Whetstone on ebay

I attempted to contact Whetstone again through ebay to see if he would make any effort to avoid negative feedback. Here's the response I got:

Thank You for disputing your transaction. A full return of your funds will be fulfilled through the paypal/ebay resolution process. They have already held the funds paid for this transaction and will pass them on to you through their schedule. As to feedback, we are leaving ebay. We wanted to make sure that our customers received a return of thier funds, and unfortunately, this was the only way to achieve this.

Very interesting. It sounds like he's taken the money, spent it, and is leaving it up to paypal to cover, while slipping out the back door. I can only imagine what the actual circumstances are but I did find a website under construction called Whetstone knives. I hope it's not the same as Whetstone on ebay and if not they may want to pick a diff. name.

WOW -i did not realize what that meant until now. His statement that you posted implies that we will have to wait until the two week grace period is over for paypal to pay us with their own funds. I received a similar statement, but now I realize what he was implying. He sent that statement to me minus the last two sentences.

I might try paypal again and show them this statement -maybe we can get paid faster by paypal that way?

Here is the name that was attached to one of his emails: "Simon Vinson"

His email was: 2197timothy@inbox.com

His stated location on ebay was: Cookeville, TN, United States

He might have some knives left over that he is going to get rid of -beware of this fellow.

I would definitely do that, this indicates that he is basically trying to swindle paypal. I would imagine that paypal would take a particularly dim view of that.

My First Post.

I actually had the same experience as the person in the first post.

I came across this site on eBay while searching for a New SPYDERCO Military
via an auction. I missed out on the first auction on his site, but a few hours
later another Military was there so I put in my initial bid for what the first one
sold for.

I won the bid, on February 6th. After the non receipt of my knife
for some time. I sent a few casual emails to the seller on February 20th
he advised that the knife had been shipped.

However, on the 23rd he advised that he had canceled the transaction
and that I should go through the PayPal resolution center to get a refund.

So know I'm waiting, I've also contacted my Credit Card and they advised me
not to pay that amount on my bill.

** Note there's also something fishy with his feedbacks
** I left a negative but I don't see it. Also I only see one.

Regards (My first but a long post)

Ruger95,
Thanks for the heads-up on White Mountain Knives. That's interesting if true. I've seen them on ebay before as well. I wonder who he'll come back as. I'm sticking with sellers with lots of feedback from now on like Poor Fish or Spydie guys.

A CHANGE IN THE WATERS... Yes there has been a change in the waters for Whetstone and myself. It may have been the bitching that I put him through, but he actually made things right with me since I received the Military in the mail today. It was mailed from 12220 Parkway Centre Drive, Poway, Ca 92064. I am not saying that his service was by any means "good" but things are right now and I am satisfied to say that my dealings with him have been completed.

To recap, here is an earlier post I showed you all where he prompted himself to give me both a refund and the knife:

I believe I have his name now, as well as his email.

After demanding that I receive my refund (without name calling -I even called him sir) and calling him out on his lack of funds, here are his responses:

"Ok, look. Would you be happy and just go away if I got your knife to you by Thursday, and you got your refund too ? You're monopolizing my time from other customers so we need to get this cleared up now."

I responded that all I want is my refund. Here is the reply:

"You'll be getting a refund through the paypal dispute process. Additionally, I'll have the knife in your hands Thursday. If that's not good enough for you, there's nothing more I can do. I suggest you hold your hat till Thursday."

I replied that I will wait until thursday before contacting him to see if his promises materialize.

If he really sends me a knife as well as a refund -I would be pleasantly surprised, but I am not going to cross my fingers.

Thoughts?

Surprisingly, the knife showed up today mailed from California not Tennessee, but it was mailed to me nonetheless. The knife appears to be in new condition, but there was no plastic wrap on the knife. I looked it over well and it seems authentic to me.

Now, I am not one to rip people off and that includes paypal -especially considering how good they have been to me. Here is my latest message to Whetstone which was sent moments ago:

"Whetstone, firstly, I apologize for being so rude to you in our communications. I was convinced that you were up to no good and that you were trying to rip me off as well as Paypal. I was pleasantly surprised to see a package from you waiting at my doorstep. Clearly I was wrong with my assumptions about you. You are no where near as bad as I thought, although it may have taken a little pushing from myself, you have come through for me and I am satisfied. It has been a long wait, but at least things are right now.

Secondly, you promised me that I would be getting my refund back as well as this knife (which is in front of me as I type this). As nice as that sounds for me, I do not believe it is in your best interests or Paypal's for this to come to me. I would like you to notify Paypal that I have received my package. If necessary, I will notify them as well. I am sure they have a tab on you, and they will eventually find some way to make you pay them back -so you can cross my refund off of the list since I am happy with the product that you sent me.

Thank you for making things right sir.

Happy trails,

X: My Name"

I cant speak for the rest of you, but he turned things around for me. His service overall was horrible and I would grade him with an "F," but since I have my knife I can't complain.

It is what it is,

The Gov

Glad you got your knife Gov. It would be nice if he straightens things out with paypal as well. I'd be happier with a knife but if I get the refund I'll move on and be more scrutinizing next time.

Oh, and by the way, the funniest part about this whole thing is that I paid for another military this morning in the exchange forum. Now I am going to have two militaries; a black one and an orange one. LOL I think I'll play with them both for a while and find the best color.

The only reason you got the one from Whetstone is that you bought the other one. :p I think that's Murphy's law or something similar.

I would try contacting him again just to see what can happen. Every time he replied with circular non-sense I replied right back that he was full of it and that I wanted my refund NOW.

You could also notify paypal of what he said, since it implies he is not planning on giving any refunds, ever.

LOL -it is the fate of the militaries. They are a mysterious bunch, I am guessing Egyptian curse or Mayan calendar stuff:D. The ancient curse of twos.

I just contacted him again through ebay and advised him that I've called paypal and informed them of his e-mail correspondence and apparent attempt to take advantage of their system. If he gets the knife to me it may preserve his relationship with paypal, I don't know.

Man, why I didn't find all this info before I placed my ebay order with Mr "whet-fishy-stone"............
So, same old story now....order placed @ the end of January 2010....item never shipped...four frustrating attempts to contact the seller and find out what's going on....same "friendly" advice to deal with paypal for refund, and of course fake apologies from this con artist.
Now, did anyone here got a refund from paypal yet?

No paypal refund yet.

No refund as yet, nor responses to my emails. I also made a huge mistake of biding and winning on another bid. I did this once he emailed that my item was just mailed out. I still can't fantom what motivates this individual. I originally saw people praise him the
spyderco website forum. Overtime he has obviously changed, they in fact even mentioned him by name.

I received a notice from paypal this morning that stated my refund was still coming, then two hours later a notice that the sellers refund did not clear from the bank and that the sellers paypal account was still nil.

Whetstone has not responded to my recent email yet either. I may have to contact paypal again.

BTW -I have received a new name that was attached to the Whetstone seller from Paypal. They gave me the name "Sharon Vetter." I have now received two names and two mailing addresses that identify with "whetstone." Whoever we are dealing with, it is getting confusing.

Whetstone is bad. As of today he(she, they) has 24 negative feedbacks within last month. One of the is mine. :(
It looks like something went wrong. I bought from this seller in the beginning of February. His feedback was almost perfect, something like 99.6% (one negative over four hundred transactions) and now 93.8% :(

My husband bought the spyderco military from whetstone early feb and we did not receive or receive our refund yet as of 03/05/2010. I opened a paypal claim and they will refund us in full since they have not responded to the dispute on march 8th. We filed the claim on feb 25th after we sent 3 emails and once again no response. This is ridiculous. My husband has bought many knives on ebay like benchmade and spyderco, & among others. But this has been horrible. We have been out 109.00 with no response and no knife. We became scared when their feedback went to 26 negative in the last 30 days, so we know we are not the only ones. Just felt we would share our experience. If anyone knows their phone number or a way of contacting this company please let us know! Thanks for your time rachel

Maybe a favorable end to this received notice that PP has ruled in my favor and they will be posting a refund in the next 5 days. We will see and hope. Whet stone was/is a piece of work though to keep on selling without having product.
