Who has some O1 goodness to share?

A couple of these knives look familiar...:D

On the topic of O1, JK.

Top one is a JK camp knife and bottom is the lil tops turley 23 along with a JK fire kit knife.

Was searching for a pic of my JK EDC along with a really nice sheath mykel m made for it. One of my most used and least pics taken I suppose.

Burt Foster Darkside in 01 and 15N20

Burt Foster Personal in 01 and 15N20

Those are two of my favorite knives ever shown in this forum; I'd never put together that they were both Burt Fosters (and: Burt Foster's). How about that.

Have you guys noticed that O1 doesn't get the wild blues and purples?

Have you been feeding yours beef?

My THK Strix in O1, brand new and fresh from a beef birthday dinner:

(The blue and purple didn't stay, but neither has the blade tasted much beef since its arrival.)

I love O1. I have a couple of blades in it.

Even though it will rust if you look at it wrong, I use it a lot on the coast and as long as it's taken care of it will work beautifully.

The only knife in O1 I own is the GEC Bullnose. I´m really pleased with this steel. It takes a great edge and keeps it pretty long.

This knife was gift from Sarah :)

I'm glad I could clear that up for you, Sarah. I feel very fortunate to own and carry these two. Burt is a master of his craft, literally.

I love O1. I have a Randal 1-7 in it. I also used and tested my test run bullnose with O1.

This gift to me by Burnside is also O1

I reprofiled this one VERY thin and it is good and strong and holds an insanely sharp edge. Love the stuff.

and this (JK Broken EWOK)

and this (JK EDC Kephart)

if JK Knives and 01 ever have a falling out I'd be in a tight spot :p

Keeping with the fixed blade O1 show..... Although, I love GEC's O1 on the farm and field tool.

My Bryan Breeden Lord Greystoke, and my Redneck Bullnose. I think these are my only O1 knives.

O1 has interested me since I first heard of it here. The patina-forming and toughness properties would make for a great smaller fixed blade that I could enjoy using for outdoor activities. These great pictures are not helping to diminish my interest in getting one.

So many wonderful knives in this thread.

O1 is one of my favorites, but I have to wonder why there are so few folders out there in this great steel? I would love to see more offerings.

I have wondered that too. I think that 1095 is just so cheap and easy to use for mass production that most manufacturers use it over O1. That just leaves custom makers to get O1 and a majority of people want some type of stainless on their customs. IMO, O1 is a very under-rated and underused steel.

Here is an interesting bit of info on O1. At 63 RC it scores as high on the Charpy scale as it does at 58 RC. The Charpy test is one way to measure impact resistance, or one form of toughness. Now, while I would make a big chopping knife out of O1, I would still keep it at around 58 because the Charpy scale is only one form of measuring toughness. But on a folder I try to hit 62-63 RC. That translates into better edge holding ability and is still just as tough. Hopefully Jeff can confirm that through his use. I believe his was at about 62-62.5 RC.

That is why I think it is very under-rated.
