Which Titanium Alloy?

Mecha , my avatar is Danger Mouse , a British James Bond type . He has a Titanium belt buckle to help protect himself from the bad guys !!!

That and a nuclear blast, for starters. Also defending against Superman, I MEAN -WITH- Superman. Right, right...

Is Grade 23 super expensive?

Hi Mete and Lycosa! :D

Jens: ti alloys for implants recently phased out a lot of the vanadium (6al4v ELI) and replaced it with niobium as a beta stabilizer, as it is biologically neutral like the ti when it's alloyed, and increases the material properties desired for a fake joint, such as wear resistance.
Nice. You know a lot about Ti! :-D
Was there anything bad about Vanadium or was it just not as good?

That's right, the vanadium can be slightly toxic or trigger an immune response, especially on a joint that wears down.

Which country currently does the best grade of titanium?

Unknown, especially since the craziest beta ti alloys remain obscure and are not available to the public. BUT, it's gonna be either USA, Russia, or Japan.

Gotta be U.S.A. ~ why? Allow me to explain, in -SONG-

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
’Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

...

Hopefully that covers it (?)

Totally. Though if titanium were in the songs it would be even more convincing.
Even Kazakhstan managed to praise their potassium in their anthem.

Well, who says the red glare was not from Titanium rockets? Also, who wouldn't want Titanium flag poles, with star-spangled banners no less? Also also, the haughty foe's host could be an android body made from Titanium alloys w/ shielded circuits.

I wonder how much these researchers get paid to constantly "discover," over and over again, that heat-treating a beta metastable ti alloy makes it harder and stronger? Researchers in the '70s were already making bimetallic titanium plates with beta phase surfaces over Rc 60 in hardness.

So where do I buy it in barstock?

Yes Natlek some people are slow to learn. My first experience with Ti was in school watching a student working on a thesis - superplasticity in Ti - 1000% elongation !! Then it was a large heat exchanger in a corrosive situation .With Ti tubes and the end plate wasTi and steel put together with explosive bonding !
In the early days [cold war ] we bought Ti sponge from USSR and made Ti alloys for missles and fighter aircaft !!
Oh the paint ? The Ti oxide has better coverage than Zn oxide.

We here in USA supplies THE best TI from mill. However, sadly ever since 6-8 months ago, CHINA stolen our intellectual property, especially military Grade 5 6al4v Titanium alloy. Now China is offering Titanium for sale online. China is stealing everything.

Back to Titanium...most commonly use is Grade 5 (6al4v) with or w/o heat treatment. Pure Titanium property by itself is soft like grade 2 CP3. It's when formulate with alloy that is when the mechanical property strengthen. Raw materials of Titanium is now indeed not cheap. But when material with certificate, then price goes sky high. But wouldn't worry about that on knives...certs goes with aerospace application.

Well, besides being butthurt I guess it serves you right if "China steals everything" they are probably better at spelling as well.

I think it's more a spelling Nutzi than the grammar kind.
