Who is going to be buying this baby?

Benchmade pisses me off when they make knives using the Spyderco thumb hole.

Ditto. I felt better about ones like the 806 where they at least change the shape of the hole a little bit. Still, we may be jumping to conclusions because I seem to recall that BM actually paid a licensing fee to Spyderco for the round hole on the original AFCK.

I like that it's an Axis-equipped Dejavoo, but the blade shape looks pretty dumb IMHO, and there's no reason for the handle to curve down like that. The hole opener also looks undersized compared to the blade.

Not sure what their design team was thinking on this one, could have been a very nice knife.

Maybe I'm being overly critical, no offense intended to anyone who really likes the knife! Just not my cup of tea, and I loved the looks of the Lum Dejavoo.

The banana-shaped handle is part of Bob Lum's Chinese designs IIRC. The Spyderco Lum Chinese has the same handle, and this knife is probably based on some kind of Chinese sword (dao) as mentioned above.

On the "hole" issue...I'm fine with it really. I like holes. The more the better. I wouldn't want, say, a Skirmish at all if it wasn't for the hole.

I will certainly be picking up one of these bad boys, IMO it has a 800/740 style handle look to it G10 scales, AXIS lock, nice blade whats not to like? Then again were talking about benchmade.... :D I know there will be people that will bash Benchmade for useing the holy grail "spydie hole" but seriously people need to quit there &^%$^%& and move on, its a great knife, great inovation and materials at a affortable prices with stellar customer service.. I guess thats why they remain number one in my book..

IMO Thats a sweet knife!! The first thing I noticed was the "hump" which will give my index finger a good place to sit. Helps me put more controlled force on the tip, looks well done too. I have a number of old school knives with curved handles (Schrade Sharp finger comes to mind) and their handles are very comfortable. Anyone know the name/model number and when it will be released?

BTW The round hole opening device in folders is no longer a registered trade mark of Spyderco. It expired some years ago and Spyderco desided not to renew it. Sal has no problem with other companies using it now. That information is in the Spyderco Subforum of Manufactures for all those intersted in reading it. :)

I think you got your wires crossed here, The Spyderco hole is still their registered trade mark. However the patent for the hole as an opening device expired some years ago.

Bo.

I saw the custom version and shed a little tear at the lost of Bob Lum and the fact that he wouldn't be around to make one for me in the future when I could afford it. When I saw this production version I did a little dance. I would have preferred a mono-lock, but the axis-lock is still awesome.

Several custom designers use the hole. Lum, Blackwood, and Anso to name a few if spyderco doesn't go and produce all the knives for that designer, then I don't fault BM for using the hole the knife was designed with. Spyder hole with the axis lock is probably my favorite combination. Now if we could only get spyderco to make a few knives with the axis lock instead of the sticky ball bearing deal I'd be in heaven (and in debt). I in general like spyderco's steel choices better.

i'd love a knife along those lines.

pity the politicians in Australia have decreed me and everyone else is not to be trusted with one.

I love Benchmade just not this model. Too big and awkward looking for me.

Ditto. I don't know what it is about his designs, but they appeal to me. I'd never really heard of him or his knives until after he passed away, but was saddened nonetheless when I found out.

I am not lashing out but I don't think many people realize this is a Bob Lum designed knife based on his Forester model. The blade shape and handle shape are very true to his original design along with the hole in the blade. When some of these critics calling the design ugly or stupid start designing knives that are hugely popular and valuable their criticism will be valid.
