Has a longer blade and saw (the longer saws are better, IMO.

If you decide you want scissors, the Outrider adds them and a phillips head to the Rucksack.

I have a Rucksack with a File, but you don't need a file.

I have a One Hand Trekker, which I quite like.

And I have a Swiss Tool, which I quite like, though it is heavy.

I want a Swiss Tool Spirit.

I always have a difficult time choosing but always carry a Midnite MiniChamp with my keys and usually a Huntsman in my pocket or in my EDC bag. I love the Farmers but miss the big scissors.
Here's my current collection of Wengers and Vics:

EDIT: Forgot to add that I asked Scibeer to build me an HAIII scaled Farmer with the scissors and pocket clip but find it a tad heavy for pocket carry...that and I find it too pretty to use! LOL

IMO ya can't beat the Vic Swiss Spirit....they are just a top quality product !

The Victorinox SwissTool is the best multi-tool on the market, in my opinion. It's got it all, and a real pair of pliers. I have a SwissTool in my car, and I carry a Victorinox Spirit everywhere I go.

I want to pick up a multi tool, but I'm wondering whether I should get the SwissTool or a Leatherman Surge. Any thoughts from those of you who have used both?

There is no competition when it comes to fit and finish. Victorinox is the finest available.

OKG, I've been a huge fan of the Wave since it came out and one resides in my short term and long term wilderness bags. But I also carry pruners with me for cutting willow for traps/snares and making crawdad traps, tent stakes, etc. So recently I've ditched the pruners and have gone with the Visa Hunting Multi Tool for my bag since it has the pruners along with some additional muliti tool features. I use pruners in the wild almost as much as I do my knife and ax. I could almost convince myself (almost) to leave the Wave behind and just go with the Visa.

Electrician Plus. Its a Farmer with a small sheepfoot blade instead of the can opener.--KV

+1 on the huntsman. I like the selection of tools on it. I really like having scissors and a saw. I have the Spartan, Explorer, Huntsman and Supertinker (bought 3 Supertinkers, they were such a good deal).

Lately, I have been eyeballing the Swisstool X - this one replaces one of the blades with pair of scissors, the reason I am choosing it over the Spirit, it has a plaing adge blade, not the combination edge. Maybe I'll order today!

thats a shame, if you would like, I can take it off your hands to alleviate the guilt of not using such an amazing tool.

:D

OKG, I just don't think the multi-tools are as good when used as a knife. The SAK's are a knife with tools, and the Leatherman's, etc, are a tool with a knife... That's just my opinion, but the thin flat blade of a SAK rocks.

The Hunter or Rucksak are nice, and the Farmer is one of the best.

The right answer, of course, is get one of each.

I EDC a Farmer. The only downside is a lack of scissors for daily use, so I carry a smaller one like a Classic or one that I can't find a model name for so I have them as well...

I got thinking about it, and I decided I would throw an image in....

I stress the springs, and was every moment anticipating near certain laceration, but here it is.....

I have a sak tinker, hiker and craftsman. For multi tools I own the leatherman wave and charge and two victorinox spirits the one with the serrated blade and the one with the regular spear point blade. At work I pair my tinker with the spirit x tool (spear point blade). At home/edc If I choose to carry a sak I pick the hiker because it is only three layers thick and has a saw. I don't use the craftsman because it's pretty heavy and bulky (6 layers thick) imo your better off with a multi tool strapped to your belt. Out of my multi tools I like the swiss tool spirit x (spear point blade) the fit and finish and overall engineering beats the leatherman tools hands down, and this is coming from someone who swore by the leather man tools for years until i recently bought my victorinox multi tools.

P.S. I don't use the victorinox multi tool that has the serrated blade. The reason I don't use it is because of the serrated blade itself, 1.) it has no point 2.) it is chisel ground 3.) it is a pain (for me) to maintain it's sharpness in the field.

How about the Leatherman Wave? Do you guys see that as a superior tool to the SAK? obviously the leatherman has the pliers and is a different format. It isn't made for pocket carry. Outside of the pliers how would you rate the leatherman vs. a SAK for everyday uses?

I own a Wave and a Farmer. The Wave is definitely the most versatile no question and as an added benefit, you'll keep your money in state. The Farmer however is what I edc and I haven't used the Wave since I bought it about a month ago. The reason; at half the size and less than half the weight, the Farmer just carries better than the Wave in the pocket. OF course my best bud edc's the wave every day so it depends on your preference. However, if you're thinking about the huge Vic models, I'd say to just buy the Wave instead. You're going to use a set of pliers a lot more than you would a magnifying glass or a parcel hook.

Edited to add that the saws on both models are excellent.
