Which knives would you NOT sell when downsizing?

Nice collection. I'd go with:

Small Sebenza
Umfaan
TA Davidson
A2 A5
CD Neon
940-1
Hizen
Rogovets
Howser
Jason Clark

Right now it's this Reate Wave model, very nice size and just overall exudes goodness that a knife should have, I have changed the lanyard recently as these are older photos.

and currently my 'edc' knife is a bugout with Titanium scales and 20cv blade, it does about everything you'd need a knife to do.

Knives are very personable items, the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" really holds true when deciding what to keep and what to part with. To ask others to suggest for you is folly, your collection looks pretty nice and I think you probably can sort them out into two piles in a short time. That can hurt a bit, but it sounds like something you are set on doing.

Good luck with your decisions!

As others have said, it’s a very personal thing that only you can decide. Just because a knife is valuable doesn’t mean it is or will be your favorite. I have many knives, mostly all same brand, and that’s fine with me because I know what I like. Of the 15 or so knives I’ve sold I wish I had about half of them back.
Edit- be careful about selling anything rare & discontinued, it can be tricky trying to replace them down the road if you change your mind.

Something that might help is to make a list of some you would consider getting rid of. Then go over that list again in a week or two and see if you still feel the same way.

how you chose which knives to keep
I would go strictly upon which ones you would truly miss the most , to keep .

Really , nothing else matters , in the end ...except what you really love and value for yourself . :)

I've already "downsized" once this year. Sold off about 60-70 mostly cheap Kershaws and CRKTs, which were the type of knives that I bought when I 1st started "collecting."

There are still over 340 knives in my collection and I have no plans to "downsize" any further in the immediate future BUT if I did "downsize" again" there are only around 40-50 knives that I would currently be willing to part with, which still leaves about 300. Far too many to list here.

LOL! ;)

However, if I were forced or decided to sell off my entire collection, the 3 knives that I would definitely keep would be my Buck 110, Kershaw Shallot 1840CKT and Gerber Mark I, which were knives that I purchased and cherished over 40-50 years ago; long before I even thought about becoming a knife "collector."

Keep both Mnandi, sell the rest that weren’t gifted by slide or children. . I don’t see any “ special task/ purpose knifes so don’t have that to worry about. The Mnandi may be the perfect pocket knife for older downsizing guys. So small and light but build to use and it’s still got that cool modern glider thing going for it.
I’m not just spouting here, that’s exactly what I did a year ago and it was so refreshing.
I sold over a hundred and kept my Mnandi and 5 slip joint gifts from my girls. I did the same with my flashlights but have bought so utility lights lately…

Short version: if your knife looks new, it means you didn't use it and so it has a good resale value. Sell it.
If a knife looks used, it means it is useful. Keep using it.

Personal version:
Re-evaluating the collection is a continuous process. My needs change, my tools also. Trying to see into the future and my future needs is what determines present action. But it is important to let go of illusions. So I don't need tactical, I don't need survival etc.

I have some beaters that are mostly fixed blade. I am not selling those. Then I have users, for garden and yard work, mostly with serrated blades, in both three inch (summer) and four inch (for winter) . I am keeping those too.
Then I have a few nice three inch fixed blades and folders for urban EDC. Keeping those. Then I have a few knives that are backups of my favorite models or just too beautiful and special to part with. I have a soft spot for Ti. Then I have SAKs and multitools. Too useful to sell those.
But I still have a few knives that are just lying around, without being special or really good or that have some annoying flaw. Those are the ones I am selling.

Our tastes differ significantly.

I’d keep the 2 howser 2 blades. The rest don’t apeal to me at all. Funny how that works.

I’m sure most of my collection would not apeal to you.

But my first thought when I saw your collection was that it’s not that large. (Could easily fit in a drawer already).

Best of luck on your decision and the move.

Translation: sell them, get a Buck 110.

/jk?

Lol. I do like my 110’s but I have others. I recognize 110’s aren’t for everyone. My tastes run more to the traditional side. I’ve thought of broadening my interests but I’m happy were I am.

I in no way mean any disrespect to the OP’s tastes.

I have been doing this with my own collection recently. Pretty much sold anything that had only been carried a day or so this year. Having it and knowing I wasn't using it was just making me feel bad. I'm still going through the others but I'll probably be down to 5 knives or so in a couple of months.

I want to downsize my knife collection. Some of them are worth some $. Don't need all of 'em, don't want to worry about storing them as I move to a smaller place. I want to get rid of the clutter, so to speak. I would like to get your thoughts on which knives you might keep. I'd like to end up with no more than 10 that can easily fit within a drawer. I know this is a personal decision, but knowing this forum, I expect to get some interesting answers and perspectives!

My knives are shown below. I'd be interested in your thoughts, or how you chose which knives to keep when downsizing your own collection.

For example, I have kept the old benchmades on the left for years. Most are discontinued, seemed like they might have some value eventually. But maybe someone else might enjoy them more.

My personal list would be:
1)anthem
2)Ms3
3)lighter manandi
4)Ta davis
5)shiro CD
6)Shiro ultralight
7)crk umfaan
8)busker
9) rockstead
10) a small sabenza

When I downsize I generally base my decision on how often I carry it, ones that I don't enjoy carrying get the ax first.

But one I will never sell Is my ZT 0454, I hardly carry it, but it was my carry on my wedding.
