I would suggest a light sabre for a Jedi Knight.

A larger knife can usually perform smaller tasks...however it's more difficult for a smallish knife to perform larger tasks...with that said...RC 4 or RC5 over a RC3...

Hell, it is the SAK of Lightsabers, what more could you want?

As a knife newbie lurker, thanks for this thread discussion. I've been thinking about this same thing since picking up a BK2 for work in camp. I teach a winter ski camping/touring class for a local college in the Oregon Cascades so I need a heavy knife in camp. The RC-3 sounds like a nice complement for everything not requiring pounding a lot...

I am an avid backpacker and hiker, and seeing as you are from California, and if you do most of your backpacking there I would jsut take a RC3. If CA is anything like CO and AZ, I have done a good bit of backpacking in each, where there is a fire ban for most of the year then you will not really need to do much batoning to make firewood. I have the RC3 and plan to take it on a short weekend backpacking trip this weekend. It is all I feel I need, especially if you are looking to carry just one knife. I have done some batonning with it and it does alright, not that I would want to split a bunch with it but it works. It also excels greatly at food prep, cutting up cheese and sausage stuff like that. I absolutly love mine and it never leaves my EDC bag, except when it is on my belt.

easy there Dizman.. lol. ;)

lol. :) told you we loved it. I did vote 6 though. It's a good all around knife, and my pick if it's the only knife I carry. I generally like to take 2 (ok ok, or more), one being short like a pocket knife or rc3, and the other 10+ inches, or an axe.

The RC-5 and a normal sized folder.
Then you can use the RC-5 for heavy tasks and the folder for food prep etcetera...

I disagree on the folder for food prep ... precisely the reason why I like the Izzy so much - no important mechanical parts that get full of juices and then pocket lint and then something else and are a pita to clean.

Exactly, and IMO, The RC5 is not a backpacking knife. However, as long as people are carryin something.

Orange RC-3. Can't imagine there's anything you'll need from a knife that that one won't do. Pair it up with a SAK or multitool and you're good to go.

^ Love the lightsaber idea. There's new show coming out about scifi vs what's possible in the near future and lightsabers apparently might not be impossible.

I've had the orange RC-3 and other orange G10 knives. I'm done with orange G10. I'm getting the micarta with the green liners no matter what model. The thing I think I like most about the RC-4 is the kydex sheath. Maybe I can get one made for a RC-3 because that's the direction I'm leaning, mostly becuase of the thinner blade. So few knives of this type have a thin blade.

I briefly had both the RC-3 and RC-4 and didn't really use them but I liked the RC-3 more just handling them. The RC-4 was heavy and chunky, which was cool at first, but tiresome later. I was just wanting to give it another chance.

The RC-6 I think I'll get just to have. I don't have a big knife anymore, and it's a LOT more affordable than my former ASH-1 LE.

Thanks for all the input guys and gals!

In an urban situation, Izula, it is legal carry in A LOT of states.

Deep woods, I would go RC-6, it can pretty much do it all.

I have an acquaintance that has a small shop and he does a lot of R&D for government and other projects. Some of the stuff they are working with would make Luke Skywalker say "I want one of those!"
