who gave you your first pocketknife?

My dad, a SAK, I lost it that day. So he gave me another one, he gave me some buck folders too. Now I am the one giving him knives. :D

My Granddad, when I was about six or seven. And he told me that a man should always carry a pocketknife. I guess I listened.

First knife I got was a two-blade Jack I had gotten as a prize from Boy Scouts and their infamous popcorn. The minute I had it in hand my parents deemed it too slippery and not a good beginning knife as the covers were a slick red plastic. For a replacement, they gave me my brother's old Camillus Scout knife, still have both those knives today.

My dad. I still have it, 45 years later, still in good condition. It is a carbon steel Henckels with bone scales and nickel silver bolsters. OAL is 3.25", main blade is 2.35" long. Small blade 1.5". It is a wicked slicer due to thin blades, thin behind the edge. It is also the only "gent's knife" I have ever owned.

My dad gave me my first knife, a Camp King, with a leather belt loop and snap for the bail. He also gave me my first fixed blade, a small hunting knife - sorry, I can't remember the brand, I'll have to see if I can find it. My grandmother, well probably grandad and grandma, gave me my first pocket knife that was mine to keep without turning it into my father after using, but that was an 8th grade graduation present.

My first knife was given to me by a hobo that came through on a cargo train that runs near our property. We let him camp there until another train came through. He was a nice guy. We gave hime some cans of beans, spam and a jar of Tang (powdered orange juice) and a extra large garbage bag ( to make a shelter or poncho) to help him out for a few days. He had a hard life life because he was riding the rails and only had one leg. He was also a Vietnam vet. I wonder if he ever made it to where he was going?

My dad gave me mine. I'll never forget it.
It was Christmas and I was 6 years old. I still got stuff from Santa on Christmas day, but lying under the tree for weeks was a box about 5" long, 2.5" wide, and half an inch thick. It said, To: Jake From: Dad. It was the first gift I remember getting from a parent (not Santa) on Christmas. I tried to figure out what it was every day. It was heavy.

Christmas morning it was the first thing I opened. I didn't care about all the other stuff. I just had to know what my dad had got me. Inside was a multi-tool. Leatherman tools had been invented as this was 1987. However, they were pretty rare. Instead it was your basic crescent wrench tool with a knife blade, scissors, and a couple of screwdrivers.
Very similar to this one:

Now, it was a cheapy and I promptly lost it out in the woods, but I was very heartbroken when I did. It spurred on my lifelong love of knives. It was a really neat gift from my old man. One that I have no forgotten and rank as one of the best presents I have ever received.

Grand dad gave me an old Camillus stockman when I was five or six. He told me it was a gift for his 23rd birthday from his late father. He had broken the tip using it as a screwdriver and just let me borrow it one day out in the woods and when I went to hand it back he said just keep it. Later that day he told me I could carry it everyday, even to school, as long as I knew how to act with it. What he said stuck. Never knew it was a name brand or anything until I got into higher quality knives and went back to reflect at my older ones.

Grandpa. The knife was a Schrade Old Timer, the 34OT, when I was about six. Later I lost that first knife when carrying it to Cub Scouts. I immediately bought an identical replacement, put it away for safe-keeping, and still have it today 35 years later. :)

My parents (I don't know which one paid for it) it was a green sak classic when I was about 6 or 7, then my pap gave me his buck pathfinder I think its called when i turned 12. I still have the vic somewheres. I think its deep in my junk tool box under leagues of wrenches and sockets and screwdrivers and odds and ends and the Buck is in my display case, heavily used from him and will always stay that way. All I do is clean and oil is every once and a while to keep it from rusting.

My Old Man, it was one of those keyring knives ya got in the vendin' machines at the rest areas for half a buck back in the 60s.

Ya know the kind that came with three blades, (a knife, can opener and a nail file) in a folded steel handle with a ball chain keyring (a Trim Trio), I used to get one of those

Wow that brought back a flash of memories

Those little steel knives bring back memories! My sister and I bought those at the store for maybe 75 cents long ago. My Dad gave me a few too. My first knife was a little yellow two blade jackknife made by Imperial.

Mom gave me my first knife, Dad gave me my first sharpening stone. One bladed SAK Sentry with the Boy Scouts of America logo on the red scales. Still have it 8 or 9 years later, as well as a few scars from it.

My grandfather gave me my first knife/multitool. Lost it when I was a kid, something you'd find on a keychain. Not even a SAK (though that was 2nd).
