Who can make a Buster Sword

Nice pic of zack with bster sword. if you like the sword so much you should really just sit down and watch Final Fantasy advent children its worth the time even if you are like me not a gamer. luckily i have nerdy friends that fill me in on this stuff.

Good luck find something like that.

this might be good for you though: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-ADVENT-CHILDREN-BUSTER/dp/B000JNQUZ2

pretty sure that clouds sword origionally belonged to zack so they should be one in the same.

whew i gotta go do something tactical so i feel less nerdy :D

Just to show off my own geek index I'll add some background info to what you have posted.

The pic is Zack, as you say who got himself killed by Sephiroth (THE number one video game villain of all time). Cloud then assumes Zacks identity to the level that he forgets his own self. He does that by taking the Buster from his friend and killing Sephiroth, or at least one version of him. The Buster sword is the starting weapon of Cloud in the game Final Fantasy 7 from the mid 90s. One of the best and most influential rpgs of all time. And dont get me started on the gold chocobo:D.

Enough about the FF7 info. How about making that thing lighter by either making a composite as suggested or even hollow. 2 outer layers of aluminum with a pattern of supports inside. Weld a steel edge to it if you want it sharp.

PS: How about the sword in Conan the barbarian? I always like that sword and not only is it functional, it is much more swingable (if ever such a word existed)!

Yeah... it's not really about being functional... I have two Criswell swords (Kat and Wak) and I have a Busse AK47 on the way. I got useful blades. Something like this is simply for the WTF value. Which is why I don't even think it would matter if it were anything more than torch hardned on the edge just so that it could take the impact of hitting say a log or something without denting or chipping. But honestly... if I never get one of these for real... that giant kuk shown earlier would be a nice compromise.

We're in a recession.
Better make that beast out of cardboard and paint it silver. :D

Or paper mache', with silver duct tape, with razor blades for the edge, and a broomstick handle!:cool:

Or you could make yourself a prison-shank version of the Buster sword, with melted, sharpened toothbrush heads as the edge. You'd be the baddest dude on the cellbock with that sucker!

I think you could make a reasonably functional Buster sword out of fiberglass-covered foam, with a rod handle, and a thin steel edge, reinforced with extra fiberglass, epoxied into place. Kind of like a large model airplane wing.

too bad....Ken Coats and I just cut up a 6' x 6" x 1/2" blade from a paper shearing plant to make a frame for my grinder. If that sword was 3/8" thick and had the dimension of the one in your drawing, it would weigh a ton. It took the two of us to handle that big blade (it was hair popping sharp too). I'm not sure of the cost but if you decide what kind of steel you want it to be made of, give admiral steel a call and see if they can sell you a "bar" in that size. I'd imagine the cost of the steel alone to be extremely expensive. Even if you got carbon steel in that size though, there are probably only a few makers that have heat treat capabilities to temper something that big. It would take a massive forge to do that I imagine. That will add to the cost as well. I know you are thinking "excess" but to get an idea of what that thing will weigh, go to your local Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. and see if they have mild steel in 3/8" x 2" x 4'. If I estimated correctly, you'd need about seven of them. That's a pretty heavy load of steel. And it will seem even heavier in one long peice. I have no issues at all with your idea....to each his own....but I think your design may have to be downsized quite a bit just to be able to be handled.

Yeah... not sure what it will handle like. I'm a fairly big guy. I can bench about 365lbs so I can handle some weight... I think as long as I kept it under 100lbs I could move it around. I toss around the 55lbs weight bar at the gym fairly easily... I mean nothing as smooth as one would with a sword mind you... but I can swing it around. So a 75lbs sword would at least be managable for me.

I think I gotta get one of those. LOL

Here's Yangdu with a similar one:

Of course, that's relatively slim compared to the giant Ganga Ram Dave Rishar bought from HI.

Why did someone have to link that Odin blades web site ? I need a bucket and a mop to clean up the drool. Beautiful swords. I'm speechless.

I especially liked their Dha. I woulda liked to see a price list so I could resign myself to not being able to afford 'em and get on with it. :o

I'd suggest making the blade about 1/4 thick then it wouldn't be insane heavy, also I dunno about cost but maybe make the top half of the blade aluminum? I remember Cloud's blade having a kind of...I forget the word but guard extends over the blade.

If you think of it you could, maybe, make this a manageable sword.

Good luck!

Having the flats of the blade hollow ground/forged would reduce weight a little without having conventional fullers... though you can bet it'd increase the alraedy tremendous cost!
