When is the Mini 940 coming out ?

I don't mind coated blades per se, depending on the coating. The Cerakote the 945 has as well as the upcoming BHQ M4 940 are a no go for me. Cerakote wears very quickly on a knife blade. I do however like DLC, and my BK-2's have held up as expected. So much so I picked up a 940-2002 and threw some black G10 scales on it. I prefer the 940 series over the Bugout and my customized 940BK-2020, current year manufactures parts, and a 20CV blade, is my full time EDC now. it's basically a full sized 945.. :)

Should swap the black lock bar too.
I thought about it but decided against it. Maybe later.

I'm pretty sure it's DLC and not cerakote on the 945bk-1.

It’s more that BM seems to be basing coated vs non-coated on a color pallet and not on function. For example, nobody is buying a mini-940 for tactical use where anti-reflective blade is a requirement. Same with its additional anti-corrosive properties - is there really that demand? It’s seem almost entirely for color pallet reasons.
Whether anti-reflective/corrosive or color palette is the demand motivator, I still assume that the sales data is why they do it. Benchmade doesn’t necessarily need to know which it is to make their production decisions, either. If it didn’t sell, they’d stop/reduce production.

Nope, it's cerakote on the 945.

Thanks for the correction. I was looking at mine and it doesn't look like cerakote at all. The Bailout M4 coating looks and feels like cerakote. I just compared the 945 to a 940bk-2003 and I can see the difference now but had to look really hard. DLC shows the grain structure of the steel if you look close enough with bright lighting.

The knife is small, but thats the point will my carry when in bs cities like seattle with these brutal 3inch it less blade laws.

I think Seattle had a 3.5 inch limit for folders?

Personally, I prefer 3 inch blade because the length covers my normal uses, is easy to carry and ergonomically works well for me.

So I'm a huge "mini" knife fan and as excited as I was about this 945, after holding one in person at my LGS I think I'm going to pass. It's just a little too small I think and definitely not worth the retail price. JMHO

Plus, the LGS only had one in stock and it was a first production. The axis lock was tough as hell to engage and the action was awful.

If they bring one out that looks like the original, (green aluminum scales, purple backspacer, and standard Benchmade clip) I probably won't be able to resist.
