Who hunts and uses a slingshot for survival?

That they do. I think I found me a new project over labor day in the woods. :D

Anyone know where to buy the bands?

I recently got me a Dankung Jungle Hunter to carry in my pack on hikes. Haven't used it for hunting yet, but have done a lot of plinking along the trails. Awesome little slingshot!

Something along those lines would be an awesome blacksmithing project!

well here is a pic of our new slingshots... from Tom of www.bunnybuster.com these are waaaay cool.. :) the 2 naturals are for my boys and are made from birch, the fork(middle) is made from 120 year old black walnut.. it is a beauty.

i have been shooting 3/8 ball bearings out of mine and the boys are shooting 1/4 ball bearings, out of theirs.. they're a blast to shoot...:D

Just ordered me one of these.

Id love to see ML or someone forge one. That would be sick. Little flint, and you have a striker too.

Jake, you might be on to something for the guys that forge. Maybe a new market for forged slingshots. :D

BTW, where did you get the Dankung Jungle Hunter? Never mind, found it.

Yeah, someone needs to get on that. I bet they would sell very well if the price was fair.

Actually I have had a idea for a forged stainless Milty-band slingshot for a while. I have been forging Stainless now for a few years. It won't work as a striker though. Only simple high carbon steels work for strikers.

Anyone know where to buy the bands?

typically you make your own bands for the more powerful slingshots.. thera-band black or gold are the most popular rubbers for flatbands. you'll need a rotary fabric cutter and a self healing surface, but you can make tons of bands out of a roll, and customize them to your personal strength and draw length.

otherwise, you can buy latex surgical tubing from a surgical supply store, or ebay. or dankung sells bulk rubber of different styles.

Why do you need special cutting tools?

cutting with scissors, or even a really sharp knife will cause the rubber to stretch and cause jagged edges. jagged edges lead to premature ripping of the bands, and that can be catastrophic(think a fully stretched out rubberband flinging straight into your eye). the rotary cutting tool rolls like a wheel and cuts with pressure while not stretching the rubber out.

Well, i found my old Trumark fs-1 wrist rocket today. Went out and picked up a Trumark heavy black band for it, but I gotta wait 24hrs for the alcohol used in mounting the bands to dry.

So in the mean time, what do you guys use for backyard targets and backstops? I live in the burbs, so i don't wanna shoot any of the neighbour kids eyes out. I was thinking a garbage can on it's side with some old blankets or something in the bottom?
