Who among you FISHES?

I fish from time to time. Bluegills, Sun Fish, Crappie, Dogfish, and Large Mouth Bass. St. Joseph River, Austin Lake, Sugarloaf lake, and West lake are my favorite spots. Rapala JSR 6 SHAD is my favorite lure. Caught my biggest Largemouth on it. A busch, blue moon wheat, or hieneken beer and something to much on is perfect. A hollow handle filet knife with a brass pommel that unscrews to store things in the handle, would be pretty neat. 6' blade, stiff towards the handle 3/16'' thickness or thinner, that tapers down to a slim tip, preferably integral?? A gaurd that resembles something like the guard on the Olsen model 4202; curved back and "C" shaped to protect your fingers, but thicker to fit your hand better. That would be my ideal fishing knife. Just ideas.

Use to Fish the St. Joe River some, it's about a 2 hour drive for me to Berrian Springs Dam. Salmon, Steelhead and Smallmouth bass mostly. Would like to see a drawing of your fillet knife Idea, that Olsen Brass hilt is pretty distinctive. I always felt it was to large, but I have never used one.

i love to fish. i always say i will fish more (usually about this time of year), but i still do get out a bit. i grew up a spin-fishermen, and still do occasionally. but, i am trying my hand at fly-fishing. after about a half-dozen years, i can really whip that water into a froth! :D

it is maddening at times. but, every now and again, i get the cast just right...and you get that feeling...that rhythm...that flow...and i get it.

i grew up Northshore Mass and used to Striper fish on Plum Island. that is one reason i got into fly fishing....to fish a popular area called Joppa Flats. but, i still have not done it. i plan to this year. (please forget about the fact i said that last year)

We have an incredible fishery in Lake Champlain (and the its river systems). i just got an 8wt rod, so i hope to do some warmwater species fly-fishing this year (bass and pike) along with the trout fishing.

i am seeing this thread too late in the evening. but, i will try to add some of my favorite pics too another time.

thanks for the thread Brad. love it.

P.S. congrats on the boat Mack. i look for deals every year, but for now, i'm still just canoeing about. may add a fishing kayak this year. been looking again, but may not be in the budget.

I'm a fisherman myself. I mainly fish for salmon up here in Alaska. Sometimes I will take a charter for halibut, rockfish and lingcod. I also go down to Homer every year and fish for yellow fin sole and polluck. I take fishing very seriously and I fish hard and when it comes to salmon, I don't throw away that much. I keep the eggs for bait and I also eat them. I enjoy eating the salmon livers and hearts.

Budget? Who has a budget? A friend of mine just told me about a boat and trailer that I can have for free. Just tow it off, the guy doesn't want it anymore. I will be checking it out.

Usually anytime somebody gives me something for FREE, it isn't worth the price I paid.

However, I had a free boat once, and with extensive remodeling it was one of my favorites, had it for years!
Someday I'll tell the story of the BUFFALO BOAT.

you're right. i don't have a budget. i made that up. that just means i don't have the money to buy one. :D

Reminds me of the time a friend bought a new washer and dryer. He tried giving the old ones away and had no takers, advertised them for sale and sold the following day.

so, i had dinner with my folks in Concord, NH....and i ended up coming back with a kayak? yup.

i like stopping in at the LL Bean outlet when i am down there. and they had a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 12 Angler. it was a return so was already 25% off. then, i asked to talk to the manager and pointed out a gouge in the hull and asked if there was any wiggle room in the price. he inspected it and said, "uhhh...how about 20% off?" i said, "i'll take it!" one of the foot pegs was broken too, so he knocked off another 5%. overall, i got a 2014 Tarpon 12 for about 45% off.

now, it's not exactly what i was looking for. i wanted something i could stand in. i don't think this is it. but, i have been looking for a good deal for 2 yrs....i just couldn't say no at that price. i am pretty happy with it and look forward to checking it out.

thanks guys. i just had to tell someone. :D

Here are 3 more pictures. The 1st one is of a 33 pound king salmon that I caught years ago at Montana Creek. The second are some nice red / sockeye salmon that I caught on the Kenai river years ago. The last one is my 62 quart ice chest filled with 40 Pollock and 18 Yellow Fin Sole caught last year in Homer Alaska.
