I have a question for my fellow forum members Who gave you your first pocketknife.
My grandpa gave me my first pocketknife a two bladed barlow, later on he gave some sort of a multi function pocket knife with more tools on it than the sears catalog.

Same with me, my grandpa. He gave me a swiss army knife which I sliced my finger open within the first hour of getting it lol. A few years later he gave me a Buck 303 which I still have.

Same here, my Granddad. As I recall, it was a little trapper pattern slipjoint - not a Case, but something similar. Black delrin handles jigged to look like stag. I used it for years as my camping and Scout knife. Wish I still had it around...

My grandparents give me a commemorative Canadian centennial knife when I was 8 (1967). Single blade, large pocketknife but I lost it some time ago.

90% of the replies is gonna be a heartfelt story about their dad or some other male relative. My story is cooler... I bought it myself. No hand me downs. Just so you guys know, I'm just envious.

Parents.

My Uncle gave me a Case Sodbuster. I almost lost my finger to that one.

This thread just reminded me about a knife my grandfather gave me when I was maybe 5 years old..My mom kept it, but everytine I wanted to see it she would let me..This was so long ago I'm giving her a call and seeing if she even remembers..I remember it was a small two bladed traditional, brown handles...

I did. I was seven at the time.

I bought an Old Timer Jr. Stockman from a vending machine in a train station. IIRC it cost me fifty cents.

I carried that knife into my teens. Once the blades were sharpened down to toothpicks, I bought another Old Timer Jr. Stockman.

The first knife (sort of) that I remember having was a trin trio. Who remembers those. A trim trio was about 2" long and had a small blade, a screwdriver/bottle opener and a file. This was back in the 60's. I think they cost a quarter. My father used to get me one every so often. I managed to loose or destroy them pretty quickly.

My grandfather gave me my first real knife. A small Tree Brand stockman when I was about 11 or 12. Man was I proud of that knife. I bet I open and closed each blade a thousand times the first week I had it.

I bought my first knife when I was 10 or so at a campground. Boker tree brand 1200. Feeling proud and excited, I sat on a stump just outside the shop and started whittling at a stick. Nearly cut my thumb to the bone... Still have that harsh mistress kicking around.

My Old Man, it was one of those keyring knives ya got in the vendin' machines at the rest areas for half a buck back in the 60s.

Ya know the kind that came with three blades, (a knife, can opener and a nail file) in a folded steel handle with a ball chain keyring (a Trim Trio), I used to get one of those

This was very many years ago- I used to get hand downs from my father (yellow handle 2nd from left in the photo). He would break the blade tips or whatever and would give them to me. My first new knife might have been a small slipjoint that my grandfather gave me almost 50 years ago (black one on the left in the photo).

My brother, it was a cheap smith and wesson from amazon, with a tanto profile and partially serrated. I remember asking him for his ducks unlmited knife to cut a hole in the side of a a big refrigerator box. I remember it being kinda hard because he had NEVER sharpened that blade. Even though he used it in boy scouts for at least 3 or 4 years. But being dull, it was kind of a challenge and that made it fun. It was kind of funny to see my mom's reaction when I got it, she's one of those "nothing dangerous for little timmy" mom's. Everyone and myself was amazed by how sharp the blade came. Came just about as sharp as my Mora, the knife could push cut paper super easily, and it wasn't a thin knife really.

Unfortunately I lost that knife, after having it for almost a year.

My dad bought me my first knife in cub scouts it was a buck cub lite a great little knife. I long ago lost the knife but i still have the sheath and a few a few memorable scars from it.
