Who else EDCs a fixedblade?

These days the vast majority of tasks I need a knife for I can accomplish with a folder. When this was not the case (when I was hiking and camping a lot more) I used to have an RH-37 and a Nepalese Kuhkuri (with bi-knives) as EDC's.

I do enjoy a fixed blade on the belt.. Swick 4 the past week!! John

Sorry, I completely missed your post ! Just read it now.

I don't really know, but definitely thin (middle one). You can get an idea from the ruler pics, I hope. 1mm, more or less?

Fragile, no doubt.

But I am yet to break any of these three great knives!

Will update later with measurements if I can get them!

I carry a Survive Knives GSO 4.1 with M390 on my belt everyday to work and have since August 2013.

Next is a Survive Knives GSO Necker II that rides on my cruise vest. I am sure you are curious what is clipped to my pocket? Simple a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 S30V when marking timber (sometimes PM2 in S35VN).

Q: What is the perfect number of knives to carry at work?

A: Just one more...

I think the state of mind of the person carrying a fixed-blade in public is a very important component of carrying it.

I carry my fixed-blade in public all the time, but when I do I don't give a single thought about how others might react to it, or if they will even notice it. I'm sure that some people notice it, but they very rarely say anything about it. And no one has ever said anything negative about it.

When people are self-conscious about anything, they will very likely expect negative reactions from others, and perhaps imagine such reactions even when they aren't really there.

What it seems to me nobody mentions is that getting these kinds of reaction requires a fixed blade so small that it is no different from a folder, like almost all the knives in this thread... If you could easily be carrying a folder of the same size, and not even have to think about what anyone might think, I fail to see the point.

I quite agree. I like knives (hence I hang out at BF) but even I get a bit nervous when a person I don't know walks in with a large (4"+) fixed blade knife. Circumstances influences that reaction; I'm a lot less worried about an obvious farmer or rancher with a fixed blade knife than I would be about some apparent hoodlum or druggie.

As for the reaction of others to someone openly carrying a FB, I'm about to make the experiment. I just ordered a Bark River Pro-Scalpel from KSF. It should be here next week; then I can see reactions first hand.

If the knife I'm carrying is within the legal limits, I really don't care. Oh well if someone gets their panties in a wad because of a knife being used to cut something.

I do not get nervous when I see a man or a woman carry a small or large KNIFE or firearm.

I just do not understand that thinking (?) or reaction to an object or to a tool.

Now, if the person aka criminal (Or a gang!) was actually doing something with that object like stabbing or shooting some innocent person or a bunch of them... I would be very concerned.

But if the tool or object was sitting peacefully in his or her KNIFE sheath or gun holster... who gives a dang?!

NOT me!

THIS kind of thinking is what gets us (USA) into problems with the ANTI 'whatever object' folks when it comes to intelligent, logical and common sense thinking.

I can't speak for other citizens in other countries who can't even talk about, gasp, self defense issues.

What bothers me is actually reading and seeing attacks and murders on honest citizens including elderly women/men who may NOT be armed and are hurt and murdered in cold blood by a criminal or by some other ANIMAL who has 4 legs!

OUR ccw permits in THIS Montana county and some in some other states have a check box where YOU give and write down the REASON on WHY you want to get your permit to carry a weapon (Handgun, knife, etc.) to the local .gov man aka your county SHERIFF.

Now, most people FILL IN that space and put down: SELF DEFENSE. And that goes for women and men! :)

Some other people may fill in the RKBA aka Right to Keep and Bear Arms or some other reason but most people put down: Self Defense period.

Self Defense.

Now granted those 'two simple words' may offend and may not sink in to many people, stateside or not.

I would be more concerned about some person driving a car or truck in an erratic, crazy and full of criminal intent manner... yeah... THAT would concern ME much MORE that a KNIFE or a gun being carried in an Open or Concealed manner no matter what Size it was or what it LOOKED LIKE sitting peacefully in a sheath or holster.

PS:

Some of you may live in states or countries that do NOT allow some objects or tools to be carried in a specific manner. Knives or guns. Lots of rules for open or concealed.

That is a fact and therefore 'they' are not used to it.

Heck, another state just got their RIGHT and a LAW finally changed so they can 'open carry' handguns too. Some states never got that either.

Some countries do not even have CCW permits. And if they do, it is a royal pain in the butt to get one. A teeny, tiny percentage of their entire population have CCW permits. I looked some of these up when it came to their knife/gun laws.
