Which sharpening system for INFI blades?

I just looked at my box and there is no model number at all. Maybe because they were taken to sell at Blade. Closest thing to what I have is the Pro pack 1. Only mine did not have the base, made my own out of 2 12 x 12 3/4 in thick oak boards. and I bought the strops.

I just posted before I saw this. I only have 260.00 in the system and I think 50.00 in the strops. The wet dry paper I use is 4 bucks in a variety pack from wal mart. I can get several sharpenings out of the paper before replacing. Matter of fact I just bought my second pack. Here is my first attempt on a Busse, it surprised me how easy it was and how well it came out.

Right there, that is what I want to be able to do at some point... that's it right there! Makes me bleed just looking at it!

Thank you sir! I'm going to take a look at the Pro pack 1. I just hope its not to expensive

Looked on their website. Closest one I can find to the one I got is the we100. Only difference is mine came with the 800-1000 grit stones. Maybe they came with them then or it might have been a special deal for the show. I am i bit surprised how much the have gone up. The pro pack 1 does seem to be a really good deal. If I had it to do over I would have bought a base. Built mine for free but it turned out to be harder than I thought.

This thing is why I said in the other thread that I do not worry about edges anymore as factory edges just don't compare. Look up some youtube vids on them, one of them say that when you get to the 400 grit the edge is already as sharp as factory edges,I tend to agree for the most part. Here is a BM Grip I just got. The edge was OK and kind of toothy. All I did was run 1500,2000,2500 and strops on the original angle. Laser sharp just from smoothing and polish.

I just got a set of DMT diasharp 8x3, from extra coarse to extra extra fine

I'm using the dmt aligner clamp to use the new stone

for comparison, under them is what i had before, the lansky was WAY before the dmt

trying the clamp with a kitchen knife, this is about 20 degree

Which of the 2 accomodates larger blades? Im trying to narrow down my options. Thanks again for all the help.
I will look when I get home. I didn’t realize there were multiple Field and Sport models.
The largest blade I have done on it so far is my DTBM.

I'll echo what a number of people have said already: the Wicked Edge is excellent for v-edge sharpening and refining, but not ideal for Busse's full zero convex edges. I'm using a WE Gen 2 Pro, which is a nicely self-contained and easy to adjust setup. The super long guide rods and wider jaws are both a must for larger blades like a CGFBM.

Then again, the WE does work well if all you're doing is stropping a convex edge. Diamond lapping film on a balsa WE strop is awesome. But if you need to really sharpen a convex edge, I'd strongly suggest steeling followed by some variation of 'sandpaper on mousepad' rather than trying to use the WE to 'blend' a convex edge from a series of angled passes with the actual WE diamond stones.

I have a Worksharp for convex edges. The WE does do great stropping them.

You will find all this out if you watch a bunch of the WE youtube vids but I forgot to say for best results when you go to the strops move the angle in one degree on each side.

I also have the wicked edge and have had great results with it. I got a great deal on it on the exchange. They come up for sale now and again. Most of my knives I'll sharpen at 20dps so I can touch them up on the sharpmaker. I have the strops for the wicked edge but prefer to strop by hand, I just find it less cumbersome. For quick touch-ups I find my kitchen knife steel works best.

I think that the WE will find it's way to me. The hive has spoken and this seems like the best deal for me. I've spent the past few hours looking at YouTube videos, and this here is the one for me. I believe im going to go with the WE120, and just add as I see fit. Do you guys know if they ever go on sale, or is this price etched in stone?

Which model WE do you own? Thanks for the response.
Wicked Edge Pro, but mine is a 1st Gen.

The other item you need is an angle guide. Since blades are different thicknesses, when you clamp them in, the angle guides are not going to be the true sharpening angle. So you want something like the AccuRemote Digital Electronic Magnetic Angle Gage.

They offer sales at the shows they attend, at least I know they do at Blade. I got my pro pack 3 for 20% off, and everything else was 10% off.

I only own 2 sharpening systems. A Wicked Edge Pro Pack I for V edge and Work Sharp Ken Onion for convex. I have no skills whatsoever sharpening wise so I spent the money on these because they are easy to learn and use and be consistent on with very little learning curve and time invested. Also, most WE systems now take up to 3/8 in. thick blades which is better than the previously mentioned 3/16 but there are still a few that only take 3/16 so watch for this when purchasing.

Thanks for the response Hyde. Do you know which one comes with the 3/8 off the bat? I'm actually shopping around as we speak for a WE. I'm just trying to get a good one from the beginning. These things are pricey. Thanks for your help.

I’ve had a WE for a real long time. The first ones he sold. Think I’m ready to try a tormek now. And since they have the Japanese 4000 grit stone now. It should be super nice and fast.
This should keep me busy till I can buy my bader3.
