Which Knife(s) Do We Takes With Us My Precious?

For only one knife (yeah, like that would ever happen) it would be my Becker BK-2.

For two knives, it would be the BK-2 and my Vic Farmer. Those are the two I use most anyway, so I know I'd take them along.

Now, if we were allowed three chunks of steel, I'm not sure whether the third one would be my Silky saw or bolo machete. Oh, what the heck... might as well take all four.

Man I love/hate these threads. I'm choosing from my own collection as wishful thinking about knife choice just adds to my choice dilemma. Not my pics though, my blades are far from this clean and shiny.

Scenario 1: My thoughts are, would I need it to purely survive or will it become a tool for defending myself/scaring others away?

If it's just survival and even if it's for a bit of self defense then i'm going with either my Bark River STS-5. Stout as hell, sharp as a razor, can do any task i've set it, has my full confidence in it's workmanship and durability:

or

my Busse SAR8. Same as the Barkie but a bit longer making chopping easier and the handle is a bit bigger so I can use it even wearing thick gloves which may be needed depending on where i'm planning on surviving:

If I also need to intimidate then I'd have to change my choice and go with my Busse CGFBM. Good at many tasks, not too heavy, should scare most potential attackers off (not zombies of course):

Scenario 2: I take the STS-5 and CGFBM, job done.

I do have and use axes and saws but for me they are not versatile enough. Saws also have more of a tendency to break, axes too although sometimes that is down to user fault (me :foot:).

one knife, buggin out - ECO Hawk. it's super small and compact and can be hideden in my sock if i have to. it also throws extremely well and is a force multiplier as a hawk/reaper.

two knives, bugging in or out - probably a good long machete and and ECO Hawk.

some of the Busse swords are pretty excellent too - if it was looking like i was going to be seeing a lot of combat, i'd definitely consider one of those and a knife in the Bowie to Ka-Bar range.

I've spent all my life walking-to and from the grocery store, to and from school, to and from the laundromat, with my posessions on my back. I can ruck rediculous ammounts of weight. One of the benefits of all of this sweat, pain, blood, ruined socks and shreded shoes is that I can comfortably carry more than one knife. All of these which one knife forums are in vein effort to find the perfect knife, which, to be honest, there isn't one. The perfect knife is one that cuts in the situation you need it to. If Air Force SERE specialists can spend their lives living on the edge with no more than a Cold Steel axe and a POS Ontario pilot survival knife, we should at least be able to do the same with a 200 dollar bushcrafting knife. You can't buy the ability to cut. Maintenance and knowledge of the usage of your tool can turn a rock into a priceless cutting tool.

Don't really get the question, why would I not use the same knives I use any other time?

Schrade13OT, Spyderco Military

One knife scenario,my RC6,fits my hand well and can handle most chores with ease.A 2 knifer theme,my Battle Rat and my Vic Farmer. With those two I could handle almost any knife situation.I like the Battle Rat because it's really lively for a big blade.

Dont have it yet but I just commissioned a custom spec M4 Ranger from Dan over at Relentless knives. It will be my new do it all blade. I had to save up for a while to make it happen but I am really excited. Hand forged S30v , all the treatment options, no false edge, extended blade length. Im super stoked to take delivery sometime in may if things go well.

Mine will be more like the one on the right.

Second knife, man I dont know. I just bought a necker, and a couple more light duty customs. Whatever else was close by I guess.

a 12-15" Kukri (cheating I know, it comes with those little knives in the sheath)
ditto on Kukri coupled with a full size axe
Imho if I could get "deep" enough, I could build or tear down just about anything with that combo!

Oh crap, I forgot about the BK2!!!

This isn't an exercise in finding the perfect knife. It's just some folks talking about what knives they love and would like to take with them if they knew they might be the last knives they would handle. We are on a knife forum. Bullshitting 'bout knives is essentially our entire pass-time here :D

Personally, I'll take an NMFBM in scenario #1 and #2. The second knife in scenario #2 would be a SFNO or a Scrapper 5 LE. It's hard to beat that Scrapper 5 and the NMFBM speaks for itself. The scrapper is particularly awesome with those mudder handles which are amazing in cold weather.

Not to be an ass or anything, just asking a question. Is there really a purpose to the short as hell saw on the spine? Can you actually cut anything with the saw that you could not chow through with one swing? I am just curious, because it seems too short to be useful, more or less to look cool? And again, I am not trying to demean the knives, just wanting to know some thoughts. Also, with a double sharpened edge, it may not baton as easily.

#1: One of these or something similar, from Condor:

wilderness-md.jpg

#2: A Mora 2010 and a 18" to 22" machete. Probably a Codor Golok.

#1: I would grab the RC-4

#2: I would pick up the Vic Farmer (assuming that doesn't fit your definition of a multi-tool) and my Mora 510. If the Vic is nixed, it would be the RC-4 and my Uncle Henry Stockman.

You take 1 knife with you.

Ha, that's what YOU think!

The closest that I might come to that is when I grab 1 fixed blade to supplement my EDC knives - but that isn't exactly taking 1 knife with me! For that matter if I am grabbing 1 knife then I am probably grabbing several in almost the same amount of time (several knives + my EDC).

Well i guess if i had to have just one it would be the Busse skinny ash-1 that is currently in my bug out bag, Big but not to big to negate fine detail work or too thick to sharpen up well,

If i get 2 knives i guess id go with my dozier wilderness knife and a RAT Jungalas which i plan on getting when they finally come the f$%* out

# 1 BK2 - customized and with custom leather sheath

# 2 BK2 and the med EDC I bought from coolhandluke4 here on the forums with custom kydex sheath
