Other than Lorena Bobbit? Seriously, I have a fixed blade next to the bed that is most often used to cut the rubber band that the paper arrives in.
I have been snapped just once too often by that lil devil.
But....why have a knife near a bed? Probly be too groggy to do much more than cut up your jammies if you HAD to use it for defense.
Must be an insecurity thing.

Gun too. At least the gun is something that makes enough noise to wake you up after the first couple shots. :D

Seriously, how many knuts have a blade near the bed?

I have several knives in the drawer of the nightstand on my side of the bed. Mostly they are EDC's that are a part of my rotation. I open the drawer while I'm dressing and decide which knife or knives I'll carry that day. There is however a OVB/Fisk Bowie in that same drawer and it isn't an EDC for me. I don't have a really good reason for why it's there, I guess you could say it's a security blanket.

My 'go to' implement would be the Winchester 1300 12guage strapped to the bottom of my bed. I do keep a 9" bowie and a stock Hanwei katana by the bed too.
Just in case.
:)

A knife?? I usually have two or three, you know, in case I get attacked by ninja's or evil robots. They'll get ya!

I sleep with a Spyderco Toad in one pocket, and a Wegner Mouse in the other pocket.
Just cause I can. :)

Be careful to be wide awake when wanting to reach any of those, and don't get confused! :D

My myself have a hard time every morning to wake up. A knife in that circunstances could be VERY dangerous for everyone in the house :footinmou

BETO

====================
Sorry for my english :o

Everynight, I sleep with my Randall Model 15 Airman next to my bed--it served me thru 2 4-month deployments overseas In Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, Ed Fowler's Knife Talk and Knife Talk II books in case the tooth fairy decides to make my dream come true of my own Ed Fowler Excalibur and needs some pictures to look at!

Whenever I am in the mood to sleep with my knives, I make doubly sure that they are not naked. Absolutely no hanky panky! :D

My wife has the sharpest tongue I've ever seen, does sleeping with her count? :D

On a more serious note, I tend to keep my Sirupati strapped to my headboard right beside my Super Stinger Flashlight. It's less of a defense issue than a general emergency nice to know exactly where the knife is at kinda issue. (I live in the Suburbs)

It's a habit I've picked up since my dog attempted to hang himself a couple years ago. So far such a knife has only been used once or twice for little things like Stomping out into the yard at three in the morning cursing and muttering to cut down limbs setting off the motion detectors on the yard lights.

If you wanna talk pure SD, refer to the Remington 870 on one side of the bed, and the 1911 on the other. (It's a His and Hers thing) :D

Well, that may be true but I swear my Wife's tongue is serrated!!  :D ;)

If you're concerned about home defense.....then a knife isn't going to cut it (pun intended).

Only way to go is with a firearm. You don't want to get so close to a home intruder, that you have to use a knife on him.

You have to remember, chances are, the intruder will be wide awake (at the least) and you will be, most likely, woke out of a sound sleep.

It's NOT the time to enter into a knife fight!

Like the ole saying goes......."NEVER bring a knife to a gun fight".

Chances are.....you'll lose every time. :(

It's not like 24 hour callout or anything but being a member of the 'vollies' (the local volunter bush fire and rescue service) means at least 2-3 late night wake ups per year to attend car accidents, roofs being blown off and even the occasional fire. So I have Millie (Spyderco Military), Princeton tech headlight and riggers gloves next to my bed each night. It's got to be such a part of my pre-bed ritual that it is hard to sleep without them.

Right now I have about 5 knives on the nightstand; some are EDCs and others for defense. I also have an AR15, a Kimber and a Glock by the bed.
