While I almost never actually "carry" a knife any more, being pretty much used to staying in my home forever (I don't think I have started my car in over 3 weeks), I do still have a handful of Case knives out on my desk, along with an Alox Victorinox Cadet (whose bottle opener gets plenty of work). These are the three that are out. Interestingly enough they were among my most often carried knives over the past few years when I did get out: Full sized Trapper, Pocket Worn Old Red Bone: 6318 Medium Stockman, Pocket Worn Harvest Orange Bone: 6347 Stockman, Amber Jigged Bone SS: If I think about it - those three, plus the Alox Cadet, plus a Case Peanut, would probably serve all of my pocket knife needs for the rest of my life. The other two mentioned (yes, I know one is not a Case). These were my "dyamic duo" for at least a couple of years, when I still went to work in an office, and could get away with carrying a pocket knife at work.
@jc57 And very well sorted out choices too John. The 634/ Amber Bone Stockman has been seeing a lot of use with me lately. It was formerly my 'car knife' but it's very handy around the home & garden. Well done you for not starting the car for 3 weeks, more people did that and walked, the world would show rapid improvements
I’m not getting out much either. Even though I enjoy my Bose knives, I tend to be pretty mundane in what I use the most. A Case Slimline Trapper in Delrin and a really nice Case CV Swayback in jigged chestnut bone are still my two favorite Case patterns. I recall those years when I only owned a few knives that I used. It was a much simpler time for sure
I enjoy looking at this thread. I’m not good with pics; but I have been carrying a delrin handled 61048 slimline trapper in one pocket, and a vintage 1970s 620091/2 Barlow in the other. I like both, they are handy and carry easy.
This CV Case is in my daily rotation. I love the patina it has and just feels right in my hand. To me it looks like a Zulu type pattern but in a lockback. It would be perfect if Case would make this without the lockback and it had a halfstop.
@Ron Sabbagh. Re seahorse I have one in valley jigged bone. It's alright, but I don't like it as much as I thought I would, although other people love it. I'm not the best when it comes to sharpening but I had a heck of a time trying to get the main blade sharp. It wasn't sharp when it came so I gave it about 200 strokes on the sharpmaker and it still doesn't cut as good as my pocket carver. That may have to do with my sharpening skills or the blade geometry ??? The secondaries were very sharp and slicey, but so thin they feel delicate to me. On the plus side I find it very comfortable in hand and in pocket and very good looking. I think it's a nice edc.
your knife appears to be a Case Tribal Lock, designed by Tony Bose. In 2010 there was a Case Bose Collaboration - the Tribal Spear - which is a slipjoint (non lockback) with halfstop. It is all stainless (no CV option)
Definitely an interesting and attractive pattern. Here's mine in smooth chestnut bone. Unfortunately I'm not very good at whittling, but I have been able to get mine "scary sharp." (At least by my standards.) The trick I learned from a whittling thread was to reprofile the blade to a lower angle and strop frequently during use.
You have a beautiful example there, IMHO. I like both Tribal collabs, would love Case to do a current run of Spears.
