Who makes the smoothest folder you've handled? >>

My Master HC-889,been useing one for 20 years and have a spare new one in the box,not made any more.
Aluminum handle,AUS8 blade,4 3/4" closed,teflon washers,allen wrench inc. in bow for adjustment,slick.:D

My BM 943. When one of the omega springs broke I made a new set out of a low E guitar string. I didn't put as much tension on them as BM's omega springs, so the Axis bar doesn't push against the tang nearly as hard--which results in less friction. I've had the folder for more than 4 years now, so the tang of the knife has been smoothed considerably by the literally millions of times it's been opened and closed.

If I open the knife and pull back the Axis bar, the blade doesn't drop and swing, as I have tightened the pivot screw just enough to prevent that from happening. It also has zero blade play--something which my 940, 710, and 556 don't quite have.

For me it has to be a William Henry t12. The thing is like plate glass and melted butter.

I have to agree to this for me also! There is no blade play at all and the action when opening is super smooth. It's very hard to describe, slick for sure!!

sorry for reviving such an old thread---I'm curious to see what the current opinions are. without a doubt, I'd have to go with Tom Mayo for this one.

Hi misterjuiceman -

I think it is a good reason to revive this 6 year old thread - it will be interesting to see the current opinions on this.

My submission is my A.G. Russel Acies - it is noticeably the smoothest opening folder I have. People who get to handle it normally mention the smooth action.

My Kershaw Volt and my Benchmade Griptilian are close seconds.

The Volt will probably get there after it has seen the cycles that my Acies has seen.

best regards -

Can you get any smoother than an AXIS LOCK???

My BM's are so smooth i can't imagine something being much more smoother than that....

It practically drops out when you pull the axis lock...

Had a few Benchmade AXIS locks, Couple of Grips and still have a 710D2. Not anywhere close to my CRKT Ken Onion Ripple w/ IKBS. That is the smoothest folder I have ever had or handled. I'd love to get the middle-techs or customs w/ IKBS.

production: spyderco bradely and manix 2.

mid tech: ug sebenza

custom: stan fujisaka. gone now, but smoothest folder i have ever owned or handled. like buttered glass.

Out of the knives I currently own my Kershaw JYD II SG2 is a notch above the rest in the area of smoothness. I has been customized by Brad Southard to make it IKBS and is the smoothest folder I have yet felt. Before I got that I owned a normal digicam Paramilitary that was insanely smooth however I sold that when I got the CPM-D2 para. My mini grip would be the next smoothest.

Of all my knives the smoothest by far are the Spyderco Gayle Bradely and believe it or not, my Boker Plus Eskellebur 1. Both are super silky . . .

Umnumzaan. :) From opening to locking it's smooth.

The Umnumzaan is pretty smooth, but it took a little while for it to happen.

Back from the dead and a new/old list of knives sounds great!

I figured it'd be interesting to see what everyone thinks now. Obenauf, Carson, Mayo and Cook seeemed to be popular before, I wonder who the big makers will be now.

My Benchmade 520 Presideo and Mini Grip are both really smooth to open and close. The Axis lock itself on the 520 runs smoother than the Grips though. I think my smoothest knife though is my Kershaw JYD. It feels like it has bearings but it's just the stock PB washers.

My Korth Amazonas with IKBS is my smoothest opening folder.
As far as production folders go Benchmade's Axis lock knives are hard to beat when it comes to smooth opening and closing imo. Spyderco hit a homerun with the GB for sure,
super nice knife for a buck 35.
