Who else discovered GEC knives here on BF?

Their #25 is hideous and useless with the spear blade configuration it has.
I found GEC knives here on BF. Can’t believe the hype.

I discovered them here, and on IG around the same time. They're difficult to source, but I make the effort for the ones I really want. I have a pretty substantial collection at this point, which I enjoy having. At the end of the day, they're no more difficult to source than any other collectible that's in high demand. I mean, hundreds made, yet tens of thousands are chasing. It is what it is.

I didn't pay much attention to traditional knives until around the time I changed careers in 2019 and started looking for knives that would be more appropriate for my new work environment. I found out about them as I started to spend more time in the traditional forum here. I make an effort to try and get the ones I want and sometimes come up short and don't worry about the ones that don't appeal to me. YMMV.

I did not learn about GEC on Blade Forums, but I used BF to figure out why they were always sold out and such the hype. Traditionals are not my forte, but I am still scratching my head as to the popularity of GEC. I find the script on the blades rather corny.

Another "not my thing guy here".
Strike One: I live in the West, (it's the Best)
Strike Two: Nail nicks- quaint
Strike Three: No supersteels
Strike Four: No lanyard holes or attachments
Strike Five: No pocket clips

I am old enough to remember these traditionally styled knives being the only option, and of course i have several from my youth, but personal cutlery has come a long way. I believe we now call it "tactical", but I am not a soldier or "warrior". I feel like they are the natural progression of life- anybody want to buy old CRT televisions or boomboxes? No, because we have the next generation of technology that makes life just better!

I guess I have no affinity for nostalgia, but you fans should keep it up! I appreciate everyone's passion here on BF for whatever floats your boats, be it Lambsfoot knives, or collectible WWII bayonets. Passion is what makes BF GREAT!

I'm new to knives as a hobby. I like the classic GEC designs. My EDC is a Case Trapper kickstart. The retail is about the same on both, but the resell on GECs is crazy. How do I buy a GEC at retail? From reading this thread I assume I need a lot of luck. Is there a big difference between my Case and a GEC?

with options like the 'traditional' lionsteel jack with m390 blades, for the same price, and good availability ... I've never ended up with a gec, but I see the appeal

I still do not get the appeal...

Well they are very high quality production traditionals, maybe the best production traditionals beeing made nowadays. Off course if you are not into slippies at all I get it.

The only thing I dont like is the low production #'s on each release and the fact that they are almost impossible to snag for us non US buyers. Luckily I'm getting pretty picky when it comes to what paterns I like so it's not all that often the frustration gets to me.

Lionsteel knives are awesome
I very much appreciate the quality and innovation and amazing value of lionsteel. But for me there’s just something special about the more traditional methods, pins that just disappear into perfectly polished bolsters and shields, seamless fittings of covers and springs with no gaps and all perfectly flush, all the textures and colors of bone, stag, etc., the snappy walk and talk you only really get with true traditionals, the historical patterns that all served a specific purpose, the steel that is soft enough for relatively easy sharpening and that develops a beautiful patina with use, dying art and GEC is one of the handful of production makers keeping it alive!

Yes, I discovered them here several years ago. I even managed to pick up a few before they changed the blade steel to unobtainium and started selling them by the ounce, like gold and silver. :)

I'm out, but to each their own. The good news is, I'll be selling the ones I have sometime soon and getting way more than I paid for them. I guess it's like Microsoft or Apple stocks - great if you load up before they get "big and famous", but maybe not as great when their "greatness" is already priced in.

Yes a great enterprice.

To me they kind of fall into the same great category of US business ideas together with Harley Davidson, Zippo, Fisher pens, CRK etc.

For me, a big factor is the natural covers. Once I discovered these nice pocket knives with natural covers (wood, stag, horn, etc) I was hooked.
Thanks to bf i now have 7 GECs and 4 Lionsteel (3 CK02 otnats and a CK01). Woo!

I saw some really cool knives on this forum and wondered what they were. They were GEC and I began buying and collecting them. The problem today is that the demand is so high and the supply so low that it has become a hassle to buy them. So, I have moved on to other brands and kinds of knives.

Found out about them here, but don't own any. Also have no plans to acquire one. I do think that the business model that uses artificial scarcity to drive demand a la busse or gec is fascinating.
