  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

who gave you your first pocketknife?

My parents gave me my first knife when I first joined the BSA, which was some SAK that I thought was neat at the time but got bored with quickly. Not long after, they gave me a first gen Gerber Gator that had just come out, which I immediately switched to and never looked back. I still have that Gator, and it's been with me through countless adventures.

My father. When I was 8 he gave me a Vic sak, then when I was 10 he gave me a big case folder. Still have the case at my parents. No idea the model. 3" blade I think.

My dad did. A buck knock off, my brother and I both got one. Still have it. Always will

My father. A early 1970's Case slim two blade trapper cv barehead. Still have it the safe, even more cherished than any custom or Chris Reeve's to me at least.

As a kid my father gave me a SAK that I still kick myself for losing many years later on a camping/fishing trip on some little stream on Mount Leconte in the Smoky Mountains. If anyone finds it - let me know. ;)

As an adult, the retiring 1st SGT of my first unit gave me a Buck folding knife at his retirement (as I was the lowest ranking enlisted guy present). The knife had, in turn, been given to him by a retiring 1st SGT when he first entered the Army himself. I felt bad at the time he gave it to me since I had no intentions of being a career soldier, so I ended up passing it on to a friend that had just been promoted to CPL and was bound for PLDC (who was a career type and was present at the retirement ceremony). Thought it was a pretty cool tradition in any case.
