Who has eaten cats or dogs?

While on a deployment to Asia, I had Dog! keep in mind that they killed it and cooked it but it was good, If it was not my dog and it was a end of time type situation I don't think it would be a problem for me. Cats well never had that but it could go on the pit as well if it got that bad.

I'd never eat my dog after seeing "A Boy and His Dog".

What, the girl had poor judgment but good taste? Har. Sure you don't want some?

I liked the short story ending slightly better. Same ending, just different dialog. Harlan Ellison wrote it if you're of a mind to look it up. He wrote a lot of twisted stuff. I like it. :D It might be hard to find, though, I remember reading it back in the 70s.

The milking machine scene in the movie was pretty good ...

As an aside, I loved Patrick O'Brian's books. Read 'em all. Surprisingly good information in them.

I ate quite a few things in Taiwan from the roadside vendors while workin' in Hinshu, I was told not to ask what I was eatin' just try it, I was told later that I had dumplings made with both.

When I was there it was not unusual to see a woman get out of a BMW or Mercedes with a little Terrier all decked out in jeweled collar under her arm while she picked her dinner, (a cat or dog) from rows of cages on the road side.

I was told later by my driver that they would order the cat or dog while they went shoppin' and when they headed home at the end of the day they would pick up the prepared animal on the way home for dinner.

I think I've eatin' every form of wildlife on this continent even had horse, actually not bad, a very mild meat considerin' how all they eat is grains, oats and grass.

When your hungry eventually everything edible is considered food.

I've always been open minded about food from other cultures and willin' to at least try it.

Whilst talking to an indonesian fellow, we came on to this topic. From someone who eats them regularly, I hear that dog tastes pretty good, while cat is pretty stringy. I can't say what I'd do unless I was in the situation. It'd probably be the worst meal I'd ever have...

I would eat a human before I'd eat my dogs. Seriously. My dogs would would eat another human but never me, so I reciprocate. :D
But seriously, I won't kill my dogs to eat them, period. If they died outside my control, I would not feel bad about eating them then. I would kill another human to feed them, how about that?
(Dogs have saved me and family more than once. Trust me, you will look upon them with different eyes.)

I never have, but the thread on cannabilism got me thinking. Between the wife and I, we have 4 cats. A show on the Spike channel (Manswers?) said cat is more nutritious than dog.

I love my cats, but I'd love them even more if they kept me alive a few more days.

edit: The pelts would make a good pair of mittins :D

There is no way I could ever eat my cats, the two to the right look just like mine. My cats are also very dangerous :D

Harlan Ellison is one of my favorites.
His non-fiction forwards to his stories are as good and sometimes better than the story he is introducing.lol!
Get the Expanded "Essential Ellison" for his best work.
For those who aren't easily offended read
"The 3 Most Important Things in Life" found here-

Scary and funny stuff!

I'd eat either one in a life or death situation. A .22LR behind the head while they sleep and they wouldn't feel a thing.

As with anything, variances occur. I put 5 CB Longs and 4 CCI Blazers from 2 feet into a cat's head a few weeks ago before it finally went, and this was an animal so weak it couldn't stand.

I ate bogogi in Korea. Dog stew. As I recall it was OK....after a few lefties and a half dozen beers.
No, bulgogi is beef, not dog.

Kagogi is dog.
And it's not too bad with some BBQ sauce on it.

And if you've ever stumbled out of a club in TDC Korea, and bought some of the "beef-on-a-stick" from one of the corner girls, then you've also eaten rat-on-a-stick.
Thank God for So-ju. ;)

I wouldn't ....
without a copy of that Korean cookbook "How to Wok your Dog"
Why else would the Chinese dog be call Chow!!? :D

If that is the case, what the heck was in the corn dogs from the shop by the tracks?

Also, apparently BBQd rat and coleslaw on a bun is delicious...

What scenario do you envision where all game animals are wiped out, and only pets are left?

To answer, no, I'm not eating my pets. Not gonna happen. Not eating people either. If it comes down to a strange scenario where edible animals besides fluffy and humans have ceased to be, saving myself for a few more days by devouring anything with a pulse is not on my agenda.

I'll have to agree with everything Kiah said.

Dave Canterbury from the Pathfinder School told me at Dirttime '09 that he had eaten coyote. He said the taste was bad and the consistency of the meat even worse. I'm sure I could do it if I were hungry enough but I sure wouldn't want to.

no a dog is loyal to the end and your best friend,never.................

That would make them easier to catch and coax into the skillet.

I only have a cat. In reality, I would probably be trying to take care of him more than myself. Stupid, I know.

If long term SHTF and E&E was implemented, there is plenty to eat in FL. Wild onions, palm hearts, yucca, prickly pear cactus, pine nuts and pine tea, black berries, citrus trees all over the place, armadillos, fish, turtles, snakes... That's just the stuff that I can easily gather and catch; I'm sure there is a plethora of edible goodies around here.
