Where were you on 9/11/01

Hey! Are you talking about me again?? :D

I can't watch the recaps, either. It's all too personal for me...and I'm reminded of it every day I go to work. I haven't even been able to share my memories in this Thread. Pretty pathetic.

Maybe after we catch those b*****ds.

I could share some, but why. They were not good ones at all. The worst part was pulling a little 2 year old girls dress and knowing she would never see 3. Rage and fury all over again.

too think that there is people that believe it was all staged and none of it really happened.:thumbdn:

And that REALLY makes me angry. :grumpy::mad:

Not that it matters. I'm still going to go to work ... every day ... and do everything I can to stop them.

I was reading the morning paper and got a call from a friend about it. Turned on the Tube and they still didn't know what was going on. As they were starting to figure it out the second plane it. When the first building fell it seemed like I was in a dream just wanting to wake up. The people jumping is the one thing that sticks in my mind the most. Watched the TV for days, never felt so helpless in my life.

My Mother always talked about how she will never forget what she was doing when Pearl Harbor was hit. My father was sent to the front lines and was engaged in fierce battle for weeks before being shot. He was in the hospital for over 6 months, almost written off for dead a few times. He made it so I feal very lucky to be here. (parents met right after the war)
He took multiple hits but the only lasting injury was he could never raise his left arm.

When I was a kid I never really understood why my mother could never forget that day. Since 9-11 I fully understand how she must have felt.

I didn't want to post here because I knew I would be enraged by the time I got the post made. Well now I am, Burn all the bastids!

I only know one person that has lost his life in this war, my ex wife's brother in law. So I'm not affected by it as much as alot are, but when I hear from someone that was at ground zero, the pentagon or had loved one's lost, like our BF brother Bill Norwood it usually brings a tear to my eye. I can't even imagine how they must feel.

I was home sick and had GMA on. They broke in and said that a plane had run into one of the towers. I sat down and watched the breaking story with the picture of the smoking tower on the tube. Charles Gibson was the announcer. I assumed that it had been an accident until in disbelief I saw the second plane circle around and hit the second tower. I had no clue that this was a terrorist attack but could not believe that this was a freak set of occurrences. I called my wife at work and told her to turn on the TV and watch the story. I believe that this event is as important and life changing as the attack on Pearl Harbor was to my parents. The only other occurrence that I remember that was this important was the day JFK was assassinated. Sept. 11th was the day that our world changed.

And that REALLY makes me angry. :grumpy::mad:

I've already mentioned our first 9-11 thoughts being for Byron being a Marine but the rest of that day six years ago was consumed with rage at our attackers. And being a civilian for way too long at age 50 (then) to do much about it. Thankfully some of us made better career decisions and, like Jamie here, can stay engaged in the good fight. I go to work every day as well but do my health plan management duties to buy time so I can come home and do everything possible to support those who are serving. And dream of a combination of early retirement and an opportunity to serve more directly as some of you are. So we can do everything we can to stop them...

there are many conspiracy theories floating around out there. some say the planes never actually hit the towers, and "scientific" evidence points to an implosion and the planes were cgi. unbelievable.

im also very happy you were not at the pentagon that day.

If anybody cares to listen, those planes were very real. CGI my old, hairy butt!

You can stuff your ridiculous theories....well, you know. :grumpy:

Maybe people are reading too many novels and watching too many movies. That stuff is just entertainment, people. :grumpy:

a couple years ago i think, there was a cover story in either newsweek or time about the conspiracy theories.

why anyone would want to tarnish the bravery displayed that day is beyond me and just plain disgraceful.

movies and tv largely shape people's opinions about a great many things. many people i have met and know base their perceptions of my job on what they have seen on tv. it gets a bit frustrating.

yah, I know what you mean. They do the same with me. Really, I don't even look like Newman.

The personal nature of the memories shared here are something special, another part of why this is such a great community. So, it might be better if we keep this thread on topic (where were you...) and try to avoid thread drift. there are probably other threads/forums to 'discuss' the silly alternative theories.

9.11.08...

7 years since the attacks against our Nation that took place one beautiful September morning; these events that shall never be forgotten...

To those who lost family & friends on that day... :( I am truly sorry for your loss, and hope that you will get to see justice served to every single person responsible for setting into motion the events that led to such a horrible tragedy.

I thought that instead of starting a new thread here, that maybe instead this thread DE OPPRESSO LIBER started a year ago today be bumped back to the top.

A lot of new folks have joined us here since last year...

...Where were you on 9.11.01?

Also... THANK YOU to all those who rush towards the horrors that the rest of us run away from. All you first responders are heroes and worthy of recognition every day.

We will remember always...

..."Let's roll."

jaxx, thank you for the update. otherwise i ´probably would never found this thread.

i will never forget that day. it was late afternoon over here and i went out with my dog when a good friend of mine called me and cried, a kind of hysterical, that a war was beginning...i didn´t believed his words, went back home and put on the tv. on every channel you could see what happend. and i saw it with tears in my eyes.

god bless you all my american friends.

I was on a RFA ship. Part of a fleet that was sailing through the mediterranean on our way to Oman for a month long desert exercise. We were told about it but as usual there are always rumors and people trying to play jokes on you in the military. No one believed it and we didn't see the footage until 2 days later. That footage still stuns me today.

I've since made a few trips to Ground Zero and feeling there is the same to me as places such as the Somme, the Normandy beaches and Auschwitz.

I remember like it was yesterday. I was on a big job at the Corning fiber optics plant in Wilmington N.C and my foreman called my crew and I of the iron and told us that a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Towers and another into the pentagon but all the details were unclear as to what was happening. We were all in disbeleif and couldnt beleive that something like that could happen. But it did and it can happen again so all I can say is be ready for the worst. I love this country and the people who have gave all to protect it we are forever in debt to.
GOD Bless each and every one of you and may we NEVER FORGET.

I was also working as a mason at the time in NJ. my foreman yelled at me to turn off the news station (also Howard Stern) and put on some country music. He clearly dident understant the impact of the moment. After work I worked the full day not by choice. I was driving home and I saw a spray-painted sign on a front lawn that said God bless America, it took all that I had not to burst out crying. Anyway you could see the smoke from the towers at the beach drifting in a SE direction over the atlantic for a week after the crash. I lived about 50miles south of NYC. It changed my life to say the least. I use to hate the city, now Im now one of the Finest.

Those jets were real! Try telling that cgi theorie to some of my friends who watched the 2nd jet. Not on TV, they were there! You'll definitly have your...thoughts re=arranged.

I was on the banks on the Potomac River less than 25 miles away and could see the smoke rising from the Pentagon.

It is one of the worst days that I remember.

Never felt so helpless.

Afterwards, Driving into town was incredibly painful.

I remember my dad was living with me after he was diagnosed and went thru first cancer treatments.

He woke me around 6:30am saying come look. THe biggest buck Ive ever seen was eating apples in my back yard. Well over 12 points with drop tines etc.

We later nick named him the Doomsday Buck.

Later that morning my mother called and said turn on the news. THe rest is an Unforgetable Day in our Nations History.

My best friend was in the Pentagon working as a temporary contractor on some computer systems etc when the plane hit the building less than a 100 yards from where he was sitting.

Thank God he got out safely. Maybe because it was his birthday:eek:

I couldnt imagine having that as my birthday.

I too pray for all that were affected by this Horrific event.

THe nuts that believe the govt did it should be shipped over to Iran..........
