Who has found THE knife?

Michael_Aos, I was glad you replied. I figured I wasn't alone in that thought. If a razor sharp knife is at home in the gunsafe, it won't do you much good. Doesn't mean I don't want one, it just means I have to carry something that is (wipes tear) expendable. Having to replace a custom knife doesn't sound very functional. I am gaining some confidence though now and knowing my limits. My 940 Osborne can be had for, give or take, $125. I've looked at Striders, and Sebenzas, and some Rick Hinderer customs. I might get away with carrying a knife in that price range, but would probably carefully consider what I might end up doing that day. I would love to know how that Surefire knife works out. I looked at one the other day. I have had terrible luck with their flashlights but maybe the knife will be awesome.

Got my THE knife last week. The Cherusker Messer Lapu Lapu Corto. This is the Spyderco Gubting on Steroids. Everything I wanted. 3 inch blade, 5 inch crazy ergonimic handle. Able to open kinetically and strong enough to be used as an EDC.

It's like the mathamatical concept of successive aproximation , the values you plug in get better over time but can never be 100% correct .

Here's my latest "THE knife". I do hope this one satisfies the need for awhile!

I started with large combat knives, working up to a Randall #14. Settled for a Camp Tramp in a Bladetech Kydex sheath so I would actually use it, and for a 7", it does all I want. I can dig for worms fishing with my boy, not worrying about the collector value.

I've been looking for the perfect pocket knife for about 30 years. Started with a Gerber LST. Great knife, too small. Discovered clips, worked through Spydercos up to the latest Military PE, CRKT's up through the M16 Ti, CF and M1-13k. Kershaws - Boa and Vapor II.
And I kept bumping up against excess is some form or another. I just wanted a midsized, 3 1/2 blade, good steel like S30V, flat ground and drip point for best all around utility use. I wanted a reliable lock - I understand why some folks prefer a small straight knife now after experiences with liner locks. I needed a tough, durable handle material, and I wanted leading tech construction proven to work.

I have tried to test drive a cheap copy for ergonomics. That might be the only justification to buy a lookalike, but it did help. It also sorts out why the cheapy is a waste of money in and of itself, as certain design requirements will be left on the accounting room floor!

So after all the years of looking, I came across a drop point oval hole opener framelock with G10 and titanium construction, mid size, clipped, and rugged as I want. It came yesterday and certainly pointed out the differences between an original and copy, authorized or not. And I can customize it through the maker as time goes by, or do it myself, to keep it The One.

When you look for the specifics, let them lead you to the knife. I now have a Ranger Green Gen 6 Strider SnG for my EDC.

Never knew I would do that.

My search lead me to the SnG also. Unfortunately I didn't consider tip-up carry with a non-reversible clip.

What do you think of that Buck Strider? Is it worth the $$$?

I paid $55.99 for mine.

I'd have to say no, it's not worth it compared to other knives in that price-range. I paid $56.25 for a BM555GY-600 (Benchmade Mini-Griptillian Gray PE LE), for example, and it is much nicer.

The plastic scales on the Buck make it really thick. There isn't much usable blade relative to the size of the knife. It's heavy and bulky. I'm sure the liner-lock is functional enough, but it looks thin and wimpy.

It just feels cheap.

Wow that's an eye opener for me. I really planned on getting the model with the ATS-34 blade. The other option in that price range was the Kershaw Blur with S30V blade. How about the Strider knife?

At more than twice the retail price, the 882SBTG CMT Police Knife should be a lot nicer than the 889CM SBMF. I haven't seen one in person.

I've decided I don't like thumb-studs, so I haven't looked at the Blur.

The Strider SnG is noticeably thinner and lighter (.6oz). The blade size and shape is similar.

I like the Strider SnG in general, but I really wish the pocket-clip was reversible.

My Kershaw Deerhunter I bought years ago (do they still make that model?). I've bought a number of knives since then , but camping or hunting, it's the one always hanging at my side! I just buy others from timt to time because I can, but never as a replacement!

I found it just this past week. The new Minu Rukus. :D
Yeah right! Its 'the knife' for this week. The week before that it was the Zero Tolerance 301, then the Zero Tolerance 200, preceded by the Emerson CQC14, then the Spyderco Calypso III, then the HK 34.

I've found "the knife" so many times in my life that I can't see straight, but I do sit straight because my wallet is so thin I don't even know its there.

What didn't you like about the Zero Tolerance knives?

Mike I love the ZT knives. I didn't mean to sound like I don't like all the ones I mentioned. I actually loaned out my 301 to a friend that wanted to see it and miss it terribly. The 200 is one of my all time favorite liner locks and perhaps the best one I've ever seen in a production folder. Its a toss up between it and the Hossom Retributions but I like the handle much better on the ZTs over Jerry's knives by Ontario. I also like the blade better.

I think the ZTs are grand slam home runs in tactical folders but the mini Rukus should be here tomorrow. I look forward to Waving that one so I suspect the double thumb stud will be replaced with a single and one of my pocket hooks to Wave it open by mid afternoon tomorrow if it arrives as I hope. :D

The search has ended for my perfect EDC slipjoint. Picked this sweet Schrade swell end jack up on the Russell 'cutting edge' site. Carbon steel blade with bone stag, model 1253. Probably made over 70 years ago. Salesman sample. Has model number etched on the other side of the blade. I think it is just 'swell'!

If you found "THE knife" that this thread is about, it's mine. I lost it last year while I was on a recycling drive for used toilet seats. It's really cool (hence the name: THE knife), so I'd really appriciate it if you returned it.
Thank you,
Michaelmcgo
