I know your quite handy with carving furniture and machining things, when did you make the crack pipe you obviously have been smoking?

:D

Ill be doing a batch of Bushcrafts and have 3 I think at the bladeshow in Atlanta this year.

Brian Andrews makes a nice http://http://offthemapoutfitters.com/product.sc?categoryId=28&productId=97please buy it before I do. He also has 15% off his JK knives and is a great guy to deal with. I just got a bushcraft noth west 01 in the mail. Havent used it yet but the fit and finish is incredible. Feels like a mora #1 on steroids. There is alo a koster for sale in the exchang section. All of these are fine knives and will serve you well. Happy hunting.

No kidding, I'd snatch that Brian Andrews up just to have a backup for myself!!

Please do put up some pics and a review of that 'Bushcraft Northwest" blade, I've seen those before and was very attracted to the design.

Spooky, no problem, I will post some in use pics soon. Started raining here yesterday and its supposed to keep it up a few more days, but maybe I will get out with it anyway. If you have medium or large hands you will love the feel of the knife. Its pure utillitarian(good thing IMO). Also got my skookum(finally) as well as a MuskratMan bushcrafter so you can imagine how anxious I am to get out with these knives.

Love Muskrat mans blade shape but had to put a slight secondary bevel on it to keep it from chipping. No problems up near the point where the depth of the grind is less but near the ricasso where it gets deeper the edge was a little too thin.

Check out the Bushcraft Northwest knife also. The stabilized bamboo makes it handle heavy but as a result it has good control for detail work. It won out over some pretty solid competition for woods carry this past summer and fall.

The photo's compare a Koster, Bushcraft NW, and a Helle Harding to show the difference in blades and handles. The sheath is mine so don't blame the folks at Bushcraft NW for it's shortcomings!

By the way Helle is a lot of knife for the price.

Hollowdweller, always love seeing pics of your knives, as our taste seem to be the same. I got the MM bushcraft from a forum member and it already has a slight micro bevel. I also noticed some edge damage on the edge near the ricasso which had been sharpened out. No problem, I already owned one of his knives, a full tang puukko, I think the 1st one he had for sale. Its 3/32nd tappered to about 1/16 @ the edge. 1st time I used it the edge rolled bigtime. I was able to push it back over and chose to put a convex edge on it & never another problem. When Rod Garcia told me my skookum was on its way he warned me to stropp the A2 edge well to avoid it rolling. So for anyone reading this I dont think its a heat treating or steel problem. I actually do this with all my scandis now as this is my favorite grind and it Seems to solve the problem, but well see. Ramm9, I have a Helle fjellkniven that I love and the BCNW01 blade is sooo close to the same shape. I love it.

Hmmmm, I thought it was just me. I should have mentioned that myself. No problem though - easily fixed with a strop. I just strop at a little higher angle, work with it again, test the edge. After a couple tries I find the "sweet spot" where it's as acute as it can be and still stand up very well. I am using his non-traditional "high Scandi" on mine and figured I was just using too low an angle when sharpening.

Seeing that Shing again is going to push me into finishing mine.:o

I'm waiting for a Muskratman knife,he got in an accident unfortunately and that put paid to getting it this month.

I've great expectations of it (Small full tang Puukko)but it looks like April will be a realistic delivery time, but I think he makes a very decent looking knife&hopefully, a performing one too:D

I tend to agree with the OP's comment about most Bark Rivers, I like the Northstar I have and the Nebula but they are THICK and this can have disadvantages certainly.

Really, really gorgeous blade. That may actually be worth the pretty hefty price tag. The width of the handle looks good, how thick is it?

Edited to add: HD, the handles on that shing are friggin great looking, good work.

I haven't had much problem with the skookum chipping. One time I stropped it out with abrasive a little too thin but after that no.

The Skookum has a more shallow grind than the MM which I figure is why it's slightly better at not chipping. But Also wondering if the 01 is less prone to chipping than the L6?

Also if you sharpen by laying the bevel flat but toward the end stropping or sharpening at slightly higher level The whole bevel gets a little steeper and I think you eventually wind up where you don't have to put the secondary on there.

You're asking about the Bushcraft NW right?
1" width at center narrowing down to 1/2" at ricasso and butt ends...1-1/4 top to bottom of tang...mine has a 3-5/8" circumference, 4-1/4 length.

Yeah, thanks! Sounds pretty poifect! Uh oh... (my wallet won't be happy about such things...)

Spooky, I think you should go ahead and pull the trigger on this knife. It really feels perfect in the hand. The one problem I noticed is not with the knife but with the sheath. Mine is split at the top inside corner. The sheath is too narrow for the fatass handle. Would send it back but I cant imagine another sheath would be any different. I will ask Mike about this but it seems to me JRE should have made the sheath a little wider and put a rivet in the upper inside corner as a reinforcement. You guys who have this knife already have this problem?

Koyote is my new favorite maker of thin/tough blades,

…the things he does with band saw steel is amazing. :)

And BRT&T, …I have 4" blades from them as thin as .065”.
