Where is Natlek?

I'm 100% with D DevinT .

He was a troll that should have been banned long before he was. The fact that he was asked to come back is yet another black eye on Shop Talk.

This is a forum about making knives ultimately. And natlek wasn't/isn't a good knifemaker.

If some of you would rather suffer an obnoxious troll and have to weed through a bunch of B.S. than have quality knifemakers stick around.......then good job. Hope you enjoy Shop Talk getting run even further into the ground.

There's a reason myself and many other good makers won't post there. Some of you guys have no clue about the absolute knifemaking LEGENDS that use to post there regularly.

But they got so sick of dealing with crap exactly like this. You all should count your blessings that Hoss even bothers to post there.....because he has zero good reasons to.
Mic drop.

No normal person would put up with someone like him in the workplace and we don’t need him here either.

They have limited some of my privileges on this thread, I can no longer push the like button for example.

This thread was moved to Feedback in the Exchange area where the "like" button is disabled for everyone but the mods - so definitely nothing personal.

I am mostly a lurker in Shop Talk so my opinion isn't much but these days we have to put up with a lot of strife in our discourse every day in just about all facets of our lives. I'm not sure why we would go about inviting it back once it has taken its leave.

My grandfather who has(had) legendary status, in Many circles once said........ "You can learn from an idiot."

Now, my grandfather wasn't a nice, kind, or nurturing sort. We didn't get along. but I wish I could of learned just a tiny amount of what he knew.......

Maybe patience is What we "could learn" from dealing with certain folks.....?
Nah....sorry, not buying this load of crap.

This is EXACTLY the attitude that drove away exceptional makers in favor of an obnoxious pest.

Your post is just a churched up "kumbaya".

Me personally, I'd rather have posts from Don Hanson, Mike Quesenberry, Devin Thomas, Bruce Bump, Nick Wheeler, Salem Straub, D. Franco, Rodrigo Sfreddo et al.

Those guys were and ARE STILL at the very top of the heap in knifemaking, just in case you've been living under a rock. They've just sailed past the riled waters of "shop talk".

But please.....do go on clamoring for the return of that idiot natlek.

I'm not clamoring for the return of Anybody......

well, I Do miss Cliff Stamp's posts. I wish HE was still with us!

What I generally think is that it's human nature to not like questioning, or people who think outside the box. Think differently.
Regardless of what It is....... "Different is dead".
Fringe members of society.
I just assumed All knife makers were fringe members of society.... I guess some of us more than Others.

I don't know Natlek. Never talked to the guy.
I just said that I enjoyed his creative problem solving solutions. He is resourceful. I admire That.

If You want to put (Me) into the TROLL category, I'm perfectly fine with That.
I have my opinions, and know they are sometimes Colorful.
I have never really fit in anywhere, so I am used to it, and it won't bother me.

Thanks.

This thread's getting downright humorous with all the vitriol. Almost as aggressive as Natlek. ;)

Yes John, I'm sorry about what's left of Shop Talk and miss all those people and more like Del Raso and Matt Gregory and many others. I was disappointed when the Best Bowie event was cancelled this past year.
I remember when Bruce Bump's Tomb Raider dagger dropped in the Customs forum. That was something! New stuff from you or Mirabile, or Lurquin, very inspirational. Now when the topic of custom knives comes up most suggestions are for cheap users that don't resonate with me.

There should be an app for dating knifemaking legends so they dont need to mix with the regular folks. 🙄

Dare I say? Sure. Why didn't people just put the one who annoyed them so much on ignore? I suspect there is more to the story as to why some left.

They did.....in a sense. They left the subforum.

There's not much more to the story.

Really, really good knifemakers (as proven by years of pictures, valuable contributions and reputations of the highest order were being argued with constantly by people who were either:

1. On their third knife build and didn't like the advice/answers they got

-OR-

2. Some anonymous person behind an internet handle with a high post count but not an image of an actual completed knife could be found.

It might hurt the feelings of some, but the fact is, a quick scroll through that subforum will reveal that far too many should have been listening/reading more and posting less.

For someone like natlek to be allowed to antagonize Devin T for far too long, unchecked and then finally banned and THEN being asked to come back because "he posts some neat out of the box machine builds" speaks volumes.

This is a thing everywhere. I'm on a firearms related forum where many of the former people who participated, (law enforcement, military as well as civilian), were at, or near the tip of the spear in terms of the shooting world, the tactical world, (real world tactical, not paintball tactical or make believe), who shared their experience with other members...whether or not they were members of those relatively rarefied communities.

As is often the case, they get driven away by folks who, (not knowing any better but thinking that they got it from reliable sources), "well, akshually" them to the point of their throwing their hands up in the air in frustration and eventually departing...leaving what looks a lot like a hollowed out movie set in their absence.

As Sartre said, "Hell is other people". Which is not to say most people suck...but that some folks should spend less time at the keyboard and learn from those who have actually been there and done that...and show proper respect.

BF is not immune, despite having some of the best members of any online community.

Don't know Natlek...but I certainly know the type.

I'll assume you were referring to my posts though you didn't have the sand to quote me....

Way to miss the point by a mile. Those guys WERE mixing in....FREELY.....by choice, sharing tons of pictures and knowledge. They weren't aloof. The ass-hatery drove them away.

You should look up some of their old posts. You might learn a thing or two.

I don't know the person in question, but I'd have to agree that inviting them back after they helped poison the well seems unwise.

I did and still do refer to those old posts regularly.

I think Natlek was mostly active after the people you were refering to were already long gone.

I am still thankful for all the experienced pro guys that decide to post in face of all the usual noise in a public internet forum, especially Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith and D DevinT who almost single-handedly keep the shop talks alive.

Anyhow, as I said one page back the thread can be closed.

If you still need to vent out about the noobs pushing the old guys out (10 years back), open a new thread.

Let's call it a day.

Happy Independence Day to all who celebrate the founding of our country.
