when is an offer an insult?

HOWEVER, It becomes an insult when the person making the offer says, Thats as high as I can go because I can't make any money on it at the asking price

Why does that make it an insult?

I'm not being a jerk; I'm really wondering.

I don't consider that to be an insult. To me it's just an offer from someone wanting to make money off my knife. I would reply in the same way that I would to any other offer that I considered to be too low...Thanks, but no thanks.

i dont sweat low ball offers i just say "no thanks" and move on with life, life is too short to sweat small details and a low ball offer on a knife ya are selling is certainly a small detail, usually anyway lol.

I guess maybe I look at things differently when I buy something. If the asking price is already lower than what the market is currently bringing, and I buy it, then I know that possibly I could make a little coin on it if I decided not to keep it.
There is no way I could offer someone a rediculous price on their knife, especially when I know that they already have it priced reasonably to begin with, just so I could turn around and make money on it....

But then again, knives are a hobby for me, not a way to supplement my income.

My rule of thumb....

Anything between 20% below original cost and your asking price is a legitimate offer and should be kindly rejected if unacceptable.

I agree, but I don't think of such an offer as an insult, just one that I'm not going to go for. It's really not worth raising your blood pressure one point over something like that.
