Which Spyderco are you carrying today?

New blue titanium screws for my Techno

I was carrying a ZT0900 for a few days but after responding to a couple of threads comparing it so highly against other Spyders, I decided to carry an Advocate today instead.

I don't like most all metal knives but this one is special. It is light for an all metal knife (certainly because it's entirely made of Ti but also because it was designed to be so thin), the blade shape is classic and suitable for just about any normal EDC task, the 3.5" blade is hella sharp and boasts M4 steel that (based on what they say) some people apparently would die for and it is among the least likely Spyders to show any pocket wear because of the all Ti body and polished clip (which may be something that only I consider all that important).

It ranks right up there w/my ZT 0562 G10, which is high praise from me. Gotta love it! I just don't think it gets much (if any) better than this for an EDC folder. :)

After carrying a Gayle Bradley designed Advocate for a few days, decided to stay w/the same designer and pocket an original Bradley Folder (or Gayle Bradley 1, as it is commonly referred to here).

The GB1 was later followed by the GB2, which Spyderco describes as an improvement over the GB1 via its CQI program, that resulted in a slightly longer, lighter and arguably more "ergonomic" knife.

I own both knives and, while the GB2 is a nice knife, IMO the GB1 is a design that really didn't need any improvement.

The GB1 fits better in my hand w/the forward finger indentation in the handle at the pivot rather than behind it in the GB2. So, it is more ergonomic for me than is the GB2. I also like the thicker liners and handle of the GB1 which feels more substantial in my hand than does the GB2 and makes the knife seem stronger and more suitable for heavy duty than does the GB1. Lastly, the slightly (0.2") longer length of the blade of the GB2 is really of no importance to me.

So, the GB1 is preferable to me.

Only thing in my pocket right now is my "Traveling Knife". A decade old Byrd Robin 1 with Clip Delete. It's boring but it works and meets the 2.5" limit I have to meet on occasion.
