Which Steel Has the Best Edge Retention?

It seems no different to me than linking to a YouTuber who takes patreon donations or to Wikipedia articles, which we do here frequently without issues.
That is a fair point. But when individuals repeatedly post threads promoting their YouTube channels then they cop flak. Deservedly. Some people pay for membership in order to get rid of advertising.

Does having a paid membership here eliminate advertising? I never noticed, haha.

I get your point, but this feels less like advertising and more like sharing. Fair enough though.

It’s true that there is a load of promotion here! But, to be fair, the greater percentage is from bona fide, disinterested enthusiasts.

What's the CATRA test, like a robot arm that cuts paper with a kinfe?

For the record, I don't click those either. Again, why is Larrin not choosing to simply present his information here?

Simple: he's trying to drive traffic to his website for ad-revenue purposes, and sorry, but I think it's poor class to come to someone else's website to try to drive revenue traffic to your own website. That's shady to me, others may be alright with it.

I don't see any ads on his site, just lots of good information. To put all that info on his site here would take a lot of space and it would be fragmented. It's much more useful to be in one spot that easily accessed.

Larrin puts out a lot of good information. I appreciate it.

Cool. Stop clicking on the posts and commenting on them then. The rest of us enjoy them.

To the OP, I found your website a week or so ago. It's very well done, I appreciate all the work you put into it, thank you.

And looking at what the OP has done, if that was posted here it would be fragmented and wouldn't be as well laid out and easy to read. Not to mention lost in relatively short time with all the other threads going on.

This article reminds me of what cliff stamp (yeah I said it lol) has been saying he has been observing for years in his own testing, that edge geometry is more important to edge retention than the steel type itself - although it does play a roll obviously. Also he has recorded that lower edge angles have longer edge retention when cutting soft materials. Good to see a second validation of this :)

* updated w/ links (not conclusive research but interesting nonetheless)
