Where were you on 9/11/01

I was in 3rd grade, It was during Religion class.
Someone form the office came in the the room crying telling Mrs.Maxfeild to turn on the TV.
I wasn't sure exactly what it all ment at the time.

Just got into work and someone came running into my office asking if I had seen what was going on. They had the TV on and we watch for the rest of the day...a very sober day indeed with a lot of prayers.

I was on my way to work in a city and the idiots at work never thought to call me and tell me that the building had been evacuated so I made my way all the way to my desk to realize what had happened.

Then, two days later I was activated and on active duty for the following two years.

I still get choked up and speachless when I see the planes crashing into the buildings and even talking about it.

Many memories came out of that day and the years that followed.

I was driving to work. My boss called me. I got to work just as the second plane hit.

the entire staff washuddled in the break room watching this small 13 inch or so tv.

I went out that day and bought a 12 gauge.

In 4th grade, noticed teachers acting all hushed and hurried.
It was a small rural Wisconsin town where the high schoolers, middle, and elementary school kids all rode together.
The high schoolers on the bus were talking about attacks on US cities, they were told by their teachers that all the major cities in the US were being invaded and attacked.
Scared me bad, but thats how much confusion there was on that day and afterwards.
When I got home my mom was there, I walked up stairs and grabbed my sak(only knife I had then) and went in the back yard to sharpen sticks thinking I was going to have to fight.
I think I thought that the world was comming to an end or something.
I remember the days afterward, the fear and sorrow.

I was about to head off to one of my college classes when I saw the news. I just sat back down and watched the tv and knew that this was one of those moments that would change the world...

I was at work working on an bid or estimate or something. I had the radio on when the news about the first plane hit the air. I opened up one of the Internet news sites. I, and everyone else in the office, was in disbelief. I do remember that the Internet was running awfully slow due to the traffic of everyone checking out the news.

I felt so vulnerable that day.

Well now I work in the building in Tampa that the confused, deranged kid flew the small plane into a couple of months after September 11. Every time that I see a plane close to downtown, the memories come back.

May we NEVER forget, and always keep our guard up against those who fear freedom that we enjoy.

Oh yeah, God Bless the troops who are putting their lives on the line so we can enjoy our FREEDOM.

I worked third shift and watched the coverage all day from the begining. I could not stop watching to sleep. When I reported to work that night, everyone was in an angry state of shock. The arrestees and inmates were even quiet. Over half of them would have joined the military to fight, if they could. I was so glad to see people set aside their differences and come together as Americans. Alot has changed in seven years. The real question is where are we now?

Like Heavy, I work around Ohare Airport for a national LTL carrier. I was dropping off air/ocean freight at a freight forwarder and watched it all unfold on their little black and white TV. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Sadness filled me watching the events.
On a different dock that day, a place where all the house trucks are driven by middle eastern men, these men were laughing while watching the news coverage of it. As a Teamster, I didn't take to kindly to that nor did the 4 other Teamster brothers on that dock. We formed a tight little circle around them and said nothing, just stared at them and kept them on edge. 5 big guys in black Teamster coats can be a little unnerving.
Word spreads fast around the forwarders in the Ohare area. To this day, those house drivers are serviced last or made to wait hours to be loaded or unloaded at the many different places in the area they go to.

Why are these people here? Someone refresh my memory.

I was installing cabinets in a 6 story building in Portland Oregon that day. I wrote my name and the date on the back of one of the cabinets. One day someone might get a surprise when they see the date.

I was in Court and while waiting was listening to it on the radio with the judge and assistant DA. After hearing about the pentagon I told the judge that he ought to close the court. He started court and 10 minutes in the clerk slipped him a note and he adjourned all cases and everyone evacuated and there were sheriffs on guard on the front steps. I went right to the elementary school where my kids were and grabbed them, 1st and 3rd grader and went home. There were police in front of the school and I saw a few other parents get their kids too. I then watched it on tv while trying to keep my kids oblivious to it. I remember the next few nights with no airplanes except a couple of military jets it was weird.

4th grade gym class a teacher ran in and said what happened and people started getting picked up from school. This was back when i lived in CT and you could sortof see the smoke from my house.

I was in a 7th grade social studies class with Ms. Cannon, the assistant principle came in, and hadher tell us what had happened. Sad day!

God Bless the USA!!!

I was driving to work when the planes hit the towers and my first thought, as was John's (RAT-30), we are at war. But in my case added, "and Byron will be right in the middle of it as a Marine infantryman". And, by God, take the fight to the enemy they did.
