Who has found THE knife?

I have found the one for edc Yuna Eq2 with zdp ats laminate blade. But then I decided to get a eq1(different blade shape) while I was at it I got more knives from him so I would say no I haven't really found the one. I doubt I ever will. To me it's like any addiction/obsession. I could have all the best knives from all the best makers and it wouldn't be enough to satisy the obsession.

When it comes to one-hand EDC Case's CV Trapperlock is my ONE, Case did an excellent job on the CV and everything else about this knife is perfect. Not only that but the trapperlock is easily replaceable, which is something I look for in a main (read: from opening letters to Hard Use) EDC. Now, for fixed blades or slippies? The jury's still out there, but I have a feeling the slippie would be a GEC or Queen.

It's been over 10 years since I started this thread, wow, time, friend or foe?

Reading down through the posts there are a few friends that are no longer with us, Time takes it's toll for sure... :(

I have to say, I'm still not settled on any one knife yet, in fact, a new one is on pre-order now that I have high hopes for, the Spyderco Southard flipper, looks like it may fit the bill, but then, I always have that in mind when I place the order. In the mean time, a Spyderco PPT has been filling my right front pocket and a Spyderco Pingo kitty cornerwise, both very nice knives.

So with a cheerful thought I hope some of you guys/gals have finally settled on a knife but, if you had, you'd probably not be reading a knife forum :)

Happy Holidays from the Graley family folks!

I found mine recently, a prototype Richard Derespina Karambit. This is my one, and I never even knew I was looking for it until I found it for sale. It's just....wonderful. Everything about it just "clicks" with me, I dunno how to describe it.

I wish I could mate my old Benchmade AFCK M2HSS and my Al Mar SERE 2000. Of all the knives I have owned over the years, these are the ones I keep going back to. Sure I have knives for other uses, but these two are my only two regular EDC knives. I hope I never have to replace that AFCK, they are getting expensive.

My favorite knives ( read... most useful) are by far not my coolest.

Fixed blades: Spyderco Moran in VG-10. Perfect sized fixed blade for most tasks , great belly, good edge retention and a fantastic cutter. On the slightly larger side I really like my Busse SAR5 although it's a slightly less efficient cutter.

Folders: The champ remains the Spyderco Military. There are a lot of cool folders but this, to me, is the best folder I've ever owned.

I found it and locked it away, because I'm afraid to loose it.
Meanwhile a Sebenza fit's the bill.

PS: Reality is, there is not the "one knife", simply because one can allways imagine another task or attribute, which this one was not made for.
I try to compensate with multiple carry.

While I love my small sebenza, I guess I could say I found "the one" in my green beret. I definitely dont need such an overbuilt combat knife, but no other knife gives me as much enjoyment to simply handle and admire. Havent cut anything other than paper and cardboard with it yet, but it's sitting right next to my keyboard.

Nice, Gary! I'm not sure why I never posted on this way back when. Probably 'cause I would have said "Sebenza!" At this point there are many knives that "look" like "the one" but are $1K+ but I still just can't justify that. For me there is room for THREE "the ones". One Sm folder, one Lg folder & one sm/med fixed. I've had those roles "filled" once or twice over the years but not currently.

As far as folding knives go, I still base everything off of the Sebenza. For me to pay more it has to offer a LOT more. Alas, I have three current "the ones".

1. NICEST "The One"
1. OVERALL BEST "The One"
1. MY FAV. "The One"

And (currently) they are:
1. Shirogorov 95 Hati
1. Sebenza 21
1. Strider SnG

I've been from Cold Steel to Hinderer, and everything inbetween. There ain't no such animal. The two closest are the Sebenza and the PM2. They are quite close.

I actually think I found my "the knife (knives)" I have a BK9 for outdoors/hacking down trees, a CRK Insingo sebenza with micarta inlays for my EDC and a Spyderdco Paramilitary 2 for those days I don't carry the Sebenza. I still think about others, specifically the Spyderco Gayle Bradley that I sold but I think I am set for now.

what a great thread, you can see it follow the ups and downs of you collectors and users over the last 10 years, and if I glean anything from this, it's that no matter how satisfied you are with a knife, your never totally satisfied with a knife!! What have I gotten myself into???

Right now I can't see anything coming close to my new Hinderer XM 24, but by the sounds of things, in 10 years will I still feel the same?? Hope this thread is still here then.

It's been about 7 years since I last posted in this thread. Things haven't changed a whole lot. My "ONE" knife was the Microtech LLC D/A, and it's still one of my favorites, but it doesn't get carried much anymore. Most likely candidates for favorite go to Kershaw's 3600 Volt in M390 Composite blade, the new 2012 GEC Bladeforums Traditional Trapper with clip and wharncliff blades in 1095, and the Tony Bose/Case collaboration of 2012, the Lanny's Clip in chestnut bone and 154CM.

Tried and true knives that hold a place in my heart, A. G. Russell Gent's linerlock in ATS-34 and burl/titanium handles, and the Benchmade 730CFHS.

I also have a Spyderco Southard on the way. I don't think there ever can be a ONE knife unless a person has a shift in focus on their hobby. The solution: start buying guns, then the last knife you bought will end up being the ONE.

How you deal with your gun buying habit is a whole different issue.

:D

Oh man, does this this thread hit home for me. G2, I think you mentioned something on pg 1 or so about telling your wife, "this is it!" I really know the feeling on that one. I haven't been collecting for too many yrs, but I'm still on the "hunt" for the "one." From all the responses on here, I think we're all insane:eek:

Hehe, I call it the Steel virus, of which there is no cure in sight, if it's not a NEW style knife, then it's a NEW type of STEEL for the very same knife you love, it really doesn't seem to stop !
all in all, I could think of far worse addictions!
