Where will you be at 12:00 midnight on Dec. 31

I never ever go out on amateur night, regardless of the world coming to an end or not.

I am going to watch television to see all of the talking heads trying to make a disaster out of every little glitch. Probably be better than the 72 hour coverage of the JFK Jr. fiasco. (but never better than the OJ chase).

I will be sitting near my PC waiting to reboot and reconnect after closing down at 11:50 to avoid clock problems at rollover.....as advised by the Y2k program I ran by my system.
I will, also, be listening to my scanner to find out how the local police are coping with the revels at nearby tourist centres (including Byron Bay which already has a rep for nasty New Years Eve mob activity and is one of the first mainland areas to see the sun......a long night is expected)BTW, it is Summer vacation here and tourist centres are at peak capacity.

At around 12:15, I will log on and tell you blokes and sheilas how the first spark of Y2k affected us here in Oz....almost a day before it hits you.
I bloody hope so, anyway.
'course I might be too pissed (Oz for having excessively partaken of alcoholic beverages) and miss the entire thing.
In which case, carry on without me. And DON'T PANIC.

Just a thought..anyone have a source for LPG powered PCs ?

I THINK : THEREFORE I AM.........I think

I'll be home with my wife, some close friends and family members, maybe 6 in all. We'll have some extra water, food, firewood, ammo, batteries(break out the old tapes), beer, other drinks of choice and a good happy attitude. Anyway you look at it we'll have fun. Hopefully nothing at all happens so we can soak up the good deals this coming year!

i'll be at the same new year's party i've attended for the last few years, just a few miles from home...almost everyone who attends is in the computer networking industry, or a related field, so the conversation ought to be interesting as folks come and go according to their work schedules that night.

but the fun part will be if pagers start going off...fifty people simultaneously reaching for their belts

like many of you, i think the REAL problems will be the people, not the computers...

personally, since i'm a network manager, i can't wait till february is here--who's ever heard of "leap year terrorism"?!

Well...hopefully i'll be at a party with m'girl in one arm and holding my Sifu with the other...two best things on earth (no, that doesn't mean i'm going to be using the Sifu on her)
wink.gif
...i'll leave the worrying about the bringing in of the millenium to everyone else

"Suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping,
rapping at my chamber door." Tis only me with my Sifu, nothing more. ;)

Hopefully, at home, in bed, watching the Mall fireworks on the tube. BTW, my son, who manages computers for DeWitt Hospital at Ft. Belvoir Army Hospital in Virginia, outside DC, is on duty that night. He doesn't know whether for Y2K bug reasons or other reasons.

Spending time with a close friend that was not supposed to be here.

It will be a sober, but thankful celebration. She beat cervical cancer as well as a couple of more minor, but pesky medical problems. We both have a life back.

I will spend New Years in the hot tub with my wife a great bottle of bubbley we have been saving, with some food, and the radio, listening to the world party.I have checked several times and find all knives fully y2k ready.1999 has been a good year to me,looking forward to2000!

The only thing I expect to happen involves stupid people.

This might sound insensitive, but I can't wait to check the morgue on the 1st and see how many idiots commited suicide because they thought the world was going to end. Speaking of which, I was just thinking the other day...all the "The End is Near!!" people must be feeling pretty cheated by all the hub-bub regarding Y2K computer failures and the such, I mean, now that's all most people think about, they forgot the world was going to end

Yeah! Drop the chalupa...

I'll be spending it as I have the past few years, at home with my wife & daughter. It's not that I anticipate any notable Y2K mahem, but rather the fact that home is where we most enjoy celebrating New Year's. None of us like crowds and, as Walt & others have said, it's definitely amateur night for drinkers so you won't catch us on the roads.

I'm there with Big Tex & HSO regarding the post New Year's generator sales. We could use a new one for our camp & the last time I was through Home Depot they were stacked like cord wood.

I will be at home with my sedated dog (the fireworks and all the morons shooting guns in the air scare her). Not hoarding rations, just preparing like we would for a blizzard. There will be ammo on hand, of course.

I'll be spending the evening with my wife and kids. I'm like everyone else - when situations don't happen there's sure to be some idiot willing to create one.
Y'all have a safe and happy one.

"ALWAYS WATCH YOUR SIX"

I will be going to one of my best friends houses about 1 block north of my home. There will be 6 couples there with all the kids so no need for fireworks!
wink.gif
Will be sipping lot's of the bubbley. If things do get bad we will go home and start the generator to keep the heat going and try to go to sleep. Well stocked up on the normal supplies we use every day to weather any storm that may come. I also wouldn't consider driving on amateur nite! Have fun & stay safe! See ya all next millenium!
