I have found a few of the ones for me. Field knife is a Busse NO-E in a Kenny Rowe middle of the back sheath. EDC is a Spyderco Walker lightweight with an Atwood prybaby. Small belt knife is a Buck Mini Alpha Hunter. And if I have a pack on there is Gransfors Bruks mini hatchet in it.

Great favorites and stories to go with them.

The knife for me? I own a few and they are all "the knives" in my pointed little head that are the knives in my collection.

.

There is the first Chris Reeve Knife.

There is the first Dozier.

You have the first Reeve knife he made? The First Dozier?

Pictures please!!!!!!!

Might want to read my post again. :)

The first pertains to "the knives" in my pointed little head that are the knives in my collection.

BM 805, SAK Rambler, Spyderco Dragonfly...nope, can't pick just one, but it's usually two of the above three.

I've bought other fixed blades since this one, but there is something about it that I keep coming back to. It fits my hand perfectly. Of all the FBs I have this one always ends up on my belt. I wear it vertically at 4-5 o'clock.

It's a Greg Lightfoot Companion in Damasteel and Elk Antler. It measures 7" overall and came with a Kydex sheath covered in Sharkskin, with a Teklok. I'm not a hard user but it has done what I've asked of it so far.

This thread has leaned toward custom folders and I have none. However I do have some solid production folders. I guess for me, THE folder would be either a REKAT Carnivoure or a newly purchased Ontario RAT folder. Both are ruggen knives and lock up tight. I think I'm leaning toward the RAT folder because it's a bit lighter and it has a very comfortable finger choil.

My real passion however is small fixed blades for EDC. I find myself going back and forth between a Dozier Agent in D2, of course, and a Ken Brock's Combat Option in S30V. Both are literal razors and carry well. I should add that when I consider THE small fixed blade, I consider the sheath as being half the system. Dozier's horizontal carry Kydex belt sheath is really great.

I'm hoping Santa will deliver another THE knife this year.

Hey Peregrin. Your Lightfoot Companion sure looks a great THE knive to me. Beautiful!

Willieboy - I like the looks of those two. Before I got that Lightfoot the one that found it's way to my belt most often was a Dozier Modified Personal. Mine is in Ironwood. Photo is from A.G.Russell's site (not sure if these are still available but it's a helluva nice knife).

Howdy...
I have a very hefty collection of "The Ones" as you call them. Mostly Spyderco Brand. I have very good luck with these production knives and I still enjoy them very much. I have Kershaw's and CRKT's Buck's, most all the well made brand names as well as a Bradley and Extrema Ratio. Then I got nuts and bought a Strider (AR). And That WAS "THE ONE". for a few months anyway. Then some Carbon Fiber Spyderco Para Military knives showed up for sale and a couple of them became "The One". But there is an end to this nightmare. Many months ago I came across a Lone Wolf T1 Harsey w/Carbon Fiber Scales and partially Serrated S30V SpearPoint Blade. It's not always the most Expensive or most Beautiful item that holds your attention. Often it's "The One" That just feels good every time you pick it up. I have worn out several pants pocket edges because I am constantly removing the Harsey to hold it and flip it open then feel the "click" when closing it. So, for now I have "The One" and have passed up some great deals as of late because I feel at this time my needs in the EDC Knife area are fullfilled. Contact me in a few months and ask again... Even I would be interested as the outcome of that Question! Thanks for listening... ~baba~

Peregrin, I like the Modified Personal too. There is another Dozier in my future and that may be the one. Another line of knives I've been looking at lately is Bark River Knife and Tool. Numerous designs handle material choices. I've neverheard a negative statement about the Barkies.

Who knows about THE knife, but I have found the one maker who's designs are by far my favorites.

Warren Osborne

While I don't own any of his actual custom work (yet) His Benchmade models are what does it for me. I own a fair number and will have more.

The ones I have

943
Switchback
Infidel
156 CSK

The 943 was what got me addicted to knives. (yah yah I haven't been at it that long)

Started this thread a long time ago, and as usual, things change, rapidly sometimes!

Today, maybe we should just go by the day eh? Today my EDC consists
of two knives, complimenting each other as one knife doesn't seem to do
the trick for all chores, not counting the SAK's and such as I view those
as more like tools than knives.

I've a new custom buck 110 straight from the Buck custom shop, care of
a raffle done recently within the Buck forums of BladeForums, and this
cuts quite well, very well indeed!

Check Here for more images of this knife;

The other knife I have rides low on it's round rod clip, a Spyderco UKpen knife
a slip joint with solid detents and just under 3" blade, no images of that right now.

So, TODAY, these are the two that I ride about town with :)

If I had to pick out one knife, I think this Buck Mayo would be it. I carried it for ~3.5yrs.

I had no intentions of buying anything else, but the Benchmade Model 635-60 really caught my eye. Couldn't justify the price on a whim though, so I bought the Model 635.

I've been carrying it since September.

I think I am afflicted with the same condition of never finding THE knife. I think there is no one single knife for all occasions. As many of them as I buy and use though, if I had to leave my house today with just one knife in my pocket it would still be my Benchmade 940 Osborne. It is truly beautiful and functional, and very dependable. It doesn't do everything perfectly, but it does most things very well. I have to admit I am sentimentally attached to it also. I received it as a gift back in the days when to me a knife that cost more than $40 was absurd. You would have thought I had Excaliber in my pocket. The blade shape is strong, and very useful. The axis lock keeps my fingers out of the way of the blade. I have taken it out of my pocket, flicked it open, and reinserted it so many times that the muscle memory in my right hand knows what's going on without even having to think about it. It's lightweight, and slender. I can hold it on one finger balanced. When I got it I could not believe someone would spend so much money to see my face light up by getting an item like this. Now, from a knife collector perspective, it is a serious knife, but God forbid something happen to it, it is possible to simply go buy a new one, unlike some custom knives. I hope I have not rambled too much, as my goal was to simply share a fondness for this particular knife. For me, it's the one.

That's where I'm at right now too. I have a few nice customs left, but they just sit in the safe. Part of the equation is that they're "too expensive to use", but mostly the reason I don't carry a custom is because they're too hard to replace.

I've got a nice Strider SnG (not inexpensive) I used and carried for a while. Didn't really worry about it. Stopped carrying it because it's not lefty-friendly.

I may try a Surefire Delta folder at some point.
