Which animal species do you fear the attack of most? Why?

for all of you shark lovers out there :D

A friend took this from a small research boat. A blue shark, or "blue dog." Probably one of the sleekest most beautiful fish in the sea. He said it was around 8 feet long. it's my avatar right now...

edited to stay on topic- if i feared anything it would probably be microbes, parasites, bacteria, viruses etc... the microscopic things that you can't see and don't really have a fighting chance to avoid...

Skunk!!! I would much rather have a fight to the death with a bear or cougar than have to smell like **** for a month.

Candiru

Physical description

Candirus are small fish. Adults can grow to around 15 cm with a rather small head and a belly that can appear distended, especially after a large blood meal. The body is translucent making it quite difficult to spot in the turbid waters of its home. There are short sensory barbels around the head, together with short, backward pointing spines on the gill covers

Attacks on people

Although lurid anecdotes of attacks on humans abound, there is only one documented case of a candiru entering a human orifice. In this instance, the victim had a candiru swim into his urethra as he urinated while thigh-deep in a river.Jeremy Wade, a British biologist, investigated this incident for the Animal Planet's River Monsters. The victim underwent a two-hour urological surgery to remove the candiru. Dr. D. Scott Smith, Chief of Infectious Diseases at Kaiser Permanente, described the candiru as having spikes to assist it clinging to its host

Need i say more.

bees/wasps/hornets/etc...

I have an aversion to them that borders on a phobia. I have faced possible attack from various animalia in my short time, but nothing frightens me as much as a swarm of yellow stinging things.

or a feral cat with rabies. (anything with rabies for that matter)

I work with all kinds of big snakes, spiders, lizzards, and the thing that bothers me the most are hamsters lol. hermit craps also creep me out:(

Being an urban sort of fellow, I scoff at the prospect of most animal attacks.
Bears...Piffle. Mountain lion...Likewise. Shark...I don't go into bodies of water unbounded by plastic. (and heated to shark-uncomfortable levels)
I have no fear of snakes, being an amateur herpetologist of old. I leave 'em alone, and they likewise.
Two urban beasties are easily the most dangerous.
Dogs. I've handled many dog bites in my career; many unprovoked.
Stinging insects. We have plenty here in Missouri. Wasps, hornets, bees...As well as various nasty spider species. We even have a native tarantula.

Cougar for me because we have them around here and like mentioned before they stalk you then lunge for your head/neck area for the kill and 9 times out of 10 you wont even know what happened. Black bears don't really mess with you as long as you don't mess with them or especially their cubs.

That would be the English Springer Spaniel

While some of the beasts mentioned in this thread will take your life all at once, an English Springer Spaniel steals it ten or fifteen minutes at a time.

The attack often begins by just placing the Spaniel's head on your lap and giving you those sad eyes... the, "If only you would pet me, my life would be complete," look. Resist. Don't give in. If you do, then ten or fifteen minutes of your life will be gone. And that may not seem like much, but the cunning Spaniel will repeat this attack fifteen or twenty times per day until you entire life is consumed.

And, while some of the beasts mentioned previously in this thread will steal you life, the Spaniel will steal your heart.

Normally I would say sharks but I don't know if that would be the wisest thing to fear. Most shark attacks are a single bite. The shark tastes the human and realizes that it is not the desired food and lets them go. Sometimes they leave and come back to finish the job but I think you have a better chance of surviving since sharks don't usually want to actually eat people. Im sure their teeth do more damage than any other animal though.

I might have to go for a land animal. Maybe a grizzly, it would just be biting away at you. At least some large moose would probably knock you out rather than just biting you.

Chimp sounds scarry but I think the liklihood is not that great. Whats so bad about them though? I know they are strong and everything and they could climb up after you but I would think they would be vulnerable in similar ways as humans. Punch them in the head etc. Especially if you had a knife.

Maybe a hippo. Those teeth are huge and could go right through you. You would be jerked around back and forth coughing for air. And they still come from the water like sharks.

Cougar. Bears don't stalk you, and they atleast square off before they attack. Cougars, though definatley more rare, were relatively common where I grew up, and seeing warning signs posted on trails was pretty normal. Always stop and check behind you from time to time when hiking. Cats don't like it when their prey is aware of them.

I believe you but I did read that once in a while younger inexperienced bears do stalk humans and if they do it means they intend to attack. The advice given in that situation is to take the offensive because you do not want to behave like prey. If I am unarmed that may prove a bit difficult. This advice was given by a maker of bear spray who himself was mauled by a bear and saved by spraying it with his mace.

Back on topic. I don't fancy getting ripped apart limb by limb and my genitalia torn off by a crazed chimp but after seeing the movie anaconda and reading it's informative words about how they regurgitate their first meal to empty their stomach so they can enjoy constricting and swallowing another prey I am not so sure. They grow up to 40 feet long and unlike most animals are not picky about eating humans.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well it seems after doing a quick google search the movies description of anacondas and what is known in real life about anacondas is quite different they typically grow up to about 17 feet and humans are not on the menu they like to eat aquatic creatures. They are also shy recluses.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are there any tips on how avoid being their next meal if you are in the jungle. Is there any easy way to kill or repulse them?

-----------------------------------------------------------

My quick google search reveals they are probably unable to eat humans oh what a relief. What a bunch of BS that movie is.

Thank you dttomcat for the heads up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have also read cats (such as cougars) are super dangerous expert stalkers that are rarely spotted by the untrained before it is too late. I am not sure if this is a positive note but they know how to kill you quite quickly.

Anaconda don't get that big. If I may, and this is from memory, the longest length recorded for any snake is 32 feet 11 and 3/4 inches for a reticulated python. Anaconda is the heaviest snake.

ETA: It turns out, Collosus, that was her name, was only ~28.5 feet in length. Female retic. Tall tales of 40+ foot long snakes have never been proven. If we're talking South America, the Jaguar makes me nervous.
