oohh.. i just love these threads...:D excellant choices so far folks.... hhhmmm let me see.. what would i take..

-RAT Izula
-Charlieridge bushcrafter
- and a Gransfors and Bruhks axe

Good heavens, what a difficult question. I have a hard enough time limiting myself to 3 knives in a day, much less for a lifetime. If pressed, I guess my answer would be:

Busse FBMLE
BRKT Bravo 1
Small Sebenza

The mid-sized knife is by far the most difficult to choose. I'm still looking for the "perfect knife" in that size range. The Bravo 1 is good, but I'm still looking.

Here's my three...
1. My own Laconico orange fixed blade for outdoors
2. ZT 0301 for EDC
3. SAK Huntsman because it does everything

I'm kinda pinching this question from another forum but if you could only choose 3 knives that you had to use for the rest of your life which would they be ?

This would be a very hard choice for me, but after thinking about for a while I would choose these three.

Bark River KSF Custom Bowie (50-100B).

Jim Stewart Custom (S30V).

Bob Dozier Custom Folder (D2).

All bullet proof knives that have always done what I asked of them.

"If you're not living on the edge, …you're taking up too much space."

Big Mike

Busse Game Warden (Black Tie, cuz it's thin)
Busse Badger Attack TAC (Stripped, convexed and thin slabs)
Busse Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress (Stripped with mag canvas micarta slabs)

An axe
J.P. Peltonen's M95 Sissipuukko
Buck 110

Or if an axe is not considered a knife,I would like to add a Case Trapper :)

Actually, the Machax, which is a recurve, works very well as a draw knife.

Doc

Edited to add: I was thinking of this in terms of bow making - it wouldn't work as well on wider material.

DocCanada: Every time your post you Machax I drool and kick myself for not getting one when I had the chance. I had an old khukri I picked up overseas and didn't see a need for another chopper in that size range at the time.

I have a Kershaw Outcast that Siguy did an amazing job of thinning and convexing and it works beautifully now, but still not great as a draw knife for wider materials, as you said. To me the Machax would be perfect if it was straight at the base. That's why a BRKT Golok is on top of my list. I think it'll be perfect for my needs (until something newer and shinier comes out!).

OK after much deliberation, the 3 knives I would have for the rest of my life (this means if it breaks I get a new one right!!)

Of course the knife I made for my wedding (my favorite neck knife right now):

Then for a chopper I have to give the nod to my kukri as I have the most experience with it:

My last choice is a folder as it is the easiest to carry and is usually with me, but I'd have to choose between 3 of them:
Damascus Case Stockman- pretty and cuts very well:

Elishwitz folder- very solid, comfortable, nice looking and very practical blade shape:

And Lastly the SRT made BUSSTR, this has been fighting the Elishwitz for pocket time- 2 different beasts but this guy has such a thin blade, and is basically a folding Skookum (plus it is red!):

Most likely the BUSSTR though.

For my large knife it would be my Swamprat Chopweiler, although it's a close call with my Tracker......

My Mid knife would be either my JK Hiker or my Ratmandu.....

And my 3rd would be my Swiss Spirit.....

First of all, it's almost sacreligious to suggest only owning three knives!

Having said that, I'm racking my brains to design and build those three knives. Y'all's comments are inspiring. :)

From what is currently in my collection I will go with the following.

Large- Gossman Tusker, I love the feel and balance of the blade

Medium- Koster Bushcrafter or my BRKT Aurora this is almost to close to call

Small- I will go with a OHT for a folder or an Izula for fixed blade.

I like the idea of options, so I would go with

Big: Becker BK1 or Kershaw Outcast
Medium: Becker BK10 or RAT RC4
EDC: Benchmade Griptillian or Gerber Legend 800

I have my eye on a Vic Swisstool that could replace the Gerber.

Fun thread guys and some awesome pics!

From my current collection it would be:

Large - HI M43 or HI 16.5" WWII
Medium - Spyderco Rock Salt or HI 13.5" Katunje Special
Small - Spyderco BG-42 Military or RC-3

Tough choice any way you slice it.:p
