Who has found THE knife?

Always have a SAK in pocket....always!! However, I have found that I now carry either a Demko or Strider as well. The combination of those two blades is just about all I need.....accept in my EDC bag where I have a .27" thick CPM 3V Demko fixed blade for whatever else life throws at me!!

I think...again...that I've given up on just THE one knife, they keep coming at us with new better knmouse traps, (new word ;) ) the Southard may do the trick, the last batch that came in wasn't enough to reach my name in the pre-order listing :( so it'll be a bit of a wait now I'm afraid, BUT, I just got a Spyderco Resilience in to tide me over in the mean time, a pretty big folder but man a lot of edge in that package for not so much money either.

And I also ordered a Spyderco Techno this morning, it's also on back order, good thing I do HAVE other sharp things to keep me amused until such time they ship ;)

SO, I enjoy reading that I'm not alone, my wife doesn't share this joy, go figure lol but I guess opposites really do attract...

I would never find the one.....my likes change to much for just one knife but with that said I do always come back to my favorites. My favorites include PM2, XM-18's, Sebenza's, Ti UKPK, Sage2, HK14205, and my new Sacha Thiel Officer. The Officer could very easily be that "one" knife with a few minor changes.

I have a set of Ti scales coming for my M390 PM2, this could be a "one" knife contender as well. Anxiously awaiting my Spyderco Southard to, not really a huge flipper fan but this knife looks really good. Then there is the CRK's, it will never end for me!

I honestly hope I don't find the perfect knife, collecting and using various knives as well as my time on the forums is what makes knives fun. My knife would be just another tool if otherwise.

Mike that is the best post in this thread, and you are so right.

Well thank you! I'm really not a "hobby" type person, so I don't know what I'd do if I didn't collect knives. Maybe drink or watch more football, but then It would be a competition with the wife. :D

Well, I think the Spyderco Resilience is holding a solid spot right now, if you guys/gals haven't given one a try, you certainly should do so, I have a Tenacious on order, it's the smaller cousin, but same layout and blade steel, VERY moderately priced but amazing how well it cuts and also how well it opens so quickly too, faster than some of the assisted knives I've own!

As I've read others, that they love the Resilience, I only recently discovered it and WOW, blown away by how well it cuts and also the ergonomics of the handle suits me pretty well, others may have different opinions, I've had several of the Military folders but didn't cotton to the handle or blade, love the look of them, but never got to where I just loved the knife. But the Resilience, that's a different matter all together!

Big brawny blade, 4 1/4" long and ALL edge, the grind is a full flat grind down to very thin cutting edge and man does she cut.

While it's not a high grade type steel, it seems to keep it's edge pretty good so far, I've touched it up on a ceramics and stropped and that's about it, simply a great cutter...

Here is an image of my folder, have a braided leather fob with a pewter skull bead, works well for drawing the knife out of the pocket.

and a closeup of the skull, held in place by means of a wedge of rubberized cork that keeps the skull from sliding off.

NOW, if Spyderco were to come out with one with CPM3v blade, ground as thin, DOUBLE WOW, I know it'd be a lot higher price point but I would hazard a guess that it would certainly GO very well, I for one would get one in a heart beat as would my new son in law too...

Kudos to the Spyderco gang on this design and completion, excellent work guys and gals !!!

You must be joking! If I found THE knife, what would I do with the rest of my life?! ;)

Crazy for sure.
I "think" it's the CQC7B for me. This classic folder always comes back to my pocket. Ernest has the folder formula down pat!

Hehe, firstly, you would be enjoying THAT knife, EVERY day, not a bad start to the rest of your life...

BUT the bad news is, you'll find SOMETHING else that will occupy your wants to replace that part of your life THE knife filled, so yeah, there really isn't a way out is there ?

And Rolf, it's tuff not to want one of Emerson's knives for sure, good stuff there!

For my EDC it's always been a Benchmade 710, polished blade in 154CM with the black G10. It's rock solid, lightning fast, holds a decent edge, and looks great in all situations. I'd love to try the same knife using one of the new supersteels though.

However, for fixed blades I see no end in sight....

I used to be deep in the hobby, but have been out for the last 5 or 6 years (may have been longer than that).

Obsessed with hunting/camping/fishing so I found a few knives back 5 or 6 years ago that I have been content with.

Mainly a BM 710 M2HSS and FK S1.
Those two are with me the most when I am outdoors.

Never really needed better for what I do, and they have held up 100% after alot of usage, and alot of things they were not designed for.

I have a bunch of other fixed and folding knives (several customs also), but those two are a match made in heaven for what I do, and really don't need anymore.

As I start getting back into knives, I might find something to replace them, but all the other knives I own get used mainly in the kitchen, or just fondled.

So I guess I might have found "The Two" in this case.

I think for most, the search is the most fun part!:p

I agree! Collectors are known to be picky and willing to search for and chase a new goal.

I discovered THE knife over 10 years ago, actually 3 of them- first was the Benchmade mini-AFCK, then the Benchmade Leopard took over, then the EDI Genesis. Each one had most of what I wanted but for some reason fit me better thanthe previous one. But now I've moved on to other knives. My current favorites are the Benchmade 913 Stryker, Benchmade 581 Barrage and Spyderco Paramilitary 2.

I'm always in the search for the next knife that will be THE knife, that's the excitement of the hobby. I have plenty of knives on my wish list and I'm sure there will be more to chase in the future.

I have had many 'plateau'-like feelings of "Wow, I'm not worthy of this knife!" over the years. Many years back, my first Buck 110 was the reason - and again, a few years back, when I got this beauty from Buck's Custom Shop:

002-6.jpg

Yep, the 110 was 'it' twice in my life. I've added two CRKs and some nice ZTs and Bokers since then, but they pail in comparison to the glee carrying that teardrop Damascus 110 still produces. Then there was yesterday. I met Mel Pardue, the designer for Benchmade, at the local knife emporium(Mark's Outdoors) in Birmingham - he had finished a knife for me the night before, driven up yesterday AM, and was delivering several more of his knives and brought mine with him. I can't afford a kilobuck custom knife - but I could afford to say good-bye to a benchrest .22 - so we traded, as planned. I finally had acquired a knife that won't get carried - it is indeed 'too nice to tote'. It's like the one on page four of his site, just change the scales to matched mammoth ivory! My light source isn't up - looks like rain this AM - but you can be assured pictures will follow. This is some plateau!

I actually believe I have found the one knife . . . for the mid-sized fixed blade range. i mean come on, there isn't a "one" knife for all types, thats just impossible. anyways, mine is a Blackhawk! Gideon Tanto. It is absolutely perfect for me: Curved downward handle that is lightly textured with G10 while having finger grooves, 3/16ths TiAlN coating, with a masterfully designed tanto blade (hollow ground on the main part of the blade and flat ground for the point part, plus none of the cutting edges are straight, they are all slightly curved), has an adequate finger guard and a good thumb rest, along with a lanyard hole and the Busse "front guard hole" and not to mention features like a spike on the butt of the knife, a full tang, a ballistics nylon sheath that fully supports upside down vertical carry without the annoying nylon strap and snap securing fasteners, plus it comes with all the necessary hardware and spare parts to to mount however you like on any system and it comes in the tried and proven AUS-8A SS. Not the best out there as we all know, but for about a $00, this is about as good as it gets . . . so yes, I do believe I have found the perfect knife . . . and I am incredibly happy. It took quite a few years of searching and waiting for it to come along, but here it is . . . amd I am quite pleased =] . . . however . . . as for all the other million other categories of knives . . . God help me . . . =]
