Recommendation? Which would you buy?!

Mannnn...I just don't think I could ever be a fixed blade kind of guy..to me a fixed blade means your taking the family out to some camp ground widiling tinder to makeshift a bow and arrow for your son and teaching him how to hunt game in the Red Wood Forest lol.

Every knife person needs a fixed blade. Fact. ;)

I used to think the same way. Then I found the Hess Caper, Battle Horse Frontier Valley, and other similar knives. They're small enough that I can carry them at the 7 o'clock position on my belt (I'm left handed) and tuck the sheath into my back pocket. My shirt covers the upper part of the sheath and it's completely concealed. I don't feel like a pirate running around with a sheath hanging down my leg.

I've found that having a small fixed blade handy is great when the work is especially messy, think cutting into a bag of manure, and you don't want to have to clean out the pivot on a folding knife or when my hands are especially dirty and I don't want to get that on a knife that's going back in my pocket. I'm not trying to sell you on the idea of a fixed blade, just explaining that there are much more mundane reasons for carrying one.

I took some quick and dirty cell phone pics to show you what I mean. The first picture is what you would see if you saw me walking around, if you were looking at my butt I suppose.

The second picture is with the shirt tucked up over the knife so that you can see what's happening underneath.

The third one is what you'd see if I was bending in some way where the sheath would be exposed. Not too dramatic.

They got pretty blurry when I cropped them down, but you get an idea. It's really not as dramatic as some people might think when they imagine carrying around a fixed blade knife. Here's a picture of the knife that I'm carrying in the above pictures.

IMG_2201.JPG IMG_2202.JPG Have to agree with Cory & Cray on the fixed blade.
I have a Guardian 3 with a horizontal carry leather sheath. Very comfy and hides under an untucked T shirt.
I use mine for the rough stuff at work.....HVAC. It is a keeper!!
Don't dismiss an EDC fixed!
Joe

Spyderco Stretch HAP40. There are still some available out there for about $130. One of the "sliceyest" knives I've tried, and HAP40 really should be more available - great stuff!

I agree with Joe. The G3 is a modern EDC mixed blade that might suite your taste in steels (M390 & 3v). I mostly carry mine IWB with the kydex sheath and a Spyderco G-clip but I also use a pocket sheath on occasion. If you want a tough small EDC FB work knife I'd get something in 3v. Great Stuff.

Welp..now I want a damn G3..thanks Cory Hess Cory Hess lol. Maybe that's the next step instead of going the Crooked River route ..
Where can I get a nice leather sheath like that? Any sites you guys recommend ?

Cory or Me?
Anyone, sorry just kind of speaking to all. But I've done little research and I've found a nice black Kydex sheath from Bradford. I think I'll go that route.

I'm just worried I won't be able to position the sheath to be "in line with my belt" if that makes any sense ??

LoL, I've found that whatever type of knife it is I think I'll never be into, sooner or later I've got a dozen of them. ;)

I have a knife with a horizontal sheath. I like it quite a bit. It just takes up too much real estate on my belt when I'm wearing my gun holster as well. Some people get around this by wearing the sheath in a crossdraw position. I went to vertical sheaths. It's just personal taste, but the horizontal sheath definitely works well and nobody could ever tell I had a knife on my belt.

As for finding leather sheaths, there's a Wanted section in the Knifemaker's Market where you can make a post to find some sheath makers. I can't recommend any off of the top of my head, but I know that there is a group of members here who do fine work. I haven't used a Bradford sheath, but from what I've read they do a fine job on all their products and I'm sure it would work just fine for you.

When I bought my G3 it came with a nice leather horizontal sheath. I'm not much of a leather guy so I also got the optional pancake kydex sheath with G-clip. Both sheath can be set up for horizontal carry (in line with your belt) and the G-clip also gives you a bunch of other options to cant it any way you want. It is the third picture in my post above. The pocket sheath I got at Knives Ship Free.

Alright gentlemen..your talking to the new owner of a
M390 OD Green G3 ;)

Now I'm currently at a impass whether I should just call it quits at the leather sheath that the knife comes with or go Kydex..I'm worried that the Kydex sheath will be rather stiff compared to a nice leather one? Is this true? Anyone have experience with both? Once again thanks for all the info guys..the BF community making me a better "EDC'ist" everyday hahah.

Thanks for the reference man I'll check out that neck of the woods once I figure out how I want to carry this beast.

I've owned both but never used the leather it came with for belt carry. I'm a 100% kydex kind of guy so I'm not one to give advice on this, though I've heard plenty of people talk positively about the leather horizontal sheath. I would say try the leather it comes with. You will likely enjoy it. If not, get the kydex too. Won't cost you anything more but shipping to buy them separate.

Yeah I feel as if the blade will just fall into the Kydex nicely ..and the leather will tend to feel more snug and resistant ? Guess it's all preference ..

I have the black leather sheath that it came with.
When I get home I'll get a pic for you. I found cross draw, horizontal belt carry, very comfortable when working. You really forget it's there.

That's exactly how I planned on carrying mine once I receive it. Can't wait my friend. I'm stoked about the horizontal carry.
Thanks for the pics in advanced by the way ...I appreciate it.

I went through a phase of high end customs from whoever were the popular makers at the time (David Mosier) was my favorite. Still have a few customs but found I can get everything I need for under $200 on the exchange.
