Who has found THE knife?

Very cool thread, I was 12 when this started! :D

The one for me is my Custom Spearpoint ground XM18 3.5'

Fro day to day carry and general use, I seemed to have settled on one one my Hinderers, a 3" slicer grind flipper. It'll never be my only knife, and if I redeploy I'll switch back to a larger Hinderer. But for now, I don't think I can beat this one.

My "one(s)" would be something simple like my Uncle Henry Stockman, along with some modern folder and at least one fixed blade. I have yet to find a knife with a well designed blade and handle, quality materials throughout, and with a good lock (can't stand frame/liner locks). A small fixed blade would probably be best, as I could avoid the problem of lock type completely. Well, I guess I have a few decades or so to find "the one".

Until either a Hinderer, Sebenza, Or Strider land in my pocket one day,
This guy will be safe with me for a loooooong time I can tell.
It's been months and I'm still content.
It does it all. It handles EDC, woods-use, not scary, nice metal handles, good weight, ETC.

I hear ya, a SAK like that also rides everyday in my front pocket, along with a SAK Executive as well, hard to beat the handiness of those knives.
And it's strange, I've owned quite a lot of them over the years and I can't recall any of them with blade play, they have really got that down very well don't they!

Gary,

It's bittersweet seeing old threads like this resurrected. I enjoy seeing how tastes have changed over the years, but it also makes me sad how many fellow forumites have left us as well. I can say that I've found "the one" several times. And probably will find it several more times! :D

SAK's are probably the one I can't live without. All my other fancy ones put together still don't approach the functionality of Victorinox. Love them.

Thank you again for the streamlight, not only is it part of my EDC, but also many of my family and friends enjoy it as well! Great stuff!

My "ideal" knife depends on what i'm doing.

In the kitchen, I have a few I find indispensible.

Tojiro Aogami Super Deba, Fujiwara Carbon Gyuto, Fujiwara Stainless Petty, Shun 3.5" Pairing knife. I can do anything I could possibly want to do with these 4 knives.

EDC? I carry 2 knives all the time. A small BHK fixed blade (don't even remember the name of it, but it's perfect for me) and a tenacious.

I love knives, but I am happy using the ones I have. I use them until I wear them out, and then I purchase new ones.

Every time I get a new knife it is ''the knife''. Sometimes for a few hours, weeks or months.

Bingo. No play in any tool after my months of use and abuse. Or rust.

when it comes to modern folders, i sincerely believe the spyderco titanium military has everything i could ever want: nice titanium furniture, an s30v blade that, heaven knows is no slouch, and a lockup and fit&finish that puts it close to those costing more than twice as much. here's a forumer's picture of his:

bf_ti_millio

one knife i still have to get will satisfy me with regard to slipjoints: a GEC #73 scout trapper with end-cap and jigged bone.

My Grail hasn't arrived yet, but it's in the mail. The Spyderco Brad Southard Flipper. It's the first flipper that Spyderco has ever produced, and is available now in very limited quantities. It's light at 4.20 ounces, has a 3.45" blade of CTS-204P super-steel, and is a liner-lock of titanium and G10 handle. The blade opens on a captive ball-bearing pivot system and utilizes a Reeve Integral Lock. It sounds like a winning combination to me.

I've never even seen that, nor do I know what it looks like, and I like it just from the description. :D
Guess who's gonna look it up now? This guy.

For me, THE ONE is a Spyderco Military in G10 and ol S30V. Large pointy and slicy blade, extra long, super comfortable handle, strong lock up, amazingly lightweight, rides like a dream in my pocket due to its thin profile and perfect clip, and rapid deployment from tip down and spydie hole. Not to mention you can get all this 2nd hand for around $100. Yes please!

Like yourself, I thought a Sebenza would do it for me. Not so. Then I started looking at Hinderers. Glad I never had to buy one. One thing I have learned is that spending more money in search of THE ONE is not necessary.

I will also add, that even though I have found my ONE, it has not stopped me from buying more knives. I have slowed way down however, and I am now extremely picky about what I let into my collection. The knives I now buy, I buy only because they are cool. Not because I think they might be better than the Military, but only because I think I would enjoy carrying and using them in rotation with my Military.

I really do think I am lucky to have found my ONE, and I would say that it is out there. Don't give up on your search. Just remember to keep an open mind. Be honest with yourself. You never what you ONE might be. It could be something you never thought you would like, but then you get your hands on it and everything becomes right in the world.

Sure:
The Mid-Tech: CRK Large Sebenza
The Custom - Curtiss Nano
The Gentleman's Folder - Spyderco Air
The Production - Spyderco Chokwe

The list goes on though. And I continue buying knives lol.
I just love knives. But as far as THE one that I EDC every day and that I just can't get over, the Sebenza. I could stop at the Sebenza and be set for life, but I love knives, so I buy more.

My wife and my bank account would be happy if I could find "The One". I'm not holding my breath though as the grass is always greener....

Honestly, I'm satisfied with my Sebenza. Now I'm focused on finding the best pair of knives. The Sebenza paired with a SAK Pioneer work pretty well so far

Well I havent had the pleasure of handling or owning most high end knives. The most expensive knife I own is a ZT 0560. I considered it as a grail of sorts because of price and it was my first Ti framelock (still on the low end of the spectrum in the big picture, but a big step up from my others) and it is an awesome knife. It is a tank and I love it. It sees decent pocket time. BUT

The one for me (EDC) is the Paramilitary 2. If you consider all the customs, its far on the low end of the price range. But its perfect. Size, grind, blade shape, lock, everything. Nothing else can hardly kick it out of my pocket. I like it so much that I got a the CTS-XHP sprint run.

Of course, Ill still keep buying folders. :D
