Who can make a Buster Sword

This is a more reasonable sword project. It's a real old thread, but frickin' cool. A functional master sword! Click.

If you want something similar to Sephiroth's sword that's functional, check this beast out. I got to handle the proto at SHOT last year and it's taller than I am. Click.

However, for a Buster Sword styled thing it'll cost you ridiculous amount of money and it'll be difficult finding any serious smith to make something that's basically of fantasy proportions. I understand where you're coming from, and I'm sure you can find a way to accomplish your goal, but just be aware that it won't be easy or even remotely cheap. :)

I had to look up Sepiroth and see what it was... I never actually played FF... I just remember the sword. I was always a HALO kinda guy... instant feedback and the grenades stick to people. That thing is crazy long. To tell you the truth... I don't need it to be seriously functional like have a super hard edge and razor sharp blade... It's not like I'm gonna use it... just hard enough and durable enough so I could smash it into stuff if the mood strikes me... and sharp enough to bite into wood... I don't need it to shave me LOL... that would be terrifying.

LOL... I contacted Yangdu about the craftsmen of HI making this thing... I hope it's not crazy expensive... I expect it to cost some cash... But I'm hoping for something I can afford. He's probably gonna tell me to never contact him again.

If you're going to do it, go ALL THE WAY and give the Busse Custom Shop a call. That thing would make the Chuckette look like a little girly knife.

OMG I don't have $30,000.00 to spend on a sword LOL. $100.00 an inch used to be his old custom price... That would make this thing at least $9,600.00 out of INFI... and I knife Jerry would charge extra for the 8.5" wide blade. I KNOW IT! I bet the best Jerry could do for me is $20,000.00 on this monster. That would literally kill me.

maybe the boys at HI could do it... they take insane custom orders from time to time and they're price isn't crazy... Won't be super steel but they're craftsmanship is on point.

Hammering together enough Mecedes leaf springs to make something of those dimensions would be a Herculean undertaking!

Even the janawar katne khuks are probably only about 1/2 or 1/3 of the size of the proposed sword I'd guess.

You know what would be cool, to have that sword made out of carbon fiber, laminated with a carbide cutting edge. There's a custom maker who makes swords that way, I can't recall his name offhand though. A carbon fiber, laminated sword of those dimensions might actually be almost practical. Provided a strong wind doesn't come along to blow your sword into your face and decapitate you.

Edit: Warren Thomas- that's his name.

Pretty cool.

See, if it could be given a complex series of fullers like so, it would lighten and stiffen the blade significantly. It would increase cost, but increase looks and functionality.

That would be Warren Thomas. Click. A sword of that size might make it practical, but you'd need a very well-shaped oval profile to the grip so that the blade wouldn't want to rotate due to air resistance.

Schematic (and some of the blades in the vids) are ALL WRONG! Where are the Materia slots!

A carbon fiber blade would look AWESOME... but his regular katana is like 4 grand... a Buster Sword would be like buying a house.

Nice pic of zack with bster sword. if you like the sword so much you should really just sit down and watch Final Fantasy advent children its worth the time even if you are like me not a gamer. luckily i have nerdy friends that fill me in on this stuff.

Good luck find something like that.

this might be good for you though: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-ADVENT-CHILDREN-BUSTER/dp/B000JNQUZ2

pretty sure that clouds sword origionally belonged to zack so they should be one in the same.

whew i gotta go do something tactical so i feel less nerdy :D

It would still be better as a rudder for a small boat, but the carbon fiber blade is probably your best bet for being even remotely usable.

That buster sword video was also awesome.

Holes on the blade to reduce weight?

Heavier pommel/skullcrusher to enable better handling?

Just a few suggestions. :)

PS: How about the sword in Conan the barbarian? I always like that sword and not only is it functional, it is much more swingable (if ever such a word existed)!

too bad....Ken Coats and I just cut up a 6' x 6" x 1/2" blade from a paper shearing plant to make a frame for my grinder. If that sword was 3/8" thick and had the dimension of the one in your drawing, it would weigh a ton. It took the two of us to handle that big blade (it was hair popping sharp too). I'm not sure of the cost but if you decide what kind of steel you want it to be made of, give admiral steel a call and see if they can sell you a "bar" in that size. I'd imagine the cost of the steel alone to be extremely expensive. Even if you got carbon steel in that size though, there are probably only a few makers that have heat treat capabilities to temper something that big. It would take a massive forge to do that I imagine. That will add to the cost as well. I know you are thinking "excess" but to get an idea of what that thing will weigh, go to your local Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. and see if they have mild steel in 3/8" x 2" x 4'. If I estimated correctly, you'd need about seven of them. That's a pretty heavy load of steel. And it will seem even heavier in one long peice. I have no issues at all with your idea....to each his own....but I think your design may have to be downsized quite a bit just to be able to be handled.
