Scenario #1: SHTF & Bug out time. You take 1 knife with you. Which is it and why?
Scenario #2: SHTF bug in OR out time. You get 2 knives. Which are they and why?

You can limit this to your personal collection or use creative license here. Feel free to improvise scenarios or add more detail. For example: If ALL you were able to take aside from the clothes on your back (no survival kit) is the 1 knife, does that change your tune? Lastly, multi-tools are prohibited. No restrictions on facts or details. Take a sword if you want. No limit on length. You can substitute axes in either scenario if it suits you. What's it going to be that accompanies you into the brave new world?

I am aware there have been variations on this theme in the past, but enjoy these threads. Rather ran resurrect one, lets get funky fresh.

#1 scrapyard SOD - its a sharpened prybar
#2 18" tram and scrapyard SOD - machete...well i live in hawaii :) SOD, its a sharpened prybar.

If it were it my local woods, I would probably go for my Dozier KS-3 pro guide knife. .170 it is nice and stout for all of the purposes I use my knives for. I can prep fire, shelter, traps and hopefully food. The reason I would pick that over my Dozier wilderness is because there is plenty of firewood from wind blows and large branches.
If I were in a colder enviornment I would probably choose my gransfors sfa as I can use it for all of the above uses.
If I could choose two, I would choose those two.

I guess from what I already own I would take these two: Swamp Rat Rodent Waki, and my Fallkniven Thor...

Can't help it, I just like big knives. :)

I just can't do the 'pick one' thing.
This is what is in my pack today. It might well be different tomorrow. ;)

I'm with Mannlicher...can't do just one or two:o

I'll post pictures later, but for scenario one most likely my most used fixed blade would my BRKT Bravo-1; although I recently took my new BT on a backpacking trip and it did quite well.

Scenario two wouldn't be much different but it really depends on the tasks at hand and season. I could use a small fixed blade for most tasks and maybe a large fixed blade vice my axe for most seasons here in GA.

Either scenario is tough as I almost always have a folder or two and multi-tool on the belt.

I'd go for my standard EDC knives, cause it's what i have with me anyways:
1. Leatherman Charge TI - because it offers a lot mor than just a knife
2. Sissipuukko M.07 - a nice virtually indestructible multipurpose knife, not too big for bushcraft & butchering and but nasty enough for the rest

If i could choose at home i would ad these tools, which should cover 99% of my "cutting needs".
3. Gränsfors Bruks - the big scandinavian forest axe
4. Sawvior Flding Saw
5. Crooked knife

The scenario doesn't matter to me, since i would head to a large wilderness area straight away and these are the cutting tools, which can sustain my life best...

GB mini

CS trail hawk and Koster bushcraft.

I find that for me a small hatchet is a lot more useful than a big chopper knife. Plus it's a lot more benign to the sheeple. Although it's more of a weapon in my eyes.

Not sure what I'd grab to bug out. Probably my Bravo 1.

For #2, bug in I'd have to go with what I have on me. A Mora 780 Triflex and a Vic Farmer.

Wow, the "just one" question makes my brain hurt. Bruce Culberson camp knife I suppose. 12" OAL, 5/32", drop point, good all-arounder. Still not so large that I couldn't stash it under a light jacket or vest.

Taking two still makes my brain hurt, but not as much. Going to have to go with two Bark Rivers. The Golok is an excellent chopper without being obnoxiously heavy or clumsy. The Colonial Patch knife is a nice little light duty knife. A custom kydex sheath by Kiah gives it all sorts of carry options. Together those two cover a whole bunch of ground.

Scenario #1: Himalayan Imports 20" CAK. Because it can do everything, including fell a tree, if necessary. Not great for small work, but it'll do.

Scenario #2: Busse Bushwhacker Mistress and probably a GB Scandinavian Forest Axe. The BWM is a long knife, but handles very well, making smaller work much easier than it would be with a heavier blade. The 25" Scandinavian Forest Axe is a classic small, trapper-style axe that makes long wood gathering sessions and woodworking easier than a one-handed tool.

Scrapyard SOD, Scrapyard Scrapper6, Scrapyard Scrapper5 and a riflemans hawk (or when i get a Vector hawk, one of those)

For only one?

BRKT Canadian Camp Knife.

For Two Knives?

Spyderco Temperance2 & BRKT Cumberland Trail

For the first scenario My M-43 Kukri.

For the second I'd throw in either my G.L. Drew 5" or the bowie.

But it is a moot point as I generaly always have 3 knives on me anyway.
