Who SLEEPS with a knife?

I usualy keep one by my bed but not on me while i sleep. im afraid it would open and or fall out of its sheath while i sleep.ouch :)

Since I often like a midnight snack I have a Winchester Bird & Trout knife on my bedside table for cutting cheese, bananas, apples etc. I find it esp. good on apples - no way I'd use it for SD though.

I've mellowed out over the years. My knives are a couple feet away in a small dresser. I do keep a throwing knife on the top of the stack. I used to keep a knife in a sheath tacked under a shelf of my headboard. I used to practice sitting up in bed and throwing the knife into a target in front of my bedroom door. That's the type of thing that distresses wives though. My general practice was that when things went bump in the night I would quietly slip out my window, dagger in hand and come up behind the things in the dark. It was my place so I didn't need any light. On a couple occasions I scared the crap out of friends who thought they would play a joke on me. The nice thing about a knife is that you have to get close enough to identify friend or foe. A neighbor of ours killed her son getting a little quick on the trigger one night.

I have a couple of small dogs with sharp ears that insure nothing will surprise me in my bedroom. My 9mm is close enough if I need it. I also keep a heavy maglite handy.

Same here. The dogs are going to hear anything coming way before I do. Living in a rural area you don't get too many night visitors so if the dogs start barking you know something is happening. A 12 g shotgun lives in the house and I figure that will discourage any evildoers.

I do have several knives in the bedroom though but these are just part of my EDC rotation.

I keep a gun handy for self defense but I use to have an axe beside my bed. I useta live in an 30 year old mobile home that had crappy wireing, I'd be sitting at night with only my computer and my light on in the whole house and the bulb would get dark and then shine normal. I've seen a trailer go from small fire to ashes in 15mins flat I wasnt gonna get stuck in a burning house with no way out. The windows were those old crank type that only had about a 8" gap and my big butt wasnt gonna fit so I decided that if my path to the door was blocked I was gonna create a new door in the side of my room.

I keep a Spyderco Military next to my bed. It doesn't see much action, but I used it a couple of nights ago to cut off a loose thread from my pajamas! :)

My knives stay in my pockets or on my belt in their sheaths. But I do sleep on my revolver that sits snuggly under my pillows.

my SAK swisschamp sits in the space next to me with my mobile phone...lol when I empty my pockets its easier to leave it there so I dont forget it :).

if i had to choose a knife to sleep with under my pillow, it'd probably be a sheffield fairbaine sykes... nothin to think about when im half asleep, just grab and stab....

but ya, i slep next to a knife 3 nights ago... was foolin around with my s&w boot knife (had to have one... couldnt bring myself to buy the sheffeild, so i went with this...) in the dark lying on the couch, seeing how it would draw without the sheath being attached to anything.... next thing i know, the sheath goes flying across the room, and im left with the knife in hand thinking "damn.... i dont wanna get up and get that... i'll get it in the morning...". so i think "im not gonna put this on the ground without a sheath, i'll step on it when i wake up... i'll just set it next to me and go to sleep, deal with it in the morning."

and of course i roll over onto it, slicing open the back of my thumb in 3 places. great way to wake up ... i just put it under the couch like i should have done in the first place and went back to sleep, thumb over shirt so i wouldnt bloody up the couch... just goes to show that unsharp knives can still cut you - as long as your being very stupid with them :grumpy: ....

sucks too since i work with food all day... man i hate food prep gloves...

i often sleep in my clothes with all my gear on if that counts

Iv got a dadao (chinese war sword) and my katana in my bed room, there is usualy one or two other bits and bobs kicking about that might be handy if someone was stupid enough to storm my house, (official or otherwise ;) )

Working at 0600 means I'm usually up around 0415.

Slept in too many times and had 5min to get dressed and out the door, sleep fully clothed now. That means my fixed blade, multitool and flashlight are on my belt, right/front EDC rotation is either on me or in my work bag. Wallet and dropped carry(multi, small and pen) are in my work bag.

Neck carry doesn't leave, 24/7 carry of it.

Besides all the stuff next to the bed, under the bed etc etc you should invest in safety gates, fences, burglar bars, alarm systems, dogs and other deterrents in your "layers of defence". From what I have seen on tv, many American homes appear to be relatively easy to penetrate. In good 'ol SA the crime is so high that these "layers of defence" are practically standard options.

When I used to live in a free-standing house I kept a Glock under the bed, but now that I live in an apartment complex with 24 hour security and electric fencing, I am more relaxed. There are always several knives within reach.

And my last comment, after I wounded a guy a few years ago who was trying to steal a car and then tried to assualt me for stopping him, I went home and kept a 12ga pump IN the bed with me for about a week with the chamber unloaded until I calmed down.

Paranoid, me, naaahhhh

Just cause I can. :)

Hope you're not the kind that tosses and turns during the night! Something might snap open and they'll have to start calling you "Betty"! ;)

i sleep with a pair of shorts on and a cheap folder with pocket clip is always in there. the knife has even been through the wash a couple of times when i forget to take it out. no rust yet.

On my dresser next to me there is an Ivan Campos Vespa and at edge of the bed is a Cold Steel Shillelagh. I prefer blunt force over sharp force. It's more like swinging a bat, for me...since I really am not properly trained in any martial arts. Cordless and cellphones near the bed, too..

I think brining a knife to a gun fight is silly. But, what about having something, anything potentially useful, when the fight comes to you?

If you have the habit of sleeping with your knives, better make you are not a sleep walker. Now that would be eerie!!
