Who made your favorite puukko?

Thanks for your insight. I guess there is no point of "re-inventing the knife" when all the nations near have great knife making traditions and you
ease of access to their cutlery.

Actually, the Danes always seemed to prefer to get their "cutlery" from places that already had established technology. This dates to well before the times when factories made knives, in fact the practice goes all the way back to the 9th century when Frankish made Carolingian swords became the weapon of choice of the Vikings. Access wasn't always easy either. There was a time when many places outlawed the practice of conveying such things to anybody who wasn't of Frankish origin, ie they tried to cut off the supply of weapons to the Vikings...

Nice puukko. I really like the tapered blade. I've tried (in vain) to get a puukko by him. :(

That's a dandy. If it is the same one up for sale this last week I got the other Malanika. Couldn't pay for both and have my favorite tamales too!

indeed it was. I think we were both lucky to be around when Mark posted that thread!!

My most highly prized puukko is the Tapio Wirkkala that I bought years ago out of the Brookstone catalog. I knew nothing about puukkot, I just thought it was a really nice piece of design. Even though it accompanied me on a lot of motorcycle trips over the years, it was spared the gasket-scraping and other mechanical tasks iI left to my Anza, so it isn’t beaten up too badly.
I have a Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack, and the Jakkaripuukko, but no really nice traditional puukkos. I have yet to take the time to get to know some of these makers and figure out what I really want.

Henry Beige Henry Beige , I remember drooling over those knives in them catalogs, always wanted one but was younger then and they were out of my price range. Fast forward many years and my interest was again piqued, but they were rare as hens teeth. A very generous forum member here saw a post from me about what knife is a holy grail...and he gifted me the small Tapio Wirkkala! I was blown away. A few years later, I was at a laundromat washing an oversize comforter, and to kill time wandered into a pawn shop in the same strip...and there it was, a really gently used large version! The owner knew it's worth and it was priced accordingly. I didn't care, I just had to have it.

(looks like I cannot upload a file anymore :( ) edit...let's see if this works

I've only had this one for a few months now and it is my first and only puukko style knife. It was made by G Knives, an American knife maker.
Has osage and antler handle with pewter trim and right now I'm drawing a blank on what blade steel the maker indicated was used. I made the belt sheath in the pic from leather and whitetail deer inner leg hide. I'm very pleased with the knife, quite comfortable to use and has a sharp blade.
Taking it camping soon.:)

These are puukkos I made from March to September 2020. There are seven more not in the group photo. I own a Malanika, which I use when carving the wooden insert for the sheaths I make. My favorite craftsman, that's hard to say. For now I am easy to afford.

Those are splendid hawkhead hawkhead  For some reason I favor all those on the right side. Might be a photo illusion or those are your newest and most refined. ;) In any case, a beautiful body of work.

I should probably have a puukko. I'm half Finn on my mom's side. I do have a Rapala hunting knife with a blade by J. Marttiini that I like though, even if it's not quite a puukko.
