Which factory folder were you most disappointed with?

I agree with some of the companies & knives already listed but because I spent so much and expected so much, my pick is the CRK Sebenza large 21. Handle too small with bad ergos for my hand. :(

Mine was also my large 21. Brand new from the box the stop pin screw fell out after opening and closing the knife no more than 10 times. The pivot screw was also loose where I could rotate it with my finger tip. After tighening and loosening several times I could not find a balance. It was either to tight and hard to open or loose screws. The slightest adjustments only gave me those to results. The only way I could get it to function smoothly was to put blue lock tight on the screws and leave them loose enough where I could still rotate them with my finger tip. After 2 weeks the lock up was about 95%? The lock bar was about the width of the knife's washer from touching the other scale. I kept it for 2 months then traded. I really did like it and I know I could have sent it in but I was disappointed and did not want to deal with it anymore.

The Spyderco Para-Military.

I love the Spyderco Military, but it is a rather large folder and I'm not overly fond of liner-locks either.
So the notion of a slightly smaller Military, with Spyderco's Compression-lock seemed to be the perfect solution.

Until I actually got one in my hands.:(

It felt horrible in my grip.
Whereas the Military was perfect, albeit a bit too large, the Para-Military was just completely wrong in my hands.

Otherwise, it was a very nice knife.

Benchmade Torrent.

Hooboy...did I ever want to like that knife, out of this world blade shape, fantastic scales/design--hell it even had a stainless backspacer/glassbreaker!

The assisted opening of that knife just ruined it for me. I even tracked down a few at other shops, went through some of the extra stock they had, but that AO was a complete bummer.

If I could've opened the damned thing without feeling like I was gonna slice off a piece of my thumb every time it wouldn've been a fantastic EDC. Every other aspect of the knife was fantastic.

Heck, I'm a Benchmade fan--not everything, but I like plenty of them, past and present. Guess nobody bats a thousand...

Best,

Heekma

CRKT m16 -10kz EDC. It's in the for sale section for 10 bucks. The liner lock is super hard to disengage, and the pivot tension/liner lock bar tension is very weird.

It also happens to be the folder I am most impressed with, because it sharpens up super easy, and I have batoned wood with it and it refuses to die. I still hate it though.

This is the worst knife ever made and the only one I ever returned despite the fact that it only cost 20 bucks

Case Autumn bone large stockman. CV, purchased about 6 yers ago.

Jigging ran off the bone and into the bolsters on each side, lots of daylight between the scales and the frame. A reject or maybe a poor second at best in anyones book.

$65 IIRC from Case.

Returned to Case, told me it was "within Spec".

Fine by me, fool me once and all that!

If that's their acceptable spec it's their problem, doesn't meet mine, haven't bought a Case since ... nor will I.:thumbdn:

Ever!

That $65 came hard at the time.:grumpy:

Leaves more Case knives for the collectors looking for 'pretty' knives to put in their display case.

Both scales fell off within a year of edc pocket carry.

Good thing I kept my old U.S made Schrade 80T, it's still going strong.:thumbup::thumbup:

Regards,
:) ...

The nitrous assit was slow for a blade of that size too. Mine was in the return mail the next day! A pretty looking POS IMO. :thumbdn:

Spyderco Endura , the nylon pocket clip broke.

You do know that you can send it back to Spyderco and they will cut off the hump and mount a metal clip for you? FRN clip failures are the reason that Enduras and Delicas stopped being made with molded FRN clips a long time ago.

Too late as it was sold.

kulgera, not that it isnt nice, but i don't love it as much as I thought it would.

The spec-bump from Kershaw is probably my least liked knife when adjusted for quality. I mean its made well with good materials, but I have no desire to touch that thing.

My bm vex is pretty low end, but I spent like nothing on it so I don't include that.

By far, Spyderco Walker (the recent ZDP-189 version). Extremly lopsided primary grind and inconsistent lockup. Subsequent experience with the company was also pretty much disillusion.

Well, do yourself a favor and try it out thoroughly. It is surprisingly good, despite being bit inconvenient to sharpen due to wild recurve.

  • Kershaw Vapor - Junk
  • Cold Steel Ti-Lite (Titanium) - Garbage for $100 plus
  • Cold Steel Nightshade Boot Dagger - not really a knife - just something to get you in trouble
  • Kershaw Chive - wouldn't hold an edge
  • Buck Pilot - pretty much the equivalent of a vapor

Anything Boker Plus. Love CLB designs he just needs someone better to produce them especially the karambit. After 4 semi hard wave type deployments the knife developed extreme blade play and I could not fix it so much that it rattled when fully opened. Just junk...
Buck Strider. Big beefy folder with junk linerlock

Maybe you got a dud? I been wave opening my give away knife more than 10 times with no problems.

I would like to think that, but I've had other Boker Plus products that have been junk as well. I have an Armed Forces Tanto that I wanted to change the pocket clip from tip down to tip up since it has all four options. When I went to unscrew them, they had some kind of crazy locktite or something that made them IMPOSSIBLE to remove, not to mention the cheap screws striped so I had to dremel them off and get new screws, other than that the knife is ok. But you get what you pay for with these, the sad part is I have tortured $4 Mtech knives that held up better..
