Who doesnt let the cold weather stop their overnighters?

This is a bit of an exageration so don't take me literally......

This is my philosophy.....

"In cold weather I dress as if I were going to spend the night outside in the open air..... then I bring an empty pack with hopes of filling it with the clothes I took off as not to overheat."

I defiantly agree with the different perceptions of cold. It was in the 50's this morning and I thought it was pretty chilly.

I usually try to go at least once in the cold weather as long as its above freezing.

Makes sense to me!!

i prefer cold to bugs or mud anyday. a good sleeping bag and pad make it comfortable for me but we have also camped with cheap bags and blankets in the teens by throwing up a leanto, reflector fire and busting up a few bales of straw if we didnt have to carry them too far from the truck. we usually have to shed the outer clothing once we get settled in around the fire or we get too hot. its also funny looking back how we as kids used to argue about who got to sleep with the dog in their sleeping bag as he kept you even warmer. one of the things i like most is how winter camping lends itself to sitting around the fire with family/friends talking and cooking much more so than in the warmer seasons when we spend more time with other activities. its funny how some people look at you when they find out your taking your kids out winter camping without a tent. like your going to freeze to death or something. its an all around good time.

In some ways I actually prefer the cold. During the winter it's always quieter where I live, and you rarely see others out. Fires also feel wonderful when you're in freezing temperatures.

Its great to hear that most of you boys dont let the winter put a damper on the fun. I dont mind it. I spent nights in waay colder temps when I was in the Army in germany, then it gets here in MO. I kinda like the stillness of the winter.

Down here in Louisiana, I do MORE camping in the winter than any other time. Course, it's a stretch of the word to use "winter" to describe what we get around here compared to what most of you get...

I've always loved the cold. Last year, I think I spent more nights outdoors during the winter than in the summer. Winter doesn't bother me at all - it's in many ways my favourite season, although summer has some very nice sides, too.

Obviously, there are changes in the gear. Shorts and a t-shirt are all well and good in the summer, but you need something a little bit warmer in the Finnish winter. :D

Honestly, I really hate camping in the summer months (I sweat like a river) - I wait for the fall/winter before I do any camping.

It's just not camping to me until I can layer up, watch myself breath, and have a nice fire going

I love it all..Hot. Cold, Rainy, snowing, it's all good. as long as the fires hot and the coffee is good.

I haven't been camping/hunting/fishing in about 4 years...time to get there eh?:o

I've always preferred the biting cold weather to the agonizing heat.I just make sure I have plenty of fire-starting gear/fuel,& a few wool blankets, lots of layering, etc.

....man I gotta get out there again.I use to go camping in the Adirondacks in Nov. & Dec all the time...there's nothing like the smell of winter right around the corner,in the mountains.:)

I like winter/summer/fall equally, but I try to time my trips to avoid the rain. As for winter, the hike yesterday was about 60-65 degrees, with 40 mph winds at the top of the mountain. Very strange for late October, but nice!

I used to love winter camping before I got married - spent many a fine and cold week up Scottish hillsides. My wife prefers a warm bed at nights. I've no idea what the coldest I've camped in was, but I've known it to be cold enough to freeze the moisture inside my nose as I breathed in.

It's just the rain I hate! Shame I live in England...

I like hiking in the rain or snow, cold does not seem to bother me. Heck, I just bought a small heater for my shop yesterday! BTW - Today is our first snow, it`s showering like crazy! Might have to try to drag one of the dogs off of the couch and go for a walk!

Campers are pretty scarce in North Dakota in the winter. I sometimes sleep in the Ice fishing house. 20 below zero is pretty common here in winter and of course it gets a lot colder than that at times. There are a few camp grounds in the area that hold winter camping for Muzzle loader guys I used to be into that and attended a few of those. I have camped in the Pick-Up camper during deer season a few times. Our deer season is in November and it's hard to keep your deer from freezing like a rock before you can get it cut up. One year I had to skin a couple with pliers like a catfish and then just chunk it up with the Recipe saw. I had hung them in the barn but it got down to 15 below that night and only got up to 13 below the next day.

I haven't winter camped in a about 10 years. I did camp in -40oC once. That was cold but not unbearable. Helps when you have the right gear. We used to tow our gear on tobaggans. They work really well and you get to take extra stuff - which amounts to a lot of food. Now most of my winter is spent in the Middle East.

i dont go camping in the summer....too many creepy crawlies for me!
last time i was able to go in the dead of winter was several years ago.
my camping buddies have all gotten married & have little ones.
(im the guy in the middle & my wife is in the blue/gray pull-over)
we were car camping in the smokey mountains
she was a trooper....as it was her first camping trip & she didnt complain once over the whole weekend.

fricking flippyfloppys in bloddy winter......HAHHAHA

In winter i tend to do more truck camping, with 4 x 50lb bags of charcoal briqquites and a half barrel. makes for one hell of a hot campsite.
