Which knife got you hooked?

When I was a kid, a swiss army WOWed me so much I HAD to have one. Always had some sort of a knife since then. A PM2 got me "hooked" 2 years ago.

What got me hooked? I have no idea but I have owned and used knives since I was 7 years old. I was "hooked" because my Dad always carried a pocket knife and I saw the usefulness of one in my everyday life.

I stated buying a lot more knives once I joined BF in 2005. First it was SOGs and I honestly liked them a lot and own more than a couple. Even with owning and using other brands more since, I still like the Mini-Vulcan and Access Card 2.0. I have since moved to what I consider better knives with customs, better traditionals, and moderns. Prior to 2005, I pretty much had one pocket knife (a traditional folder of some kind like a Trapper pattern or a SAK), but I did buy some Randalls before 2005 also and really like them.

My first Vic SAK (a Tinker) hooked me on the overall usefulness of this kind of knife which I considered a knife for children prior to owning one.

This Randall #1-7 started it all. It has been quite a ride since. I long for it for more than 7 yrs before I pulled the trigger. I could have ordered it directly from the shop as the shop wait list "is only 5 yrs" :D

Might have been the Buck 110 I had as a kid, or perhaps the custom puukko a relative made for me when I visited Finland. I still have both, many decades (and knives) later.

Yeah, a Case Barlow was my go to knife for at least 10 years after my hands were large enough to use one safely. It did everything I needed done.... general cutting, cutting weinie sticks, carving my initials (OMG, yes I did that as a kid), field dressing and skinning game. Pretty much everything that needed done for a country boy.

For me, the one that really got me started was the old Kershaw ATS-34 G-10 Wild Wild Turkey. I had always been interested in knives, but this is the one that started my obsession.

My wife bought me a Byrd Wings for our first Xmas as a married couple. I received the Spyderco catalog with it and then took a turn for the worse. I then bought a Spyderco Military which was my first real user and then joined BF. From that point, I've gotten nothing but knives for Birthdays, Christmas', and now Father's day. I believe if my wife knew what she was getting into she may have gave my marriage proposal more thought. :o

5 years old I recieved a Barlow from my dad. On my 7th birthday my mom and dad bought me a marlin papoose and a box of ammo. Times have changed.

Wow, quite a story! Nothing like saving your life to win you over.
The Camp Tramp was exactly the kind of knife I was looking for when I first got here. Between that story and a review from the infamous Cliff Stamp, I was hooked. A lot of knives have kept me here since then and my taste in knives has changed quite a bit over time, but that's the knife that really started it all for me. From the day I first received it until today, it maintains the most important spot in my entire knife collection . . . my BOB.

Times haven't changed that much other than parents seem to be far more protective of their children. The Case Barlow was my favorite knife once I saved up enough money for one (about $20 then) at about age 10. The 22 rifle followed....

This is true for me, too. I never realized how big a world there was in knives for so many specialized purposes. Did not think I'd wake up to consider what I am doing each day in order to select the best-suited carry for the day.

A 2 1/2" bladed lockback with brass bolsters and rosewood (or something) scales. Never knew who made it. A friend had a similar one with the words Lil'Critter and Japanese Steel on the blade ... hasn't helped in trying to find who made it. This is in the very early 1980s :)

I see I'm a lot like others who have posted here, I used to carry cheep crappy knives (simply because I didn't know better) I still see myself as a novice in the modern folder knife world. I carried a Colt Ridge Runner for a while but HATED the crappy handles. Then I started looking at knives reviews on youtube and bought my Cold Steel Lawman. What a difference!! G10 handles, great ergo, heavy duty blade shape. I was hooked! I still love my Lawman.

Can't remember, I was so young when I started wanting pocket knives. Got a Cub Scouts BSA model when I was 8 or 9. I think it had blue fake jigged bone and the Cub Scout or Webelos emblem on it.

I have carried a knife on me since I was about 10. If one got lost or broken I would just go to the mall ninja store (Remington in my case) and buy whatever struck my fancy for under $40, and that would be it. Then they closed the store and since there were none near me I started looking online last year to replace my lost SOG Vulcan. Been hooked ever since. I came here for the knives but stayed and joined for the people.

Swiss Army folder as a child, purchased in Geneva by an uncle. Lost on a camping trip at 13. :(

As an adult, Fallkniven F1.
