Who hunts and uses a slingshot for survival?

You guys are right about only braced slingshots being illegal in NY but as far as I know, and I've checked, all slingshots are illegal in Jersey. Our State greeting in the highways should read "Welcome to New Jersey, We're Retarded!"

This is what my research turned up:

Slingshots, slingshot ammo, and slingshot supplies, cannot be shipped to the following states, counties or cities:

Delaware: Dover & Wilmington
Florida: St. Augustine
Illinois: Evergreen Park
New Jersey
New York: Only wrist-braced slingshots are illegal.
Massachusetts
Minnesota: Duluth
Rhode Island
South Carolina: Charleston
Tennessee: Knoxville & Johnson City
Utah: Salt Lake County
Virginia: Falls Church

If you really want to see some videos and some talk about slinghots and them being used for hunting. Check out the USA Slingship Forum. Look under Slingshot News and there are a lot of posts with links to recent video. There are quite a few people who use them to fish, hunt small game, even some wild pig kills. There is a lot of information there. I have a Chief AJ HFX, I like and it is easy to pack around. When you get a Chief AJ modle they usually come with a CD telling you and showing you some tips on how to instictive shoot with it. If you have watched the TOP SHOT show on Discovery they had a shoot out with Slingshot with Chief AJ showing them how to shoot. http://talk.slingshots.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2396

Use to have Saunders Folding Falcon Wrist Rocket

but now homemade flatband slingshot

Madison is the man. Got one of his slingshots. Would love one of his archery sets, but I'm almost scared to ask the price.

I hunt, but don't have a "small game" weapon yet. I have been thinking about getting either a slingshot, or a Crosman 1377 classic pump pellet pistol to put in as my survival small game weapon. Just haven't decided which yet; probably a slingshot since they are cheaper, and quieter.

Only problem with slingshots is that the "brace-type slingshots" are illegal in NY.

this is what we carried from the 4th grade till the 7th in texas. you can get pretty good with practice & even round rocks can take small birds & rabbits. keep one by my b.o.b. one of our bunch that hunted with us in west tex. was a great champion. he could hit beer cans thrown in the air.

I keep a folding wrist-rocket in the bottom of my day pack. I took it out to try and get myself a gray squirrel or two for dinner the other day but I think they knew my intentions.
:D

Have one in all my gear bags and by each door in the house. I chase off raccoons, coyotes, rabbits and squirrels with them too.

Illegal in Jersey so I'm not even going to risk getting caught with one.

Yup, lived in two states in my life; Massachusetts and New Jersey. They're both convinced that the average person which make up 99% of legitimate weapons purchases are going to then turn around and rob convenient stores in their free time. Not to mention their fear of the slingshot, an American classic that practically every kid at one point had during the 20th century.

Funny I live in nj and I have a unbraced slingshot that I got from six flags a long time ago. I still have it somewhere around here. Hmm...

I used to have a Trumark, the folding wrist rocket one, but the band broke and I don't know what I did with it after... it probably got thrown out:(

It was a wicked slingshot, I'm probably gonna order another and get the black powerbands with it.

Thanks for all the replies. They are alot of fun to shoot. This is a funny story. Many years ago in the late 1980's we had a Chesapeake Bay retriever. I have a small piece of woods behind my house. I would shoot rocks into the air down in the woods and my dog would run and try to retrieve them. It got to the point where just the sight of the slingshot would get her all excited. Barking and ready to run to the woods.

Technically, in MA, you can not have a slung shot.

Try arguing that in court though.

the nice thing about NY penal law...

Politicians are just morons.

(1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun
gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal
knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles,
chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or
slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or

How in the hell can you ban something that doesn't exist?

"Electronic Dart Gun" is referring to a CIA-Manufactured device that fired an incredibly tiny dart and the Director at the time, in the mid-1970s, had one as an example of assassination technology during a Congressional Hearing on same.

Some balloonknot figured that Joey Baggadonutz down on the street corner in Crooklyn was going to obtain one.

"Chuka" sticks and "shirken" is even more stupid. They don't exist. There is no such thing as a "chuka stick" or a "shirken."

But I am sure that if you get caught with a shuriken or a pair of nunchaku, you're going to get nailed for having a "shirken" or "chuka stick."

The law should not be void for vagueness, but for ignorance and fearful paranoia.

What a cesspit.

I'm getting back into shooting my slingshot I've had for over 20 years. I plan to small game hunt with it and pack one as part of my gear. Anyone else use these as part of your survival gear? Madison Parker is big on the slingshot as a survival tool. I know he guides squirrel hunts using a slingshot.
Scott

I'm actually pretty good with one, or used to be anyway. I have a very old "Wrist Rocket" bought at a Hecks dept. store in my youth in the late 60s early 70s. Every now and then I put new bands on it. Used to use surgical tubing from the clinic I worked at back in the 80s. That was some good stuff! Just like with the bow I shoot left handed with it. I liked using it. Well, until it stings you good every now and again. Once you get good with it that happens rarely though. Used to hunt prairie dogs in Az. with it. Hunted squirrels and rabbits here with it a time or three. Mostly though, anymore I use it to chase off a stray dog in my back yard or a feral cat trying to mess with one of ours. Nothing to hurt them much you know, just a sting in the ass to chase em off quick! ;)
