Who has found THE knife?

I'm sure this has been asked already but "THE" knife for what? Field dressing big game? Skinning? Dressing a bird? Cleaning and scaling a fish? Sailing? Carving? Camping? Survival? Self defense? Concealed carry? Rescue? Military duty?

No such thing as "THE" knife. It's like "THE" car. It works great until you find something it doesn't do as well and you would like. Then it's "off to the races", looking for another one (knife or car).

I enjoy and use all 60 or so of my "THE" knives.

Bringing life to old threads, always a bit interesting to see how things have
changed over the years! and bladeprince, that's a true statement The knife
for which purpose? I'd still like to think there would be one that covers most
chores and does it well, right now I'm toting the Spyderco Carbon Fiber Stretch
with ZDP-189 also a small fixed blade by Tim Wright, now that may be the
one too, time will tell, as it always does.

So, lets hear from old folks that already posted, maybe they finally did find their grail knife?
and hear from some new folks, perhaps this thread will spark some interest in this search.

Convexed Model 8 by Dan Crotts. I haven't found a knife that better suits my needs as an EDC.

I've found "the one" it's called the Skeletool cx. It functions just like a good folder clipped in my pocket yet it's so much more than any regular knife can be.
That doesn't mean I don't want other knives but one would be hard pressed to replace the skeletool for EDC.

I have thought that I had found "THE" knife, but alas, I am still searching. I thought that the Scott Sawby C/U was "THE" knife, but it is tip down carry. I dunno, it is always something. I am thinking that the Mini Pocket Rocket might be "THE" knife.

The one for me is an Emerson CQC-6. Yes I continue to pick up other knives but they are mostly to fill a collection. I could sell virtually every other knife I have and would be more than happy with my 6.

The one and only is a Large double lug micarta 21....

But right now I'm "cheating" with a Umnumzaan :D

I need four 'the' knives, one for each of these categories:

Hunting knife: Dozier Buffalo River Hunter

Heavy use fixed blade: Scrapyard Infi Scrapper 5

Small slipjoint folder: I have at least a dozen that suit me just fine

Sport utility folder: currently alternating between a Manix 2 CF and Titanium Sage II. This is the one area where I'm still searching for the perfect knife. THe Manix 2 comes very close, but I wish it were just a hair longer.

Probably the old Spyderco Endura (pointy tip, no liners) for EDC. Just fits my hand perfectly. The blade is just the right size for me. Not too big, not too small. Didn't buy another folder for about 20 years or whatever it's been. For a good beater fixed blade I like the D2 Rat-7. Simple design, good edge, right size for me. I've got some more expensive contingency knives, but these are my fav users.

Thought I had it with the Spyderco Native. Then came the simple Case Sodbuster. Now the Queen Congress in D2. What I'd really like is a Buck 110 in ZDP189 with a fully adjustable blade that goes from 2 inches to normal length. Thumb stud would pop out only when needed. Otherwise, it would be a nail nick. G-10 stag, please, as long as I'm asking.

In the 3" range I have the ZDP-189 Spyderco Caly 3. I have no desire to replace it, the handle is as comfortable as anything out there, the blade is shaped for purely for cutting and the steel is the best you'll ever find.
It is the best.
And I'm pretty sure the Spyderco Military is the ultimate regular sized folder.

Now all I have to do is find the best large folder, medium sized fixed blade, and large fixed blade.

How can I ever find that which does not exist?

As you can see from my signature line, I seek the blade so incredible that it can be used to kill a jabberwocky. The ultimate blade with the following characteristics:
- takes an edge that can cut a cloud in two
- takes that edge with no effort
- holds it forever no matter what I cut or chop with it.
- Fits my hand perfectly
- has perfect balance
- is so elegant that baring it will not scare the most timid of the blade challenged.

Since no such blade can ever exist, the ultimate blade can never be found.

But it's fun to keep looking.:D

i could live with (and be perfectly happy) with any of the following 3 knives as my only knife, i have ~ 80 or so knives right now and these 3 are pretty much all i ever carry.

*spyderco Ti ATR PE - the SS ones are "ok" too but the Ti ones are imho the best production folder ever offered, thin and easy to carry, lite, excellent F&F, excellent materials (S30V and Ti), excellent lock, i even like the cobra hood thingie and the pocket clip which some seem not to.

* emerson custom specwar CQC13 - excellent ergo's, its what i edc most of the time.

*EKI CQC12 - certainly the best production emerson with the frame lock, i also like the blade and the handle is very secure like all EKI's.

I think its very unlikely to me find THE knife from the production knives but I need custom to come closer to the knife!

Junkyard Dog II Composite seems to be quite close of my the knife: Excellent blade, relatively small, hard use and build like a tank.

I am extremely content with my kit right now, I have an RC5 and Koyote Leuku for outdoorsy stuff and my DPx HEST for EDC. I have all my bases covered right now so I won't be buying anything soon unless I get a job.

Well I haven't found THE knife but found THE way to carry it ;) Since my first pancake I simply can't carry a knife in a different way.

I haven't found my perfect knife and I really doubt it exists but these are my favorites. I think the closest to perfection is Combat Elite but (I don't know why) RCC is the one carried most often. I also adore the design of Millie and ATR Ti.

Collecting knives is like having sex; you have to get kinkier and kinkier to feel anything at all.

Never having seen this thread before, I find it interesting how I have lusted for - and bought - many of the examples cited here. Still, I guess the quest continues.

I have found contentment in several areas:

Larger fb: RAT Cutlery RC-5
Medium fb: BRK&T Gameskeeper
Small fb: Buck 005 series 'Gen5'

Large Folder: BM 610 Rukus or 630 Skirmish
Medium Folder: Custom Buck 110 - BG-42/Micarta
Small Folder: Spyderco S30V Native

Slippie: Boker Tree Brand Classic Trapper

Multi-tool: Victorinox Farmer

Now, for a one favorite, ie, 'The One', I guess the Custom Buck 110. Or... my jigged/fg-ed water buffalo handled BG-42 Custom 110? What of the flaming koa & teardrop Damascus 110? Hmmm, that Kershaw JYDII in Ti/SG-2 is nice... so is that BM 635 mini-Skirmish. My BM 710 D2 is utilitarian. I like the Stockman slippies - Boker and Buck. My Barkie Bocote Boone is both a looker and a user.

Never mind... I really am a knife slut. Another 'gotta have', aka 'The One', is being reviewed here somewhere... Next??
