Who actually buys mantis knives or dark ops?

In my opinion, the main difference between a mall ninja and other knife enthusiasts is the importance of functionality vs the 'cool factor'. Mall stores that sell knives tend to sell knives and accessories that look cool to general population, whether it is tactical looking stuff or oddly shaped knives. Now, a knife might be functional as well as cool looking, but it's about what matters most. Example: do you pick BK-2 or Tom Brown Tracker? To the best of my knowledge, the BK-2 can do everything a Tracker can for half the weight and 1/6th the price. Just my opinion, though.

I own the Mantis 7.2 Folding Pry, it is a great knife, i carry it often. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I would have expected his picture to be next to the entry "Jabba the Knife Pimp." Basically, a mall ninja is someone for whom "how to go pee-pee in the little plastic potty instead of your Huggies" was as close as they ever got to "basic training." Suffice to say that some of them probably didn't even complete that course. Oh, and Jared West wears eyeliner for his photo shoots. ;)
I looked up Mall Ninja in the dictionary and all it said was "see Lynn Thompson"

How do I train to become a Mall-Ninja? Because, having never been a Soldier or an LEO or anything where the word "tactical" is used with any literal meaning, I think Mall-Ninja is an easily attainable goal. WHat say?
btw I did spit my coffee reading those links.........I am actually enjoying reading them out loud :D
Second Edit_ This man Geckosomebody is to the tactical world what L.Ron Hubbard is to religion.............
THIRD Edit_ But what is even some of it is true?

As for mall ninjas... as far as the world is concerned, any grown man who fiddles with knives... is a mall ninja. So if you want to know what a mall ninja looks like to the rest of the world, look in the mirror. The only reason we rag of mall ninjas is because there's gotta be someone we can kick, too.

Well said sir,and for using ''tactical gear'' i see no problem.I always wear loose cargo pants and 5.11 or blackhawk ones are comfortable:D
And prefer the maxpedition-5.11 bags over the ''normal peoples'' bag i guess.

I bought two Dark ops knives, a stratofighter stilleto and a vendetta, so that I could make a fair accessment of them. I dont like to listen to hype of bias as I perfer to see things for myself. They arent terrible knives. Im trying to sell them now because I just dont carry them but if you're into big knives then you may like them. The lock is pretty tough on the stratofighter although that crossbolt doesnt quiet serve a purpose. I think that just because the advertisement is over the top doesnt mean they should be instantly discredited. I dont believe they are terribly overpriced as there is alot of material on these things. No my cup of tea personally but not crap either. Get one and decide on your own is my feeling.

My perception of a mall ninja is a kid who pretends he's bad ass, but will never have the cajones/strength to actually serve.

He hangs out at the mall (or other social places) with his two $6 karambits. He doesn't actually know what a "karambit" or a "hawkbill" knife is, but they look super cool, so he bought two to "dual wield". He also owns several fantasy swords and knives and enjoys swinging them around in his parent's back yard on occasion. Some times he will even film his "bad assedness" and post it to youtube, and we are left with gems such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GwydiqzadI

I normally hate Mantis, but I actually like a very select few of their knives; and they aren't that pricey.

I've come close to buying that Warren Thomas designed friction folder more than a few times. The QC issues are the only reason I don't have one already.

I just bought a Vuja De week before last. Very nice F&F, very sharp, and the amount of thought that went into the design is obvious. I like it. Several of the knives posted above also appeal to me and I will certainly end up with at least a couple of them at some point. I won't address the politics involved in the Mantis/BFC relationship, since all the hoopla was before my time here, but I will say that when I first saw their knives (about 2 years ago at knifecenter) they were way too bizarre for my taste. In the intervening couple of years, though, several designs have really grown on me. I guess the ninja/jedi forces in me were stronger than I thought.:D

Not necessarily, I would just think that of the thousands that do there would be someone admitting to w purchase. I see so many other brands being spoken of that are much more obscure.

How do they do at deflecting arterial spray and Taliban fluids?
