Whetstone is a horrible seller and a liar:mad:

I have been dealing with a seller on ebay known as Whetstone. Horrible service:mad::thumbdn:. I ordered a Spyderco Military from him for market price. Shipping was estimated to be 7-10 days USPS. After I made my order I waited 7 days then I checked the "ask the seller a question" to see what was up with my order. I waited till the last day, day 10, and the item had not arrived. By the 14th day I contacted him and told him that if the item had not shipped that I want a refund because I was no longer happy with his services -and if it was shipped then I want a tracking number. Here is his reply:

"Greetings, Your item has already shipped out. Unfortunately, there are no track numbers on first class mail. However, this is a regularly stocked item and easily replaced. The shipping estimate you refer to is generated by ebay and does not represent a statement from us.
- whetstone"

He says that the item already shipped out:mad: -So I am then expecting it to come shortly via USPS. He does not give me a tracking number of any kind and we all know that USPS has confirmation numbers, but he points out my mistake of mentioning tracking and does not pony-up a confirmation number:mad:. Today is 19 days from the time of my order and he sends me this:

"We regret that we cannot complete this transaction. Please go to the paypal
website, into their resolution center, then onto their "report a problem"
section, and dispute this transaction for a timely return of your funds.
We apologize for any trouble this has caused."

It is now clear what a "exploitive deleted" this dealer is. He lied about shipping the item and has been holding onto nearly $100 of my money for 19 days. Why cant he refund my money? Why does he want to use the resolution center instead of refunding me my money? The resolution center says that it can take up to 45 days to resolve a dispute from the time it is started -that will make it a total of 64 days that this "exploitive deleted" has stolen my near $100. Exploitive deleted.

I contacted him and asked for him to just directly refund me my money and I am now waiting for a reply before I start the dispute process. I have never had to use the dispute process and I am not looking forward to it. It even states in the resolution center that it is easier to resolve a dispute by talking to the seller instead of using the resolution center at paypal.

What is this guy doing? Going to the race tracks? Overnight funds? Conspiracy theory? -Okay maybe not, but still Whetstone is a exploitive deleted.

Avoid this seller at all costs.

Exact same story here. I filed a resolution claim through paypal today. After waiting over two weeks for a Sage2 I contacted Whetstone and they said item was shipped should be arriving soon. 2 days later they regret to inform me they cannot complete transaction and recommend I contact Paypal. Now they are escalating the claim saying it was shipped.

Liars! Paypal says they have 10 days to produce a valid tracking number.
I'm furious to say the least.

Let me know how it turns out for you Government and do leave negative feedback on ebay.

After a resolution claim can we still leave negative feedback on ebay? If so, you can bet that I will.
I called ebay. They said you can leave negative and the seller cannot. I suggest you take action with ebay or paypal ASAP. Like myself, you've been patient enough. If there's any way I can help you I will. I saved the e-mail where Whetstone claimed they cannot complete the transaction even though they are claiming they did mail it to paypal.

I just started the dispute process. Should I try and leave feedback on ebay now? I dont want him to be able to leave negative feedback for me.

I feel like I should wait to leave feedback on ebay so that he refunds me my money sooner. I don't want to piss him off and have him take this even further. I think will wait for a response before leaving feedback on ebay.

Thanks for helping out.

I'm not sure about the timing of feedback but like I said, an ebay rep. told me the seller cannot leave negative feedback. I think it's clear they're not going to give a timely refund so it comes down to the resolution decision. Paypal told me if they had a valid tracking # they most likely would have already produced it. I offered the e-mail as evidence and Paypal said it's probably not necessary and more than likely the money would be refunded in full.
I'm sure I already P.O.'d the seller because on my resolution claim I called him dishonest. :foot:

I just realized I have been spelling liar wrong. At least I got something out of all of this:rolleyes:.

I will be leaving feedback for him soon since he is no longer responding. I probably PO'd him too by calling him a liar in my claim and explaining exactly why.

He really has no reason to be upset. He knows he's lying. I consider myself very easy to get along with. Whetstone is making no effort to be honest whatsoever.

Add one more to the list of buyers that got screwed! Waited the ten business days and got an E-mail saying that they were unable to ship the item and when I got in touch with PP to file a claim, they had said that the item had shipped. Great price on a Sage 2, but what a hassle getting this resolved. No more Ebay for me!

Yep -They just escalated the claim, stating that the item has been shipped.

This is bass aackwards.

EDIT: BTW -Here is the message I received when he escalated the claim:

"Hello 'my name,'

Whetstone has asked us to look into case #PP-XXX-XXX-XXX decide the outcome
because they said they sent the item you bought. ..."

So what was your final outcome?

Wait for PP to contact seller to obtain valid tracking #. If they can not provide it they (PP) will refund my purchase price with shipping after 10 days. As The Government said "this is bass ackwards". and these sellers are a bunch of LIARS!

So we wait. Good luck guys.

He changed his feedback to private instead of public. This means that no one can read his feedback comments from previous buyers and he can no longer sell items on ebay. I did call him both conniving and a liar in my feedback, but I have factual evidence that he is. Maybe I overstepped my bounds?

EDIT- I just contacted paypal and they have explained to me that Whetstone has no money in his paypal balance, but when he does the money will be automatically refunded. They also informed me that they would be able to pay me after two weeks if nothing comes out of whetstone and that paypal themselves will deal with him on a personal basis. Since he is no longer selling items I am doubting that he will have a positive balance.

Good luck guys. I hope that this whetstone fellow figures out his finances so that paypal does not have to pay us. At least they have our backs.

Dont let one dumb butt seller ruin it for you, it isnt ebay, its the seller. Plenty of good people to deal with on there. When stuff like this happens it can indeed be a headache but in the end you are protected if you use paypal and a credit card

I believe I have his name now, as well as his email.

After demanding that I receive my refund (without name calling -I even called him sir) and calling him out on his lack of funds, here are his responses:

"Ok, look. Would you be happy and just go away if I got your knife to you by Thursday, and you got your refund too ? You're monopolizing my time from other customers so we need to get this cleared up now."

I responded that all I want is my refund. Here is the reply:

"You'll be getting a refund through the paypal dispute process. Additionally, I'll have the knife in your hands Thursday. If that's not good enough for you, there's nothing more I can do. I suggest you hold your hat till Thursday."

I replied that I will wait until thursday before contacting him to see if his promises materialize.

If he really sends me a knife as well as a refund -I would be pleasantly surprised, but I am not going to cross my fingers.

Thoughts?

This really sucks that he's being like this and running his business in this fashion. maybe in time he will rip off and piss off too many people and be kicked to the curb by eBay. I always regardless of what item I sell from my site include shipping info and a tracking number. I ship USPS every single day and there is never an issue with getting a tracking number. communication is key in business, any business regardless if it's on the web or a real store front.

it sounds like you are doing your part and really keeping your cool.

Good luck my friend.

Keep the pressure on. When you shine light into darkness, the darkness runs and hides, for it fears the light.

Just a little factoid: you can purchase Delivery
Confirmation from the USPS for items sent 1st class.
