Is.. that possible? :p

Kitchen would be a good way to go. I believe all of what we have done so far is more related to wood work, or outdoor work. An overall knife meant for the kitchen would be a change in direction.
I'd rather not have a kitchen knife challange in W&SS... BF has a kitchen knife sub-forum.... It would get moved there, anyway.

I agree.

What about a second bushcraft knife challenge? I know we've already done one but it's the most popular and used style of knife and I believe it deserves a second go.

Since survival related products are all the rage, how about a survival knife challenge? We'd have to pick a flavor....desert survival, jungle survival, etc.

I don't think Jungle survival, since that is basically just a machete. Unless it is to compliment it. Survival would be open to all kinds of different designs, though. Would definitely be interesting, to say the least.

As for the Bushcraft knife challenge... it would cause some thought after the last one. Have to come up with a new design for a lot of the same tasks.

@Rick ... Ok, so there is a way to make a celebrity shaped knife... my bad :p

My vote is for(in order of favorites)

1. Unreasonable Beater Knife Challenge

Yep, that's about it for me.

Sounds interesting. I think if goes that route it will need more direction than that...some purpose attached to better define the scope and guide the testing requirements. Unreasonable beater...hunting knife, camp knife, urban survival knife, big old tree choppin' knife, pirates knife, wtf just have some purpose knife.

I've enjoyed all the knife challenges hosted on this forum so far. If I had to vote for the next one I'd go with:

1. Unreasonable Beater Knife Challenge.

I'm guessing this will be in the realm of big knife/sharpened pry bar? If only to see the thread showing the knives performing I'd vote for this.

Well ya.... with regard to the "Unreasonable Beater Knife" category, we could set specific tasks for a challenge right up to the downright stupid.

-fuzz sticks
-figure 4
-bowdrill set
-fire prep
-rope cutting
-batonning(sml, med, thk)
-chopping (limbing, cutting large dia log)
-prying wood apart/construction demolition
-digging
-breaking rocks, bricks, concrete
-cutting metal(cookie sheets, barrels, cardoors)
-shave Pitdog's back

You get the idea....

If you can HT a camp knife, chopper or machete, you are in the right weight category. It may get new blood to enter. We never catered the challenge to the makers capabilities before...

Nope. And if it is out of their comfort zone it will push their limits. I like it! Would definitely answer a lot of the 'indestructible' knife requests.

We can always set length limits, too. We did it with all the other challenges. You could easily make a 6-8 knife that will pummel through bricks.

I would personally like to see it with a 15"OA length max.

Rick - What you're describing sounds to me either like a large urban/wilderness survival knife, something that needs to perform well in both settings, or a Klingon bat'leth. Did you watch a Star Trek marathon recently?

no..... but I did stay at a holiday inn select.

Actually, the urban\wilderness disaster knife sounds about right.

I have to agree with this. After all this is what most of us are in this place for.....Well there are the tactical survival folk but lets face it.....they have a hard enough time surviving this time and place let alone when the SHTF! I say every maker try to make Bruce eat his own design with the next flavour of bushy awesomeness!

Besides, is there any real reason to make a sharpened crowbar other than to demonstrate that most of our renowned W&SS makers can build a Busse equivalent if they really set their mind to it? How about we inspire them to loftier goals?

I'm still down for the CAMP kitchen knife. (there's a specific point to that)

beater chopper is great, too. I'm all about the occasional "unreasonably massive KSA"

mmmmm, 5160.
